Whenever I see people say they want a sequel to Encanto I desperately hope they don't mean a follow up movie because Disney is usually hit-or-miss with them and I think we know if there was a sequel, it would involve someone either leaving the family or trying to figure out the magic. People just want more content with the Madrigals which is mainly regulated to shorts and possibly a tv series. But even then I'm so iffy if they get a tv series because the characterizations could be messed up or if it's a serialized show the story might suffer like it did in TTS. I am so not confident in Disney to do right by us.

I'm so torn when it comes to future Encanto content... because technically I want more, but I have long stopped trusting Disney in knowing how to handle their own franchises.

Encanto getting a sequel? Frozen 2 proves they don't know how to handle that. Encanto getting a series? Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure proves they dont know how to handle that. I'm just hoping that F2 and RTA gave Disney the wake up call they needed and to do better for Encanto.

And I swear I will sue Disney myself if they dare to force the "and thus the family moved apart" bullshit on this franchise where Family is LITERALLY the core (even more than any past Disney movie, the reason the plot and pacing "felt off" is because the family IS the plot and it bothers me when people don't get that...)

Also general side note to anyone reading this: It’s no use arguing to me about F2 and RTA, because it’s been years and I’ve already made up my mind about these “sequels“.

Tangled really had episodes focused on the animal sidekicks and then none for their main black character

no because it's a disney princess show aimed at young girls and the lack of healthy and present female relationships is pathetic.

the series revolve around rapunzel and cassandra's friendship literally everything happens because of their relationship but it's an unhealthy one because it was mostly written by old men who dont understand the nuance of relationships between young women.

and rapunzel doesn't have a female friend besides cassandra. are rapunzel and adira friends? is faith her friend? catalina and kiera are the only female friends that are present in her life and they're preteen girls. cassandra also doesn't have other female friends. she hates adira's guts. the only prominent woman in cassandra's life besides gothel and rapunzel is zhan tiri.

there's no maternal relationships either because the showrunner is a father and wanted to portray paternal relationships. so we got 4 (5, if you count lance) dads who influenced the plot and one mother who exists in the background, two dead mothers and the fucking movie villain. they decided to bring the movie villain and made her the central point of season 3 why the fuck not! <3 it makes sense! the best plot twist of the plot twists. a woman who decays in 0.00008 seconds if she doesn't sing to a flower carried a child. or idk she was sculpted from clay by her mother a la wonder woman.

tell a father's story too but it shouldn't be too hard to replace edmund with the dark queen. or quirin with his wife. but nooo the only relevant maternal relationship must be an extremely toxic one to both main characters.

and like... the fathers and their motives boil down the same thing. we don't get variety. and they don't conclude in a satisfying way. rapunzel's relationship with frederic is essentially same with eugene and edmund's. varian and quirin also have a similar one. look my dear child i'm one traumatized man i love you and i'm worried about your wellbeing so i'll lie to you/lock you up/send you away/keep secrets and it will ruin so many things and fuck you up but it's okay because i'm your father and you'll forgive me in ten seconds. cassandra and the captain have a unique relationship, but then again it's the least relevant one.

anyways tangled the series desperately needed more female writers. because it's so obvious that the show was written by a male perpective. we needed more women. especially younger women and/or mothers.

What are some things you think they wrote ooc for her?

I think that after her big revelation with who Gothel was, she would be less willing to keep people in her her life who weren’t nice to her. But the writing wanted to force the friends narrative, so despite the fact that their friendship was never that great to start with (from an outsider’s POV), she literally let Cassandra attempt to kill her and her loved ones multiple times and still continued to think she was worth saving.

Whatever happened to the young lady who looked at a woman she had eighteen years of history with and said, “You kidnapped me, have been using and manipulating me my whole life, and sent the man I love to the gallows, and I am done with you”? Why was someone she’d only known two years, who had hurt her at the beginning of their relationship, who was snarky and mean to not only her, but the man she loves, who felt like Rapunzel wasn’t understanding and kind enough to her, betrayed her and tried to kill everyone she knows (some of them multiple times), who took over her kingdom and was perfectly willing to tear the magic out of her chest and keep it for herself given more leeway and forgiveness?

Personally, I feel that after the trauma she suffered at Gothel’s hands, she would not so willingly put herself through all of that. She would not have insisted that Cassandra was worth saving. That’s the biggest one. (On a similar note, I don’t think she’d have forgiven Frederic so quickly for locking her up in her room and invading her privacy, nor do I think she would have necessarily advised Eugene to just give Edmund a chance instead of validating what was upsetting him so much.)

On that note, I feel like Rapunzel would have been more attentive to others’ needs. After all, she was raised to be attentive to Gothel’s every mood, so she’d know when it was safe to talk to her about things, and when she just needed to be a quiet, good girl and stay out of her way. There are times when I absolutely do not think she would have reacted to something Eugene was going through the way they wrote her reacting to them (like brushing off his concerns about someone stealing his former identity). I understand her being self-centered in the respect of wanting to try things and hoping others will let her have her way because they’ve experienced the world and she hasn’t so she’s got a backlog of it being her turn, but when it comes to moods and sensitivity I don’t think she’d ignore what people really want. She’s much more likely to cater to people’s needs than focus on her own.

y’all notice how whenever Cass wanted Rapunzel to do something, she told her what to do in a condescending and bitter tone, while whenever Eugene wanted Rapunzel to do something, he suggested what she should do in a gentle and undemanding tone?

What exactly happened today with Chris Sonnenburg? I’m really confused, could you explain please?

Sure! Chris Sonnenburg has been pretty rude to Varian fans for a while. Saying they are enjoying the show wrong, that they aren’t focusing on the right things, etc. this is just one of many things.

As a fellow content creator, I know it can be upsetting when fans don’t exactly see your work the way you’d like (For example, fans preferring another character over you fav), but that’s part of being a creator! You can’t control what people like about your work, it’s something that happens naturally, and being mean spirited about it it’s very unprofessional, specially considering that Chris is an adult (And not a young one) while most Varian fans are kids. While working on the show, he was also representing Disney, and going on to people’s posts without being even mentioned to say things like “You’re watching it wrong” it’s just,,, wrong.

Not only that, but he hasn’t been able to take criticism well. Some days ago a few fans were discussing about how the fortune teller in the show feeds into Jewish and Romani stereotypes. They were acknowledging that it was a social issue and most likely not done to be harmful on purpose, and they weren’t referring to anyone individually on the crew. As content creators we all make mistakes, and we have to acknowledge them, learn from them to improve. Instead of calmly receiving the criticism or ignoring it (Hey, you can just ignore the post and no one will know!) he left a very passive-aggressive reply saying “And with this post, I say thank you for your amazing support, and log off of Tumblr!” All in all, he’s just very unprofessional.

Iwant it to be known that the people aren’t mad at the crew as a whole! We love all the artists, writers and animators behind this show, they’re all talented, professional, and amazing people! Chris is the only one ruffling the fandom’s feathers.

TL;DR He’s rude to the fans who don’t share his views on the show and can’t take criticism well (But can’t ignore it either).

Everytime I'm scrolling through Ao3 and see a Cassunzel fanfic I get really sad because all I can think about is how devastated Eugene would be if Rapunzel left him. Especially if she left him for Cass, someone Eugene (in season 1) already doesn't like. It just doesn't set right in my soul.

i'm just gonna say it

i'm a little over this hostility towards eugene based on a three second clip. let eugene stans have this 22 minute episode. let us be excited he looks hella good in a captains uniform and has some rank. it's attractive. it's nice. let us have some plot based on him and not all this drama and angst and zhan tiri nonsense. please stop this freaking hostility. the series is over in two freaking weeks. it's almost gone. we're never going to get this again. let people be excited over things if they want, and respect people who are upset. but stop being so awful to people who don't feel the same way as you. please. i'm tired.
