Hi Orrin! I'm currently recovering from surgery so I'm gonna have a lot of free time on my hands.
I'm looking to start a new show from my watch list and the two I really wanna see are Amphibia and the Owl House. I know you're a huge fan of both, so I was wondering if you had a recommendation as to which I should watch first?
Well, lucky for you, The Owl House just finished one hiatus, aired the premier of "S3" (I put S3 in air quotes because it's not really a "season" so to speak - thanks Disney), and then we're back on a hiatus. So, you've got plenty of time to watch both The Owl House to catch up and Amphibia.
I, personally, would watch The Owl House first. I personally enjoy it more, though I do love Amphibia. Amphibia is a lot less painful than The Owl House, and I really didn't like the finale, but it's a good show overall, and it has a pretty decent fanbase.
The Owl House is a considerably darker show (as dark as a Disney "kids" cartoon can be), and has MUCH more LGBTQ+ and disabled representation:
2 canon bi characters, 1 possibly bi character, 1 possibly pan character, 2 canon non-binary characters, 2 canon lesbian characters, 1 canon sapphic character (though not confirmed to be lesbian or bi), 1 canon GNC character, 1 canon aroace character, and lots of autism and ADHD-coded characters, PTSD, depression, anxiety, paranoia, physical disabilities, etc.
Amphibia also has some of those things, but not to the extent of The Owl House. And The Owl House is more enjoyable for me because it's got more depth to it, lots of character development and growth, which makes character analysis and theories more enjoyable.
But that's just my opinion. The Owl House I watch with a critical eye, Amphibia I watch to just have fun.
