hey hey we're back for Tuesday Again No Problem. yes, it's wednesday again. this time it's because I've only just gotten back into cell service territory! I was at the dunes with my best girl (pictured) and my in-laws (elsewhere):
She hates the water but she looooves frolicking in the sand 🥹 (also how wild is that sand mountain in the background??)
Reading: Just finished Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke. Batshit crazy.
Listening: the disco snails song is on loop in my head, send help.
Watching: Andor, which is just as good the third time
Making: a crochet shirt with bamboo yarn that now smells like campfire smoke. no regrets
Plotting: when I can go stand-up paddleboarding again
Enjoying: vacation time + being home again + air conditioning
Struggling with: going back to work tomorrow >:(
Looking forward to: honestly idk because I'm dreading my next trip (flying to see family). making more stuff, ig
The little things: sea lions going RRRUUUUUUUUUUURR and molasses-flavored salt water taffy, my beloved
I won't spoil anything for Yesteryear, but it wasn't what I expected. I heard "tradwife is sent back in time to the real era she's cosplaying" and I thought oh, we're going to get a rather smug view of her realizing with horror that she's been duped by the American Dream and her domineering patriarch of a husband. I was wrong. I didn't feel completely satisfied with the ending, but I did read it in 48 hours, so, clearly something was working for me.
My spouse and I are rewatching Andor since our roommate hasn't seen it and god damn, the narrative design and acting and costuming and scoring. I love this fucking show and it's a crime that more people haven't seen it. We're watching the end of the Narkina-5 arc tonight and I'm going to be very normal about my boy Kino Loy.
Have some sea lions from the US's largest sea cave!
I tried to upload a video so you could hear them, but apparently tumblr wasn't having any of that. But look at all those chickens!!
I'm on time for tuesdayposting! Which is quite the feat considering I woke up thinking it was Saturday. RIP me.
Listening: Towards the Sun by Birdtalker
Reading (book): Just finished The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher
Reading (other): Pride & Prejudice commentary by Trung Le Nguyen
Making: I am attempting to learn Tunisian crochet and knitting at the same time, so... wish me luck. But I just finished crocheting this dino plushie!
Plotting: what I'm going to do with my new yarn
Enjoying: I'll be real with you chat I'm having a hard time answering this one this week
Struggling with: general overwhelm with work and house and future travels
Looking forward to: pakïge
The little things: a scraggly little coneflower bloomed in my garden!
listening
honestly it's a good bet I'm listening to Birdtalker's entire discography at any given time. Season of Charade and Better Days are also up there right now.
I'm also listening to the audiobook of Hemlock & Silver by T. Kingfisher (it took me an embarrassingly long time to remember it was a retelling of Snow White), which brings me to another book of hers I just finished...
reading (book)
Set (somewhat) in the fictional "Glory to God Museum of Natural Wonders, Curiosities, and Taxidermy" in Hog Chapel, North Carolina. Fun and evocative portal/cosmic horror!

reading (other)
Trung Le Nguyen livetweeted their readthrough of Pride & Prejudice on Bluesky, collected here in a google doc for easier reading. I'm cackling aloud at such gems as:

making
I made this for my friend but they have two kids and I don't want to make a second one and also are "safety eyes" really considered safe for young children? (no.) So now idk if this fellow is going to stay with me for a few years until I make another one and my friend's kids are older? In any case, it's super cute. The little pink dots in the yarn are roses!

plotting
I signed up for a monthly yarn club where I'll get a different green yarn each month. I was picturing earth tones and thinking about making a hexagon blanket with all the different green shades but July's yarn is. so neon.
They dye this themselves and it's wonderful, but also, I'm not a neon person and I have no idea what I'm going to make with it yet.

the rest
I'm overwhelmed AF. Layoffs at work, a chaotic house with too many people in it (luckily all people I love, but I Need More Space), imminent travel that I'm trying to make the most of but I know it'll be stressful, spending a little too frivolously #mydopamine, summer going so fast, schedule too full, etc. It doesn't help that I'm exhausted again; my iron/ferritin numbers are back in the anemic zone (<50). Hopefully my next infusion will fix me?
anyway, my dahlias are too baby but enjoy my neighbor's:
