Tapadas limeñas, by 19th century german itinerant artist Johann Morizt Rugendas. The tapadas were peruvian women who wore black veils to conceal their identities. That enabled them to leave their homes without the company of a chaperone or a husband. Poems were written about their identities and their motives.
