This is Taphrina, one of my oldest OCs so far! She’s the 14-year-old archer of the New Diamondbreakers, and one of its most mischievous members at that. Despite how long shes been around, this is my first time finally making a ref sheet for her LOL.
These strange growths on alder cones are caused by a fungus - Taphrina alni - but they are actually galls. Like the structures produced by gall-wasps, the natural growth of the plant is distorted by the fungus to produce distinctive structures for its benefit.
