The tiny gall wasp/gallstekel Andricus quercusramuli has a clever trick up its (nonexistent) sleeve. It lays its eggs in young oak buds, and when the larvae hatch, they send out signals that make the tree grow a cozy little home around them—a fluffy, white cottonwool gall. Inside these soft-looking puffs, each larva gets its own snug chamber with food and shelter included. Some galls can even house a whole wasp nursery of up to 20 little ones. It’s all part of the wasp’s rather complicated life cycle, with different generations creating different types of galls. These galls typically do no lasting harm to the oak. One thing’s for sure: when you live next to a forest, there’s always a trillion things going on. It will never cease to amaze me. Värmland, Sweden (May 25, 2025).

Sangk Gallen: Come here, it's like Good.?
Sankalen': Why Not Do It?
Stktgalen: Gall me up babey!
McGalle n: Me loves this one
@clearlyafandomblog submitted: Found these stunning wasp galls on a hike the other day! The wool sower gall was especially exciting, I'd never seen one before! The sapling had 3-4 other galls on it, I figured chances were good it was also a gall and a quick google confirmed as much. I've loved galls since childhood - before I knew they were wasp nurseries - and I love them even more now!
Fun finds! Galls are all over the place if you know what you're looking for.

day 9...
withdrawal symptoms
the nag of pain in the left lower back, a place for your head to rest after collapse. the glassy haze of eyes as sunlight punishes for the gall of your stupid yearning. dry mouthed mornings and how quietly a single level house holds scattered jars of need. the nascent night sweats over vivid dreamscapes, lingered lilts escaped through keyholes, burrowed into another bedframe. these shivers will subside, will release your name like ashes into a pond's thick algae.
