Sonny Jones - Follow You, Follow Me feat Tara Chase

Why did so many turn-of-the-millennium music videos feature lifts or liftlike rooms? I'm thinking 'Keep On Movin'', 'Ghetto Superstar', 'Men In Black', 'Virtual Insanity' - I swear this was a thing, just like dystopian chase scenes with men in wraparound sunglasses was for dance music.

I also like this YouTube clip for its glimpse into music TV around that time and the songs that, like this, didn't really last in the memory. (It got to number 42).

As it turns out it's an interesting case of 'impressionable young people massively screwed by the music industry'. WARNING: There's some rockist nonsense amid 'The story of Sonny Jones':

Sonny Jones was a music project pseudonym of a young fresh looking artist from Berlin Germany, who has used this name for his work as a  Blues, Jazz/Funk & Soulsinger and Songwriter in tribute to the film "Tapdance" stating an old tapdance school named "Sonny's Side of the Street" and the family  name of the legendary Jazz musician and composer "Quincy Jones".

After his first Hit in the UK 'Follow You Follow Me', a cover version of the Genesis classic, rising from the bottom straight up to No. 3 in the MTV Box charts right before Madonna and others in the year 2000, he still felt very unpleased with the forced change of his music style by the record companies central office in Germany, and he left the project right after its amazing start, to work more as a composer and songwriter now for others in the background of the music industry.

What many fans and detractors of his Pop-Hit version of the Genesis song didn't know: he actually was a completely different and more sophisticated and more advanced music artist before and his own first original production of that Cover version was more Rythm 'n Blues and Old School Hip Hop orientated, and the only reason why female award winning rap aritst Tara Chase and Phil Collins jumped in the boat of this idea at the first place, before the German central office of the record company has changed the whole style of the song to be more compatible to a younger German audience... That's why he was the music opener with a live performance for the rebirth of UK's biggest TV show "The Lottery Show" with UK's biggest audience rating in the history of the Lottery Show ever.

He was unable to feel happy about it all because it wasn't his taste of music, he had to present. He felt misunderstood, got sick and has canceled the next Maxi CD release of the song 'Rain in paradise', an own written song about a failed relationship to annouce the upcoming album release. A song which merely fit to the situation with the record company ironically. To get away from it all, he has used another pseudonym for his work as a music producer after this time from now on and gave this song to another artist to perform it for him. 2002: The music producer Gilmano was born.

In the interview with us he stated by himself: 'The story of Sonny Jones can be count as one of many typical examples of how record companies have destroyed the music landscape and life of actually authentic artists consequently by their producer driven teen oriented music marketing. That's why Teen pop music was criticized very badly in all of its decades and especally in the new century and became the paragon of music industry as a contrapositive opposite to the meaning of a many-faceted music landscape full of interesting artists. It often was count as one of the actually main reasons for the big going down of record companies and its power in the new internet century, where artists can show their different facets now much better and without being dominated by record comany strategies, far away from them in the web, reaching a bigger audience.'

Personally I quite like it.
