@taraknowless: unpopular opinion but I do think he would've left either way/ something would've needed to happen, because he was seriously hurt by her not trusting him again and again and I do believe that he wouldn't have continued like that idk I do think he would've asked for a break until she sorted out what she really wants. (and yes, the 3x13 cliffhanger overall was *chef's kiss*)
It's frustrating that we don't know exactely when Devon approached James. When I'm rewatching, I'm constantly trying to find something that would tell us for sure but I don’t think there is.
When he meets with Devon in 3x13, he says he told Teresa that leaving was his decision, that he knows one can’t run from the CIA. What makes me think James was lying in 3x12 about wanting to leave is that James tells Devon in 3x13 that he figured out about him and the CIA after the hit on El Santo, so in 3x11. For that reason, I think he was lying about wanting to leave in early 3x12, because if he knew about Devon and his ties with the CIA already and hadn’t received Devon’s call yet, I don’t think he would have left Teresa, even if he was hurt and pissed at her.
I choose to believe that James receives Devon’s call in early 3x12, and that he uses Teresa’s trust issues to cover up why he’s really about to leave. Also, when Teresa offers him to run Phoenix, he does want to know whether it’s just a business offer but then she doesn’t give him a clear answer and he says he needs time “to think about it”. If he didn’t receive Devon’s call yet, it can say that in his mind he has to sort out what he wants from their relationship: can he stay in business with her even if their romantic relationship doesn’t work out? But if he’s received Devon’s call already, maybe there is more on his mind to consider.
What is sure is that James does call for a break in 3x11 and that he felt hurt, rightfully. And I agree with you that something would’ve needed to happen, they would have needed a deep and intimate conversation for their trust in each other to be restored but I choose to stick thinking that he wasn’t seeing leaving as a solution to their problems.
I hope that s5 can clear that up for us tho!
@taraknowless replied to your post “About Booker’s betrayal: What do you expect from a guy, who is...”
What I don’t understand is why the others were even needed like ok, give yourself up for testing I guess but why betray the others? There’s really no reason that Merrick “needs” all of them besides him not wanting his competition to get their fingers on them. But yeah, overall he was too blinded by the possibility of sweet, sweet death and also way too depressed to think about the others
Exactly. In research you want as many test subjects as possible and you want to make sure that no one else can get there before you. I’m also pretty sure that Merrick wants to make sure that it never comes out just how he acquires his possible medicine. If he had the ultimate cure he’d just claim it was a previously unknown substance from a tropical plant that was slightly modified. After all he wants to sell it on the market.
Human experiments is nothing that you want to present to investors or the public. :/

we all would EASILY make better criminals. like you said, most of it is common sense and the girls are getting to a point where I don't think I've ever seen characters act more stupid and dumb
Beth having JUST gotten her fingerprints on something and thus having landed them in this mess to begin with and Ruby then placing her whole-ass BARE hand on that doorknob made me want to SCREAM

lmao true why is he getting so much more screentime than Rio?!
I honestly thought we’d get more Rio this season, but they seem to just be putting Mick in his place.
