17 year old Tarasha Benjamin was last seen in Selma, Alabama on June 26th, 2010. That morning, Tarasha left her home around 10am after telling her mother that she was going to a local flea market. On the way there, Tarasha stopped at a yard sale where she allowed a relative to borrow her phone. It is believed that Tarasha did arrive at the flea market that day, as several vendors claim to have seen her. However, Tarasha never returned home that evening and has not been seen or heard from since.
Later, the car that Tarasha had been driving was found abandoned on the Cecil Jackson Bypass, one mile from the flea market. The car was facing the opposite direction, two windows were broken, and the driver’s door handle was broken. Since then, there has been no trace of Tarasha and her whereabouts are still unknown. About a year into the investigation, the Selma police department said that they looked into sex offenders in the area/surrounding areas, but ultimately no link to Tarasha was found.
Other than that, there has been very little media coverage on her case. Early on, Tarasha’s family said that the police have not been informing them about the details of the investigation, and they have since started their own. A documentary titled Where is Tarasha Benjamin? is being made by Selma locals that will hopefully provide more insight into the investigation. The documentary has apparently been in the works for years (the IMDB page actually says it already came out in 2014), but according to the documentary’s official Facebook page, it will finally be released on September 17th, 2018. There are numerous posts on the documentary’s Facebook page that allege that Tarasha was abducted. In fact, there is a post that directly names her abductor—who happens to be a Selma police officer. None of the information in these posts has been confirmed or reported about in the media, but hopefully more information will come to light in the documentary.
In the meantime, Tarasha remains missing. Tarasha’s family strongly believes that someone in law enforcement knows something, and they desperately need Tarasha’s case to be looked at with fresh eyes!
