Complete Trust

It's been 84 years since I posted new art. This is an old wip that I finally had the energy to finish.

Some thoughts I had going into this piece was that Tarlyn trusts Lachrymose so openly that he would allow Lachrymose to support him by nothing other than his neck. He is willing to take whatever Lachrymose gives him, even if it risks harming him.

Meanwhile, Lachrymose has such complete faith in his beliefs that he is often blind to Tarlyn's potential for being harmed, hence his closed eyes. Eilistraee would never let him down, would never allow him to hurt Tarlyn. Nevermind the fact that he already has his hands around his neck.

Idk, I know when I started this piece I had more thoughts about it in a similar vein as above, but it's been so long that this is the long and the short of it.

Quickly finishes this so it gets out of my wip. I was trying something different. I'm not sure if I like the result.

Dancing in the Moonlight

It's finally done. My boys.... ref and fun things I like below the cut

I used this ref from Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake. Featuring a rare pas de deux between two men.

This was a bit of a struggle for me with Tarlyn and Lachrymose as they have a rather significant height difference, and while men CAN go on pointe, unfortunately ballet has very strict gender roles so it's rare that they do. But going on Pointe also changes the leg shapes and angles, so it was a bit of a hassle before I just rotated the angle of the sketch to give me something more interesting and dynamic without worrying about what their feet were doing.

The fun stuff was, I think I'm finally starting to get the hang of coloring. At least a little. Tarlyn's back is just chefs kiss. Also heehee Lachrymose has dark lashes bc he's only half drow, while Tarlyn gets white lashes bc he's full drow.

I doubt this will be the last time I draw them dancing. Drawing ballet in general is a lot of fun to me. And I love my boys soooo much 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Here's Elendar's

Elendar's handwriting is rounded, he writes much to quickly and with a light hand that its soft. In the English alphabet it would be writing like print and cursive at the same time.

Haldiira's

Haldiira writes much more angular. She pressed down hard with her pen and does quick strokes.

Myrae's

Myrae has extremely round handwriting. She's doing hearts above her i's. That being said, she also loves to write in High Drow because it makes her feel like she's more important, especially when giving notes to people she believes are beneath her.

Tarlyn's

Tarlyn writes commonly more in High Drow than Angled. More because Dir'zafae forced it on him. Otherwise he writes *very* angular.

And none for Lachrymose because he doesn't know drow. (❁´◡`❁)

re: oc questions: what’s your favourite part of their design and/or backstory?

For Elendar I love his hair and eyes!! He's my specialist little boy. And my favorite part of his backstory is him becoming Keptolo's chosen and feeling the fallout of being abandoned by everyone he knew and trusted, while betraying the one person who actually cared about him in return. 🙂‍↕️

For Haldiira I like her hair style and the spider web details on the shoulders of her shirt. And for her backstory, I like that she challenged Myrae's abilities and managing to out wit her by never giving Myrae her real name, while also falling right into Myrae's hands in almost every other instance.

Lachrymose I love his skin tone. It's just a pretty shade of purple and his eyes being baby pink are so cute. And from his backstory.... Well uh. Lachrymose got saddled with my own history so it's weird to think about liking parts of myself I consider negative. Unfortunately I have nothing. 😔

Tarlyn, I like his hairstyle and his eyes. 🙂‍↕️ For his backstory I love his connection with his mistress, Dir'zafae, and how much of his affection for her could be transferred to Lachrymose in a slightly different flavor. Such as, her refusing to let him see her without an ornate hairstyle, and how intimate between them that would have been. And with Lachrymose, he sees him with his hair down all the time. Plus Lachrymose doesnt tie up his hair more than a ponytail most days. So during the ritual when he sees Lachrymose with his hair tied up so tight and neat, Tarlyn felt a burning need to take it down and make it loose. It was too formal. His neck was too exposed it made him want to kiss it.

Unfortunately the jury is out entirely on Myrae as I reworkshop her to fit updates.... I really need to sit down and work on her. 😔

I don't think Lachrymose knows that Tarlyn's oath is to him and not Eilistraee. I think Tarlyn repeats his oath when they're having sex, and Lachrymose thinks it's hot that he's so devoted but the man is dumb and isn't equating the devotion to him. Just that Tarlyn is so in the moment and sex is such a normal thing for Eilistraeans to have in her worship, that it doesn't click for him.

I think that it does come out one day, maybe when they're fighting Keptolo like I have planned, that Tarlyn does something that would seemingly break his oath. Harming another drow or something. And I think Keptolo would be aware enough of what paladins have to offer, and is familiar with Eilistraee's dogma enough to taunt Tarlyn that he lost his oath by making that move.

And Tarlyn just hits back that his oath is intact, and his faith is unshaken, bc his loyalty isn't to Eilistraee, it's to Lachrymose.

And I think Lachrymose is just sort of dumbfounded in that moment, because "what do you MEAN this whole time you were sworn to me?!"

Elendar remembers his childhood being rather boring. Children were seen and not heard (as true for most drow boys). Things only got interesting when he realized that people didn't actually pay attention to his comings and goings, nor how obviously he was hidden. He was a child. He knew nothing. But he sure could listen and repeat what was said. That's when things started getting interesting.

This is fairly accurate to what happened to him as a child. The only thing he doesn't like to remember is the reason why his Matron 'Mother' gave him her favor when he was exceptionally young... He doesn't like remembering how much his 'siblings' then turned on him and hated him for being such a nosey snitch. (though he maintains that everyone should have been better at keeping their secrets, if they didn't want to get caught by their Mother. )

11. What does your OC carry around in their pockets? What about their bag?

Haldiira tends to carry around practical items. Knives, extra crossbow bolts, Poison. etc. She doesn't tend to keep much on her person. She doesn't really own a whole lot. I think she does have some token of thanks from Jarlaxle that she keeps on her, but as to what that is... at the moment I'm unsure.

17. What are some of your OC's coping mechanisms during stressful or overwhelming periods in their life?

Toxic Positivity.

Lachrymose will sit with himself and talk himself in circles until he believes that these things happen for good reason.

His mother, Fel'narra, denying him drow culture beyond a strong hand? Obviously, she's trying to protect him from Lolth and the terrible things that have happened. One day when he's older, she'll teach him more about Underdark drow culture.

His father, Erevan, constantly leaving their family that he claims to care about? Well they do need to put food on the table. Lachrymose will get a job too once he's old enough. His dad just wants to make sure that he's cared for.

Phyranna not standing up more for Lachrymose as a Silverhair Knight, and being able to perform the Consume Sin Ritual? Obviously, she's just trying to make their fellow drow from the Underdark more comfortable in these scary times. Lachrymose is taller than most of them, and they're used to thigns being done a certain way. You can't rush progress, they'll see one day that he's perfectly safe to be around.

26. How quickly does your OC reach their breaking point? What are they like when this point has been reached?"

Tarlyn is surprisingly patient. It was ingrained in him from when he was young, but especially under Dir'zafae, that he needs to sit and wait and be patient. The only time he loses it is if something terrible happens to Lachrymose, or there's a threat to him. Then he stops at nothing until the threat is eliminated and Lachrymose is okay.

28. What does your OC think others are saying about them behind their back? Is any of this true?

"Myrae is talented and exceptional at her job. I'll make her my chosen." - Vhaeraun (probably)

She is delusional.
