𓀰 learning to ask the right questions to the tarot 𓀰
one thing i learned after years of reading tarot is that the cards are actually very honest… but they’re also very literal. if you ask a vague question, you usually get a vague answer. sometimes it even feels like the cards go silent. for a long time i thought tarot just “wasn’t working” for me on certain questions. but eventually i realized the problem wasn’t the deck. it was the way i was asking.
tarot responds to clarity. the more intentional the question is, the deeper the reading becomes.
instead of asking things like “will this happen?” or “will they come back?”, i started asking questions that open a dialogue with the cards. questions that explore the hidden dynamics of a situation, the things i’m not seeing, or the lesson behind an experience.
and the difference was honestly huge. readings became clearer, more specific, and way more meaningful.
that’s why i created this little guide about asking better questions to tarot. it’s basically a collection of question frameworks and examples i’ve used over the years that help the cards actually give useful insight instead of confusing answers.
if you’ve ever felt like tarot gives blurry answers, it’s probably not the cards. it’s the question.
🌱 you can check the tarot question guide here 🌱
i also made a bundle on etsy where the question guide and my tarot reading guide come together, because honestly the way you ask and the way you interpret the cards work hand in hand. if you want to explore both together you can find the
Pile One: Strength reversed, The Chariot reversed, 8 of Wands, 10 of Pentacles, The Wheel of Fortune reversed
When I step into your room, the first thing I notice is the stillness underneath the movement.
There are signs that things should be flowing. Stuff like messages coming in, things changing, energy trying to move… but somehow it feels like everything is hitting invisible walls. That’s the 8 of Wands sitting in here, like open windows with wind trying to rush through… but heavy curtains blocking it just enough to slow everything down!
Because underneath that, it gets deeper with Strength reversed and The Chariot reversed together make this space feel like someone who is tired of holding it all together. Not in a big, noticeable way but more like quiet exhaustion. Like you’ve been trying to control things, manage things, and keep yourself steady…but the room shows where that control is slipping.
There’s a chair in here, one you sit in often, and it’s positioned like you’re trying to stay composed, but if someone looked close enough, they’d see how tense your shoulders really are.
This is a room where effort has been constant but direction has been unclear.
Then we get to the part that makes this room feel so heavy - The 10 of Pentacles.
This isn’t just your energy. It’s everything tied to you. Expectations, stability, family, legacy, long-term security, and what things are “supposed to look like.” The room itself feels structured, maybe even beautiful in places. There are solid pieces here. There’s furniture that lasts and things that represent permanence.
But here’s the thing…I know, I know. 😮💨
With the Wheel of Fortune reversed, it feels like time has slowed down in here. Like something that should be progressing and moving forward isn’t. Like you’re in a cycle that hasn’t quite made that turn yet.
So the room carries this feeling of like, “I’ve built something…or I’m trying to…but why does it feel stuck?”
There’s almost a sense that parts of this room were meant for a different version of your life, or a version of you that’s changing now.
.•~*The Overall Feeling of This Room:
This is a room where things are trying to move, but aren’t fully landing. Control is being held onto out of necessity, not ease. Stability exists…but it feels heavy instead of comforting. Also, something is ready to change, but hasn’t fully turned the wheel completely yet.
It’s not crazy and wild. It’s paused in the middle of becoming something else. That pause is where the discomfort lives.

Pile Two: 9 of Cups, The Lovers, The Sun, The High Priestess reversed
The first thing you notice when you step into this room is how good it feels.
It’s warm and inviting. There’s light pouring in. It’s the kind of space where people would say, “Woooww, this is NICE.” That’s the 9 of Cups, the Sun, and the Lovers all working together to create a room that feels emotionally full, connected, and even a little dreamy.
There’s laughter here, softness, and comfort. This is a room that looks like happiness. But stay a second longer… Because there’s something just slightly… off. The High Priestess reversed is quiet about it.
It feels like there’s something in this room that isn’t being acknowledged or addressed. Not necessarily something crazy or dark…but something unspoken. Something intuitive that hasn’t been fully trusted or expressed.
It’s like the room is beautifully lit…but there’s a door that stays closed.
. • What This Room Looks Like:
The 9 of Cups brings in comfort and satisfaction. There’s a cozy couch, maybe a drink set out, soft pillows, a sense of “everything you need is here.” It feels curated for pleasure and ease. This is a space where you’re supposed to feel content.
The Lovers adds connection. This room feels shared, even if no one else is physically there. There are signs of closeness with two chairs angled toward each other, maybe two cups on a table, and a sense of emotional or romantic presence.
Then the Sun floods everything with light. Big windows, golden tones, and warmth that fills the entire space. This is the part that makes the room feel so open, so alive, and so good.
BUT the High Priestess reversed is the part of the room that doesn’t get shown.
There’s a drawer that stays closed. A journal that isn’t opened. A feeling in your chest that you brush off because everything else looks “fine.”
It’s the sense that your intuition has something to say…but the room is so comfortable and so bright, that it’s easy to ignore it.

Pile Three: 7 of Pentacles, 5 of Swords, Justice, 8 of Swords, 3 of Swords
When I walk into this room, the first thing I feel is very quiet tension. Not the kind that explodes but the kind that sits in your chest and doesn’t move.
The 7 of Pentacles is all over this space. This is a room where someone has been sitting, thinking, reflecting… and maybe staring at the same spot a little too long. There’s patience here, but it doesn’t feel peaceful…it feels like waiting for something that already gave you an answer you didn’t want.
Suddenly, you notice the emotional imprint in the room.
The 3 of Swords doesn’t hide. It’s not dramatic here, it’s settled. It’s as if something painful already happened, and now it just lingers around. There’s a heaviness in the air, like the room remembers something.
You can feel it without being told.
The 8 of Swords makes this space feel mentally enclosed. Not physically trapped, there’s room to move, but it feels like there isn’t. Like every thought loops back to the same place.
There might be windows here… but the curtains aren’t open. There’s a sense of, “Okay, I know… but I don’t know what to do with it.”
Then comes the 5 of Swords, and this is where the tension sharpens.
There’s something unresolved here. Possibly a conversation that didn’t go right, maybe a moment where something was said, done, or realized…and it changed the energy.
This isn’t just sadness. There’s a trace of frustration, defensiveness, and maybe even regret.
It’s like someone is replaying a moment, trying to understand what really happened…or what could’ve gone differently.
The Justice card sits in this room like a truth that can’t be avoided. This is the part of the space that feels clear, even if everything else feels heavy.
There’s an awareness here… a knowing. Something about this situation is being seen for what it really is. No sugarcoating and no illusions.
But that knowing? Yeah, it doesn’t make it easier. It just makes it real.
.•*.•*•.The Feeling This Room Gives Off:
This is a room where something has already hurt… and it’s still present. The mind is looping, trying to understand or make sense of it. There’s tension from something unresolved or unspoken, and/or a truth is known…but not fully integrated yet
It’s not denial. It’s sitting with the reality of something that changed you.
