Well, it is YOUR journal📖😊 - so feel free to customize & make it to fit you! ❤️

Here’s some ideas:

💡Keep logs of the readings you; whether for you or someone else. Writing down your personal interpretations during readings will help you to remember things about what you’re drawing.

💡 Have some pages dedicated to each of the cards. This could entail keywords & phrases, correspondences, even express how the card’s artwork speaks to you.

💡 Jot down your personalized, custom tarot spreads that you’ve put together yourself; any spreads that you’ve tried and want to make sure it’s remembered; or any you’ve come across that you would like to practice in the future.

There are several reasons why you would want to do these exercises:

-You acquired a used Tarot deck

-The cards are repetitive no matter how much you shuffle

-You feel energetic gunk when you use the deck

The methods:

1.REORDER Re-organizing the deck in numerical order is a great way to cleanse and reset the deck. If you think about it, this is the order it comes in when you buy it, so it’s literally a factory reset. Bonus points if you can reorder the deck while under a trance with the intention to reset it flowing through your hands.

2. KNOCKING Knocking three times firmly is my favorite way to cleanse a deck between clients whenever I read at an event. You can knock the deck against the table, but I prefer to use my knuckles. That way, it’s my intension to cleanse making physical contact with the deck. For an extra oomph, visualize energy dispersing outward from the deck with every knock.

3. CRYSTALS Place a cleansing crystal on the deck and leave it overnight. My crystal of choice is selenite. I leave the tarot deck on a “bed” of tumbled selenite and leave the largest chunk of top of it.

4. MOON BATH If there’s a full moon, there’s hundreds of witchy types racing to place their crystals and other objects on a window sill. The moon has the added bonus of symbolizing intuition. Place the tarot deck in direct moonlight and leave overnight. You can also add your cleansing crystal on top of it. Think of this as the extra rinse cycle.

5. SMOKE CLEANSE This is not smudging. Avoid herbs that are sacred to indigenous cultures or closed practices (i.e. white sage). Two of my favorite herbs to burn to cleanse and purify my Tarot decks are rosemary and thyme. You can use a smoke wand, which is a bundle of herb tightly bound with twine. Loose herbs on a fire-safe container will also work fine. In order to add some of your life force into the cleansing, you can opt for a rolled herbal cigarette (double check the herbs you choose and if you have any allergies). Only one to two puffs will be necessary. And if none of these methods sound appealing, you can always use incense. Whatever you choose, shuffle the cards and pass the deck through the smoke.

6. SALT CLEANSE Technically, salt doesn’t cleanse, it neutralizes. Doing a salt cleanse will neutralize the energy on the cards (some people interpret this as “cleansing” the deck). I would follow this up with crystals and/or a moon bath. Fill a bowl with coarse salt and bury your Tarot deck in the bowl. Leave it overnight.

7. MEDITATION Your mind is powerful. One of the first exercises a young witch or diviner learns is the 4-step routine of grounding, cleansing, centering and shielding. We’re going to focus on cleansing. Once you’ve grounded yourself, imagine a bright white light shining over the deck you’re holding in your hands. Watch the light envelop the deck and the excess energy being blown away by its intensity. Meditate on this visual until you intuitively know that your deck is clear.

Finding Tarot Signifiers with Astrological Decans

Here’s a very brief tutorial on how to use astro.com to pull up a chart, understand which decans you’re looking at, and look up which cards are associated with those decans. 

Finding your decans: 

First, go here and input your birth date information. You’ll need your birth time for an ascendant. Then it will take you to this page. 

It’s optional but to get a chart like the one I’ll show - under “Zodiac and houses”, select the “whole sign” house system. 

Less optional is under “Display and calculation options”, select “Chaldean decans”. 

Then hit “Show Chart”.

It’ll bring up a chart like this: 

What I’ve circled in red are the “Big Three” - Sun, Moon, and Ascendant. Decans are counted counter-clockwise through the signs. 

The Ascendant of this chart is in the first decan of Scorpio - Scorpio I. 

The Sun (circle with a dot in it) is in the second decan of Aquarius - Aquarius II.

The Moon (crescent) is in the third decan of Gemini - Gemini III. 

Alternatively you can scroll down and use the list format: 

The first decan of each sign is 0 degrees - 9 degrees

The second decan is 10 degrees - 19 degrees

The third decan is 20 degrees - 29 degrees

So you can see: 

The AC (short for Ascendant) is at 1 degrees Scorpio - so it’s in the first decan.

The Sun is at 12 degrees Aquarius - so it’s in the second decan. 

The Moon is at 22 degrees Gemini - so it’s in the third decan. 

Finding the cards for the decans:

Queen of Wands - Pisces III, Aries I, Aries II

King of Pentacles - Aries III, Taurus I, Taurus II

Knight of Swords - Taurus III, Gemini I, Gemini II

Queen of Cups - Gemini III, Cancer I, Cancer II

King of Wands - Cancer III, Leo I, Leo II

Knight of Pentacles - Leo III, Virgo I, Virgo II

Queen of Swords - Virgo III, Libra I, Libra II

King of Cups - Libra III, Scorpio I, Scorpio II

Knight of Wands - Scorpio III, Sagittarius I, Sagittarius II

Queen of Pentacles - Sagittarius III, Capricorn I, Capricorn II

King of Swords - Capricorn III, Aquarius I, Aquarius II

Knight of Cups - Aquarius III, Pisces I, Pisces II

Pages vary. Thoth systems tend to align them differently than Rider Waite systems and so many decks are removed from both at this point that it’s often easier to read and see which feels right to you. Some people pair them with the Queens or Kings and others use them to represent the element of the suit - similar to aces. I don’t typically use them as signifiers unless they had a traditional relationship to someone’s work. . 

How to figure out which pip corresponds with a decan (Quick Version):

Signs: 

Aries - Cardinal, Fire

Taurus - Fixed, Earth

Gemini - Mutable, Air

Cancer - Cardinal, Water

Leo - Fixed, Fire

Virgo - Mutable, Earth

Libra - Cardinal, Air

Scorpio - Fixed, Water

Sagittarius - Mutable, Fire

Capricorn - Cardinal, Earth

Aquarius - Fixed, Air

Pisces - Mutable, Water

Cardinal signs are the 2, 3, and 4 for each suit.

Fixed signs are the 5, 6, and 7, for each suit.

Mutable signs are the 8, 9, and 10 for each suit. 

Fire signs are wands. 

Earth signs are pentacles. 

Air signs are swords. 

Water signs are cups. 

The first decan is the first number and suit in the progression. The second is the second and so on. 

Ex: Aries  - cardinal (2,3,4), Fire (wands).

Aries I is 2 of Wands

Aries II is 3 of Wands

Aries III is 4 of Wands.

So for this chart, the options this person can pick from are:

Tarot Minor Arcana: Tens | Let’s Learn Tarot

This post is part of the Let’s Learn Tarot Series with The Little Oracle.

Tarot Decks are comprised of the Major Arcana and Minor Arcana. The Minor Arcana relate to everyday events of our lives, and are divided into four suits: Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles. Each suit has cards with numbers 1 through 10, as well as the court cards of Page, Knight, Queen, and King.

When learning the minor arcana of tarot, instead of trying to memorize the meaning of each card, it is much more effective to understand the core concepts of the suits and the numbers of the cards, and from there extrapolate the meaning of each card. This will let you become a more intuitive and effective tarot reader. A master-post of these lessons will be linked in a re-blog.

In this lesson, we will be looking at the minor arcana Tens.

Tens are the end of a cycle. They represent completion. Tens may also mean renewal, new changes, and good luck. The negative aspects of Ten is seen in getting what you wanted but discovering it isn’t what you thought it would be, or working to burnout to accomplish a goal. In most tarot decks, each Ten will have ten of the suit items represented in its imagery.

Tarot card numbers derive much of their meaning from numerology. In numerology, Ten is self-sufficient and independent. It carries aspects of both one and zero. It represents wholeness, unity, and completion.

When we combine the energy of the Ten card with the energy of its suit, we get the following meanings for the Tens of the Tarot deck: Ten of Wands: 10 energy plus fire/spiritual energy. Burnout. Over-commitment. Stress. Ten of Cups: 10 energy plus water/emotional energy. Family. Happy times ahead. Marriage or birth. Emotional strength. Ten of Swords: 10 energy plus air/intellectual energy. Fate. Sudden, unexpected ending. Betrayal. Martyrdom. Letting go of the past. Ten of Pentacles: 10 energy plus earth/physical energy. Wealth and financial security. Happy relationships. Abundance.
