Yes, even before the very first shuffling, you are supposed to cleanse the deck. The cards are vulnerable and are prone to energy absorption especially if you have bought the deck online, the physical transit until it reaches your hand, has effect on the cards. I recommend using fire elemental cleansing before you work with them.
2. NOT CONNECTING PERSONALLY WITH THE DECK
Tarot cards are to be your close friends. They should know you personally. Just after buying a deck, get familiar with its energy, each deck has different energies, some are cool, some optimistic and some are straight up sassy. You should spend time and energy to know about your deck and make deck know you. Ask personal questions, ask the deck how it feels about you and pull a card to know. You can even ask how the deck wants you be around it!
3. NOT RESPECTING THE ENERGY
Please keep your tarot decks in a sacred space, it’s not a toy but literally a tool you use to help with life. They should be respected. If you have an altar, you can have them there, otherwise, place them somewhere personal to you , where people don’t disturb the energy. Also regular cleansing of tarot is another form of respecting. Tell the decks you care about them and respect them.
4. NOT TRUSTING
Well, this one is the most common. Almost every tarot reader must have faced this situation when the deck keeps popping the same damn card when you re-pick for the same question.
