Ship Tropes Game
Thank you for the tag @julie-spirit-finn — this was a fun one! 🥰
RULES: Pick one of your ships and name 5 tropes that apply to them. For each trope, explain why it fits — not just in terms of dynamics, but what it reveals about your blorbos as characters. Think of it as both ship analysis and character dissection.
⸻
Now, I’m gonna be real — I don’t know many tropes, so I just googled a list and picked out the ones that felt right. 😂 I might be misinterpreting some of them, but here we go!
Pairing: Rook/Tarquin
From: Show Me & Her Deep, Dark Pit
⸻
Affectionate Nickname
Had to start with this one because I’ve grown to love it so much. Tarquin calls Rook little dragon — a nickname that’s even started slipping into my other fics now, haha. She’s sweet, yes, but she’s also fierce in her own way. She throws herself into danger not because she’s fearless, but because she cares too much to stand by and do nothing. That balance — tenderness and fire — is exactly what makes her his little dragon.
⸻
Covered in Kisses
In Her Deep, Dark Pit, Tarquin finds Rook in the Lighthouse, neck-deep in grief and depression. He washes her clean and with every part of her he touches, he kisses — from her calves to the crown of her head. Sometimes words fall short. And when they do, Tarquin shows his love through actions — in the sweet press of his lips to her skin.
⸻
Longing Look
Tarquin’s had a thing for Rook for years. And for just as long, he’s stayed silent. He’s watched her fall for others, all while keeping his feelings buried — because he cares too much to risk their friendship. He decided he wouldn’t be the one to speak first. Not unless she gave him a reason to.
⸻
Grumpy x Sunshine
Look, I love Tarquin — but he’s a grump. A mouthy, sassy, hot, sexy, beautiful grump. He’s sharp-tongued, easily irritated, a spitfire… but around Rook? That flame softens to a flicker. She tempers him. Soothes him. Brings out something gentler. And stars, he loves her for it.
⸻
Leaving You to Find Myself
Okay, so this one’s not directly about Rook/Tarquin but it contributed to them finally getting together. Rook and Lucanis had something — something that was working beautifully. But after she saved Minrathous, he pushed her away. And it broke her. So she let him go. She chose to open her heart to someone who chose her right back — Tarquin, the man who’s always been there. And when she and Lucanis made amends, she (spoiler alert) didn’t go back to him. Because she finally understood her worth. Leaving him wasn’t the end of something — it was the beginning of finding herself… and the love she’s deserved all along.
⸻
And there ya have it! 5 tropes (I think).

Thank you again, Julie! <3 I haven't had much writing/reading time lately so this was a really nice opportunity to think about DAV & its characters! :-)
