I’ve heard some people compare the new monsters designs to the ones from Frontier and Online, especially Magnamalo. Do you have any thoughts on that matter?
(I kinda get where they’re coming with that, especially with Magnamalo as you said. It’s definitely extravagant to say the least, but it’s (seemingly) an Elder Dragon threat-level flagship and also in the same family as Zinogre so it gets somewhat of a pass in my book.)
(But the thing is, Frontier and Online had plenty of great monster designs. Sure, there were some that were absolutely ridiculous and looked ugly or overdesigned by MH standards, with the Zenith and Burst species being the worst examples, but many would fit right in perfectly with the rest of the series. I would adore seeing Baruragaru, Odibatorasu or Tartaronis in the main games.)
(For me, and I assume most people, Frontier and Online are not bad games in the slightest. They just don’t mesh well with the main series in terms of style, which makes sense as they were made by a different team. Like I’ve said, there are amazing monsters that would fit perfectly in the main series, but there are also plenty of others that look like Digimon or something and have attacks that fill up the entire screen.)
