Jasmine, talking to Maverick in Agrabah instead of on the Isle, is absolutely delighted to discover a little-known feature that Nikita and Tarzan apparently share with the man who adopted them;

Maverick absolutely loves animals.

Unlike Nik and Tarzan, Maverick does know what the animals she sees are, even the ones the Isle doesn't have. But she'd never seen most of them in person. So she was absolutely delighted by the songbirds, the elephants, the alligators, the monkeys- even the ones she had seen before, like the tigers and bears, she was experiencing in a new way because she was meeting ones that weren't trying to kill people. And she was so, so excited.

Like dad like children, Jasmine thinks.

Tarzan; So there's four of them and only one of me and they're all bigger than me, but I have some hairspray and a lighter, so I'm gonna make a flamethrower and fry these bitches. Maverick, completely calm; No one is frying any bitches

Rain winds up being surly and defiant, which Maverick absolutely expected considering his childhoos was spent being experimented on until all he could eat was human flesh, then use as a living weapon, then the time she spent trying to fix him- like, that's a shitty childhood. She absolutely anticipated him being difficult. And it kind of worried her. Maverick herself had been an immensely difficult child both with her birth family and with her foster family, and her birth family had despised her for it. They hated her for it. And sure, Facilier and Ursula just worked through it with her and rolled with every punch she threw their way, but those two are (as far as she's concerned) absolute saints. Maverick was worried, seeing in Rain the challenges that her prompted so much vitriol from her family, that she'd grow to resent him like her birth family had resented her. Because Maverick is nowhere near as patient or forgiving as Facilier, she's far moodier and definitely more agro, and she worried she wasn't going to be able to manage the patience he'd managed with her, and that she'd wind up treating Rain like her birth family had treated her.

That wasn't the case.

Maybe it was because Maverick understood where his actions were coming from, maybe she was just really good at copying her dad, but she rolled with the punches nearly as perfectly as Facilier had with her. Sure, she'd get frustrated, she'd occasionally find herself biting her tongue to keep from snapping, but she never even came close to hating Rain the way her family had hated her. She never found him hard to tolerate and certainly never found him hard to love, not even for a second. Loving that boy was as easy as breathing to her. It would have taken active effort on her part to dislike him, let alone to hate him. Like, that's her boy. She can't imagine hating her son.

She got a kid exactly like her, something her mother and sisters had always wished on her to give her a taste of her own medicine. But, instead of understanding why her behaviour had made them hate her, all it did was confirm to her that her family shouldn't have treated her like that. Because she's got her little mini-me right there, and he's so easy to love. They're all so easy to love. She'd always known that how she was treated was wrong, but this just further confirmed it. A taste of her own medicine revealed that it wasn't anywhere near as bad as she'd been led to believe, and just made the way she'd been treated even worse in her eyes. She was in their shoes, and yet she couldn't imagine so much as threatening to hit Rain.

Rain was easy to love. River, Julia, Nikita, and Tarzan, they're all so easy to love. They challenge her, they stress her out, and sometimes they piss her off, but she could never imagine treating them the way she'd been treated. Dealing with them just made the way she'd been treated even more horrifying, because it really showed her how cruel it had been.

Her kids really gave her a brand-new perspective on her childhood. And it was one that just made how she'd been treated look even more fucked up.

Isle Council

Just like Auradon has an official council called together to discuss and vote on important issues, the Isle has a semi-official one. Regular meetings, happening every time the seasons change, are usually nothing of note. But when the council is called outside of these scheduled meetings? That has only happened twice. Both times were events the Isle, both adults and children, would never forget.

Maverick will outlive God trying to deny it but her four "crew members" (Tarzan, Nikita, Giles, and Gordon) are basically her kids. She denies it because she doesn't think she would make a good dad but they all disagree. Honestly, Nikita fully believes that Maverick is her new dad
