Explore the Jungles on the embankment of Tasik Chini, Malaysia!

The series of 12 fresh-water lake interconnected by the nearing jungles is the beautiful Tasik Chini. Many environmentalist have concluded that the landscape is threatened. The fragile yet, magnificent landscape has much to offer to travellers. Moreover, ecotourism will only motivate the government ot preserve this landscape better.

Malaysiaś secoond largest fre-water lake is surrounded by tropical forest which is rich in flora and fauna variety. The least disturned jungles of Tasik Chini is home to not just endangered wildlife but, also the Jakun Tribe (one of the 18 orang asli sub-ethnic groups in Malaysia). Those who are a softy for stories, legends and myth, nothing can be better than than Tasik Chini and its surroundings.

Did you know that the lake supposedly has an ancient Khmer city at its bottom which is protected by a dragon (called Naga Seri Gumum by the Jakuns), living in the lake? While you tread the forest, keep an eye out for the caves and waterfalls. It is only October to March that the birds migrate from Northern Asia. So, birdwatcher, you need to wait it out.

Chini Lake - Tasik Chini : The Mystical Waters of Pahang

The lake that is full folklores from ancient civilization to mystical creatures.The 12.5 acres which is made up of 12 lakes is only second to Lake Bera, also in Pahang. The aborigines suggest that once upon a time both of these lakes were connected.

There were reports of occasional sightings of the monster by the locals, indigenous and even tourist but unfortunately there is no scientific evidence of the existence of it. .Naga Seri Gumum or the Malaysian Loch Ness Monster is believed to inhibit this Lake.

Now off course, it has to be guarding someone or something right? It is said that "Naga Tasik Chini ( Lake Chini Dragon) guard a sunken ancient Khmer City. The city dates back to the 5th Century The existence of Nelumbo Nucifera (Sacred Lotus) A species of lotus from Lake Chini which is the same species from many ancient Asian sites such as Angkor Wat (ancient Khmer,Cambodia) goes the further excites the existence of the hidden city.The lake is filled with blooming lotus from the period of August to September. The are also some that believe that the Lotus was brought to the lake by a monk from Khmer with a group of Khmer refuges that fled the country during war. As the lake resembles Ton le Sap, they've decided to stay in Lake Chini. During the monsoonal floods, from October to January, the lotus would die but their fertilized new seeds would litter the lake bottom waiting the dry season to bloom again.

The land is inhibited by the aborigines of the Jakun and Semelai tribe. They still live their old traditional ways and very much love the nature. Here's another interesting fact, the Jakun and Semelai, uses language that contains Khmer words. (Hint , Hint). Archaeological finding also traces artefacts of Khmer origins. There are even a couple of books written specifically to address the ancient civilization and the Chini Dragon and a few group of specific interest are still researching the activities in Lake Chini.

About 200 different species of birds, 138 species of flora, and 144 species of fresh water fish call this their home. The list includes macaca, Malayan soft shell turtle, white handed gibbon and spiny terapin.

SK Tasik Chini Orang Asli national school creates history

SHAH ALAM, April 18:

Sekolah Kebangsaan Tasik Chini, Pekan, Pahang and its headmaster Akit Bin Huat were among 630 headmasters and 566 primary schools nationwide which received the Headmasters New Deal (TBGB) Award 2013 for their outstanding performance last year.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said they comprised 209 urban schools, 302 rural schools and 55 remote schools.

He said the achievement for 2013 showed an increase compared with 2012 when a total of 180 urban schools and 280 rural schools were given the award.

“National Type Chinese Schools rose from 54 in 2012 to 74 schools while National Type Tamil Schools rose from 45 schools in 2012 to 54 schools. Of these recipients, 119 schools have received this award four times in a row.

“I would like to draw attention to the success of the only Orang Asli national school, namely Sekolah Kebangsaan Tasik Chini, Pekan, Pahang that was nominated and won the award,” said Muhyiddin who is also Education Minister at a ceremony to present the TBGB Award 2013, here today.

Muhyiddin said the aim of the TBGB award was to recognise effective school leadership to produce the desired “outcome”.

“I believe that the headmasters present here have succeeded as proven by the recognition of their outstanding performance via TBGB today.”

He said 22,063 school staff comprising headmasters, teachers and members of the implementation group would benefit from the TBGB award, which amounted to RM23.2 million this year.
