Isobel was a bit miffed about the Triwizard tournament being held in their fourth year, if only because that meant she herself couldn’t compete. If Isobel had been older then without a doubt she would have cast her name in, regardless of how much Anthony would scold her. She was confident in her abilities to take on anything, even a dragon. Alas, she couldn’t find a way to get past the age line, no matter how hard she tried.
The tournament did offer Isobel an opportunity to better observe Beauxbatons, though, a school she almost attended. Her mother’s side was of French descent and as such were quite keen on Isobel attending when she turned eleven. Every summer during her stay in France they less than subtly tried to convince her to go to the much more aristocratic – at least in their eyes – school of Beauxbatons. Unfortunately, the MacDougal’s were adamant that Isobel attend Hogwarts.
She made many friends from the foreign school during the year due to her firm grasp on the language compared to her peers who had to struggle through a language barrier. With her easy mastery of French and glittering blonde hair, Isobel slipped in with the girls from the French school like she was born there. It was heartbreaking when she had to bid them all farewell.
Of course, Isobel was also just as excited about the Yule Ball as the rest of her peers. Growing up a pureblood, she had become accustomed to grand parties and events and relished in any opportunity to dress to the nines and impress. True to her nature, Isobel would have left a trail of broken hearts at the ball if it wasn’t for the fact she had been dating somebody at the time, surprisingly.
Always one for flings and no real commitment, Matthew Stewart was Isobel’s only ever real boyfriend. A sweet Hufflepuff, they’d actually had a fairly pleasant relationship for a few months before they broke up for exactly that reason – that’s all it was, pleasant. There was no fire, no passion. They parted amicably, a mutual breaking off of a crumbling relationship. That wasn’t before they had a smashing night at the Yule Ball, however, falling victim to some spiked punch and spending the entire night giggling and carrying on.
Isobel would always look back on that night as the only time she ever really considered settling down with somebody.
