Bulbine bulbosa | Liliaceae Perennial herb growing from a corm. . Flowers through spring and easy to spot as the bright yellow flowers stand quite high amongst the grasses and shrubby things they grow amongst. Apparently you can eat the corms and they taste nice roasted, but I don't believe in eating out native flora so I wouldn’t know that… So I have a mate whose Honours project involved Bulbine seed (That would be Meridy who took the seed photo). We were actually discussing these today. She pronounces it 'Bul-by-nee'… I say 'bul-byn'… I'm interested to know how you said it in your head when you first read the word. Ever since I realised that most of the world pronounce the plant genus Anenome as 'An-enemy' and not 'An-em-own' like I have my whole life I have developed a strong interest in how people say things different. So humour me. There is no right or wrong. Cyathodes glauca | Purple Cheeseberry | Ericaceae | Tasmanian endemic⁠ ⁠ 🍃⁠ ⁠ If you don't catch this one with flowers at some time in late spring to summer, you will probably still find it with it's little white or red or purple drupe. A drupe being like a little squished berry, but not a berry, because berries are different... ⁠ ⁠ 🌿⁠ ⁠ Generally found through wet forests up to about 1000m and at lower altitudes. It is a pretty common one and chances are you have come across it before, especially if frequent walks around mountains. Naturally it is one of my favourites, at any time of year really, when it is in flower, or when the drupes are all purple and fresh, or like here when it has new growth ready to explode. Pterostylis scabrida | The Rough Greenhood | Orchidaceae . 🍃 . One of our gorgeous little endemic orchids that you can still find flowering amongst the leaf litter in the wet forests of Tassiemania. Fairly widespread and common, you just need to keep your eyes open! Known as the rough greenhood because it has a green hood... and a rough scape. . 🌱 . Like a lot of our terrestial orchids they can be hard to spot on the forest floor, but once you see one you will no doubt spot a whole bunch more. Correa lawrenceana (Rutaceae) . . Commonly called the ‘Mountain Correa’ because it grows on mountains in the subalpine wet forests... it’s a tall shrub that is quite distinct and easily spotted. Especially at the moment because it is one of the few things in flower. If it’s not in flower you can pick it out by the opposite leaves that have noticeable glands. Very ‘Correa’ looking really! Leaves are green on top and whitish yellow dusty looking underneath. . . Flowers can be hard to spot until you are used to it, being a pale yellow/greeny colour so they do blend in well! They are cute though, especially when they are babies and look like little blobs with hats on. Well. I think so anyway. . I wandered along the Milles track on Mt Wellington today (Hobart) and saw loads of them.
