After watching Abbas Kiarostami's 'Taste of Cherry' (1997), I thought to myself – "What if I'm one of the characters to whom Badii asks for help in ending his life? What if this incident happens to me in real life? Would I run away just like the Kurdish soldier? Would I discourage him not to do it because it is forbidden in the Quran just like what the Afghan seminarian advises him? Or tell him to look for the silver lining just like what the Turkish taxidermist tells him?" This film would not only shows you banal things that the material world presents. It also helps you formulate existentialist questions, making you vulnerable as a viewer, and at the same time transcends your thoughts into unimagined possibilities.
