just more of your usual doctor who balancing a critique of american capitalism with...pigs and human daleks???

i know i’m watching martha out of order but i’ve already been reminded of how she had her own proper development, like her confidence isn’t where it will be even a few eps later in family of blood and just i love her

when i was putting together the list of episodes i was like huh daleks in new york in the 30s i don’t really remember that

probably bc it was not very memorable lol

there’s just so much potential subtext here that is just all over the place re capitalism and pigs and daleks and the 30s

interesting having just had ascension of the cybermen where time lords being evolved are part of villainy versus here where time lord dna is part of the solution

i do really love the end--like i love it with all docs--where they’re facing down something inevitable like a person’s death and they’re like hell no not today

gosh they really don’t know what to do with this period in history do they

other than the fact that this ep was filled with a lot of things that rub me the wrong way like casual sexism and n*zis for shock value

i’d like to appreciate every single actor on this ridiculous show for acting the heck out of whatever is happening here

i mean kingston is having the time of her life being melody and the child of gillan and darvill here 

smith got to have a dramatic doc death scene (and god his physicality!) 

gillan as the robot version as herself

so yeah i’ve got one more 1938 and let’s see where that lands

the 30s are for new york

wow we actually delivered on this one

weeping angels always a hit

like all the pulling on the heartstrings moments with less of the confusion that i associate with this era

wow i’m just now realizing how often the companions get questionable endings 

a lot of them are bittersweet where they end up in an irreversible but not altogether horrible situation esp given the alternatives (rose, the ponds, clara, bill)

and some are just brutal (donna!!!) (i mean the other ones r brutal in addition to bittersweet but donna!!)

anyway saying goodbye always hurts!!!!

we’re about to go into wwii so tune in l8r for that hot mess
