“So here is my 2015 GBWC entry, the iconic MS-06S Char Zaku II. This took about 8 months of designing, mistakes, and hard work, and I’m pretty satisfied with it. I am heavily inspired by Kazuhisa Kondo as a sci-fi/mechanical designer, as well as Toriwo Toriyama and Max Watanabe as scale modelers, and this Zaku II is a combined tribute to their artful prowess. My aim was to create a more aggressive and menacing looking Char Zaku, while maintaining the sense of industrial realism that is championed in the “real robot” movement. I really wanted to push the Zaku aesthetic by creating better proportions, highlighting each curve and bulge as if the mobile suit itself is muscular; a brute mechanic which its sole purpose is the destruction of the enemy. I’m a strong believer that robot/cyborg mechanics is in its purest form is an extension of the human presence, and in that sentiment, I hope that I achieved the ferocity and passion of Char Aznable in this piece. And I hope you actually like it haha”
If you guys have any questions for Cyril, please send us an ask and we’ll try to get them answered as soon as possible! In the next coming weeks we’ll try to post some completed works of our modelers as they finish up their entries for the 2015 GBWC as well as for SCGMC in November.
