Big firmament 8 spoilers below as I ramble about the ending

Sooo Tatters is Salt, right? Or a piece of him, left behind long ago.

There’s been a whole lot of references to Salt in the last two chapters, between the Knave at Queen Eaters and all the mentions of the Traveler Returning at Stonegift. There’s also been a lot of references to the Seventh Letter, what with meeting the play’s author and now the Fire saying it wants to wake Storm and bring about the Seventh Letter.

Salt’s story fits VERY nicely with the ongoing themes of Firmament, changing oneself beyond recognition and being better for it. Each of our officers has been remade by outside forces, just as Salt was remade by the White to fit its schemes.

In the Seventh Letter, there’s a scene where the Phoenix (Salt) casts off its flames and and remakes itself in ice (Frostfound) before continuing on its travels. In a lot of the art of the Fire this chapter, it appeared as a flaming bird. That Fire left behind still wants to continue the original mission. At least until next chapter when we convince him that being human’s not so bad (please FBG I don’t want to have to fight him).

It's kinda wild how long it's been clear Tatterdemalion escaped from the dawn machine... and how it hasn't actually come up or been expanded upon. Like, the main plot is ELSEWHERE, I get it!, but also it's implied and pretty much confirmed by chapter 2. One of your crew is the creator of the dawn machine. Does... he even realize who she is? Can we touch base with him on this soon pls
