Bolt launches in Uyo and Calabar
Bolt (formerly Taxify), the leading on-demand transportation platform in Africa, today launched operations in Uyo and Calabar. It is the first ride-hailing service to connect passengers with drivers in these cities. The expansion move brings Bolt’s cities in Nigeria to a total of seven: the service is already well established in Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, Owerri and Benin City. Bolt is a cell phone-based application that lets passengers easily, quickly and cost-effectively request for a driver to pick them up wherever they are, to take them wherever they want to go. Uche Okafor, Bolt’s Regional Manager for West Africa: “After our successful launches in Nigeria’s main centres, expanding to Uyo and Calabar is a natural next step for Bolt as it further reinforces our position to make urban travel easier, quicker and more reliable. We are also looking forward to introducing flexible employment opportunities to thousands of drivers and vehicle owners in both cities”. Read the full article
I am one of those small girls that say ‘fight me’ but cry as soon as someone raises their voice, and I just had a shady Bolt/Taxify driver demanding that I pay 50 dollars for the return of my home keys that my mom accidentally left in his car this morning.
The driver would not accept that we couldn’t afford to pay the 50 bucks, he literally sent me away empty handed. THIS STRANGER HAD KEYS TO MY HOME AND HAS MY ADDRESS.
Cue my neighbor dude witnessing the incident, and getting involved on my behalf.
Now, as a long time fanficcer let me tell you, I felt like a fucking omega/sub standing there a few feet away while my neighbor debated down this driver, literally doing the maths on how far the journey was to return it, what the gas cost, the fact that keeping the keys would be theft etc. My head was racing with all those same thoughts, but I am terrible at confrontations, I get all teary and nervous and basically useless. But here comes this alpha, perfectly laying out the facts and refusing to hear nonsense from this person obviously trying to scam us, which is a usual thing in South Africa.
So there I stand to the side, clutching the front of my shirt, in tears, watching this alpha male defend me with logic and laws and successfully get my keys back for 15 bucks (which was what we did manage to get for the driver as thanks). By the end of it I was just about ready to bare my neck and let him have me. I said thank you and he said no problem, and that was it. I did think the cliche ‘how can i repay you’ stuff but I can barely order food over the phone let alone thank a guy with sex LOL.
Having the guy fight my battle isn’t a female thing, my aunt was ready to come outside to tear this driver a new one herself. It was just me being a fucking subby omega. It felt like I was in some kind of fanfiction, especially as I’m fairly aromantic and celibate and I’ve never ‘wanted’ him, but holy hell I was so hot for him after that.
So that experience was awesome, but now I am scared to death that the driver made copies of our keys in the hours he had it and will come to rob, rape and kill us tonight because he got a good verbal beat down by my neighbor and wants his 50 fucking bucks and the return of his wounded pride. I want to change our locks anyway but we can’t afford shit. How the fuck am I sleeping tonight jfc I can’t catch a break with life
