Siuálâ ding Meángûbié (Voice of the Dead) is a living treasure, a walking encyclopedia, the foremost expert on anything & everything #Kapampangan! He is the co-founder of the Center for Kapampangan Studies at Holy Angel University and of Sínúpan Singsing: Center for Kapampángan Cultural Heritage, in which he serves as its Executive Director. Support Sínúpan Singsing in their efforts to research, preserve, & promote our Kapampangan cultural heritage. Visit them at the Angeles City Library (a library w/c happens to be a donation of the Táyag family to the people of the city 😉). . With one of my all time #mcm, Renato “Katoks” Táyag, a prolific writer, athlete, lawyer, WWII Veteran/Bataan Death March survivor, adventurer, historian, and many more! Truly a renaissance man 😉 As a journalist he defied both the U.S. & Philippine government’s ban on traveling to what was then called “Red China.” His books “Odyssey in Southeast Asia” (1963) & “TAYAG: At Home & Abroad, in Red China & Around Northern Luzon” (1966) have been among the inspirations for my new #AtHomeAndAbroad #vlog series. His other books, such as “The Sinners of Angeles: For Whom Don Juan prays Daily” (1960) & “Recollections & Digressions” (1985), have also been a guiding light in my own writing. I don't remember ever finishing a book this quickly... I guess it helps when the esteemed author is one of your forbearers lol... but honestly, this is one of the most captivating books I've read, there's something in his writing that keeps one engaged. It's no wonder that more than a journalist, a WWII veteran, an athlete, and a lawyer, Katoks is better known as a philosopher... It's just sad that this is no longer in print, in fact my copy dates back from 5 decades ago... Now onto his books about Southeast Asia!!
