“Hey! Earth to Taylen!” Luka huffed, slamming his hand down on the table for good measure.
Taylen jolted in surprise, shaking their head. “What did you need to hit the table for?”
“You’re falling asleep in your chair.”
“You sound like Viviana.” Luka sighed, watching as his friend rested their head on their hand with their eyelids already drooping once more.
Luka couldn’t help but sigh, hitting the table again for good measure. “Maybe we should stop here.”
“What? No.” Taylen frowned, eyes closing, “I’m paying attention… I swear.”
“Mhm.” Luka hummed doubtfully, “repeat one point I made.”
“Mmm…” Taylen mumbled, not actually trying articulating a response anymore.
Luka sighed for the thrice time in a few minutes, rolling his eyes. “Stupid wolf…”
Alas, his grumble went unheard though without a doubt he could imagine the shapeshifter responding with something along the lines of ‘dumb cat’ as a retort. He walked around to Taylen and shook his shoulder.
“Augh… what?” They huff, blearily blinking their eyes, “I told you I was listening!”
“And we both know you weren’t.” Luka poked Taylen’s forehead, causing them to pout. “How late did you stay up?”
“Uh…” Luka stared at Taylen’s eyebrows furrowed, he could see their eyes on the clock and the cogs turning in their head as they tried to decipher the numbers on it.
“Until now?” Looks like they gave up reading. Luka didn’t blame them.
Luka didn’t care about their protests, already manhandling the shapeshifter out the chair with little difficulty. Sure, Taylen was a bit wobbly on their feet and a tad bit taller than Luka, but at least Luka had the muscle for it.
“Luka I have things to do!”
“Taylen, if you keep running around with no sleep you’re going to get hurt, or worse, caught.”
“I don’t want you to risk it!” Luka yelled, frustration bubbling in his gut and starting to fill his lungs. “So, for once, please just listen and take a break.”
“Yes you can!” Luka huffed, looking up at the ceiling for a moment before back at Taylen, “you told me what you had to do today.”
“Yes! You did!” He was on the verge of screaming internally. He hated how quickly he got worked up over these things, and poor Taylen they were just a tad bit too disoriented to understand everything in the moment. “You’re just babysitting Viviana unless you lied to me.”
“I didn’t lie.” Taylen spoke one of the most common lies in existence as Luke roughly shoved them onto the couch.
“Good.” He wore a tight smile, “I’ll go pick up and take care of Viviana then, meanwhile you need to rest.”
“No buts!” Luka took a deep breath, grabbing a blanket and wrapping it around Taylen’s shoulders, “I’ll wake you up before she has to go home, alright?”
Taylen grumbled some incomprehensible words which were probably swears before they sighed, “fine…”
“Good.” Luka huffed. “I’ll come back before I leave, I’ll just change into something other than pyjamas…”
“Sounds like a good idea.” Taylen mumbled, already leaning heavily on the couch cushions.
With that Luka walked off into his bedroom. It could only have been give minutes maybe, ten at most. Definitely not more than fifteen.
“I’m leaving now!” He called, before walking into the living room to check on Taylen.
They were fast asleep on the couch, thankfully. Luka sighed softly, doing his best to lay them down so they wouldn’t wake up with an aching neck. Tucking them in properly, Luka hesitated for a few seconds.
It would be weird, wouldn’t it? People do this in movies, not real life.
He pulled away from Taylen, shaking his head trying to rid the thought of kissing their forehead and wishing that they slept well.
“Take care of yourself.” he grumbled, walking out of the room. They didn’t like him anyways.
