Taylor Barnard had difficulties relating to his car this season due to DS Penske and he recently revealed that he used the "George Russell approach" from the Williams' day to manage expectations (link)

not that anyone cares but was on a call with Max Günther and Taylor Barnard this morning because idk, didn't have anything else to do at the time so here's some Updates from them: (most of the quotes aren't stellar so I'm summarising)

Max is so polite and still somehow remembers who I am, bless him

they are excited to be teammates, the whole DS Penske team including the engineering feels very young alongside their pairing so they think it's going to be a very energetic year

Taylor specifically wanted to work with Max - apparently they both like an over-steer-y car, whereas Sam (and JEV) prefers an under-steer-y one so they think they'll have very similar feedback

Taylor has not driven the DS Penske car yet and will only get a very short go before Valencia

when he found out about McLaren Taylor kind of knew he'd be ok but was very upset for the team and is still upset for Sam. "It wasn't that I learnt all the news in one go. Of course you hear rumours and you start to speak with the team. It was around Jeddah when we kind of understood McLaren wasn't going to be part of the situation anymore. But it wasn't until much later until we figured out that there would not be the team anymore. That was quite a difficult time, honestly. Especially for Sam and being in the same room as Sam, having a lot of respect for him and being his teammate and friends for the whole year to see him being so emotional because of his situation now was a very difficult moment for me."

he had multiple offers (not a surprise) and picked DS Penske because he thought their way of working suited him best

even tho DS (and Penske) are not confirmed for Gen4 they both talked about there being a very well-thought-out programme to develop Gen4 this year so I guess that answers that

Max is quite excited (in a restrained, German way) for being the oldest in the team. he says he will miss JEV and learned a lot from him.

Max also thinks it'll be a very close season, similar to the end of Gen2 (this made me realise JEV has to win this year in order to have a title in every generation)

Max was very diplomatic about Pit Boost because he is a consummate professional but Taylor had a real "oh FUCK I forgot about that shit" face on as he was saying he doesn't think it needs adding to any more races
