Im gonna be honest, its been a wild few months for me, but on one of my lowest days (got misgendered for the first time in a year lads, and it happened 4 times in one conversation) i was elated to see an email from the mcelroys merch coordinator telling me that they liked my idea for a pride shirt, it really turned that moment around for me. This shirt was made real through their help almost a year after I painted myself my own shitty version to wear to the taz book tour! I was also able to use the money I got for the shirts design in order to pay for a yrs supply of t w/out insurance, which is now on its way to me. really putting the t in t shirt lmao. its the first time ive done that without feeling sick from the cost! All because of this fun, very gay shirt. The brothers took a risk listening to my request to keep the shirt as is instead of adding taakos name, allowing for the double meaning and for the shirt to be great apparel for pride parades without making non-taz listeners feel confused or left out. They worked really hard to avoid rainbow capitalism while giving a platform to a queer artist, and I cannot thank them enough for that! I really, really, really hope people like the design!
fun fact: I already knew taako was gay before listening to taz, so i came up with this shirt the minute he said his tagline. I thought that if i ever cosplayed taako or went to a taz event I would for sure paint myself the shirt, and later i drew taako wearing it. Who would have thought that a year after that I would be ordering a real one for myself? btw if anyone wears this to cosplay taako i will heart eyes emoji crying emoji
Another fun fact: I used a selfie for the reference to draw taakos pose and did not own an umbrella at the time so I posed like that with a broom. Dont worry, I now own two umbrellas! Neither of them are fancy tho.
