I really believe that when you’re new to a genre/form, there’s a learning curve in how to read it, and you have to find something really special to teach yourself that literacy. Saezuru is the manga that got me into manga. In it, yakuza boss Yashiro, known for being a lecherous bottom and fucking his way through every other gang, gets a new bodyguard, Doumeki Chikara. Doumeki grapples with his intense attraction to Yashiro, which he’s never experienced before and which turns quickly into obsession. While Doumeki falls in love with, is willing to die for, wants to stand beside Yashiro forever, Yashiro–because of the things his stepfather did to him in the past–is unable to believe he can be loved.

Saezuru currently has 6 volumes officially translated into English. It’s an ongoing series with new chapters every other month or so. There’s also an OVA, The Clouds Gather, which is part 1 of hopefully 3. Even though the sex is tasteful, I don’t advise watching it with anyone with whom you wouldn’t watch porn.
