It had been since had been a few weeks since Maria had given birth to you. You were a healthy child and Manolo and Maria were so happy that you came into their lives.
Maria entered her and Manolo’s bedroom, approaching your crib where Manolo was happily watching over you. The brunette was followed by Chuy. The pig hadn’t had the chance to meet you yet, but today would change that.
Maria took you in her arms, smiling towards her husband. “Hola, princesa,” she greeted you and you answered with a small happy cry. She gently put you down on the soft carpet of the hard wooden floor. Chuy quickly circled around you and you released a soft giggled at the animal’s actions. The pig approached you and carefully nudged you with his nose. You chuckled and took ahold of the collar around his neck.
Chuy emitted a sound of surprise. You couldn’t help but giggled again at the weird sound. The pig left the room and came back, minutes later, with a small wooden rattle. Chuy dropped it beside you. You took it and were immediately amazed at the sound made by the object.
You played for a while before Chuy left the room once again to go fetch another item. This process continued for a few hours during which Manolo and Maria watched in joy as you and the pig got along.

What had once been lively streets bustling with life were now dead quiet- or at least, they would be if it weren’t for the pair walking throughout the town under the cover of night chattering to each other quietly in hushed warmth and fondness. An excitement to finally have a moment alone after the growing energy of the day, anticipation for a show to be held by the taller of the pair.
One of the town’s two bullfighters, Jorge Sanchez. A tall and thin man, his hand freshly divorced from his wrist… but that didn’t seem to put much of a damper on his spirits or desire to keep up his name in the arena. No, no, even now as the sword now fixed on his arm glinted in the street lights he spoke with an unshaken confidence for the impending bullfight- a chance for him to show that one “little” wound isn’t going to hold him down for long.
And then there was you, something so small compared to one of the town’s biggest prides.
While Jorge was more than comfortable throwing himself out there and into the center of action, you were… more reserved and committed to standing to the side- all the while cheering him on of course. You were always in the front during his fights, and you were always the first of the chorus of cheers he heard. Though… with how many people were there, you’ve begun to believe he was just saying that to make you feel special… but-
The two of you pass under a streetlight, and you pause under it- the golden light it gave off flickering against your skin. It was the only real warmth the night offered to you.
“Jorge,” You said quietly, letting your hands come together and gently clasp onto one another where you stood. In an instant the bullfighter stopped in his tracks and spun around gracefully to meet your gaze. His smile faltered slightly when he caught the look of slight concern in your gaze as you studied him. From his frame to the curls at the end of his hairs. Then your eyes trailed down to the sword attached to his wrist, eyes fixed on the way the steel glittered under the light- even as the rest of Jorge’s body stood outside of the lamp’s immediate range.
“You’re… are you sure you’re ready to go back in the ring? I don’t doubt that you wouldn’t win, but…” You try to tear your eyes away from the unorthodox prosthetic.
In an instant Jorge’s smile returned, warming his thin features. He adjusted his helmet back, revealing his eyes from under the rim.
“Why of course I’m sure! More than sure, mi querido, you worry far too much,” Jorge chuckled softly, his remaining eye flitting down to the sword. He had… refused to take it off most of the time, choosing instead to keep it attached at all times in order to truly get used to the feel of it being there- to learn how to use it. It feels different when there’s no fingers wrapping around the hilt.
“If I did not feel that I was ready then I wouldn’t be returning so soon, I’m prideful but I am not to be taken as a fool,” He grinned down at you. His jaw shifted, as if to stifle a laugh- your face must have communicated that you weren’t at all sold on his reassurance.
A half laugh half scoff huffed through his teeth as he shook his head- seemingly only mildly offended that you doubt him for even a moment.
“In any case, I hope you’ll be there for the fight… I missed seeing you in the crowd last time,” He extended his hand out to you, and with a faint hesitation you take it in yours.
“Maybe you’ll see me out when I’m dragged out on a stretcher!” He laughed to himself, and to your horror you cover your mouth. He catches it in an instant and silences your thoughts.
“They wouldn’t need to, hand or no hand I still killed the bull,”
You both walk away from the streetlight and through the street.
San Angel was… quiet at night. Almost unbearably so, the sound of your feet on the paved path under you sounded almost too loud even as you attempted to make your steps lighter.
Realistically, you knew there was little risk of waking anyone up at your current volume- made even more unlikely as Jorge walked you to your home, closer towards the edge of town.
“With my luck maybe I’ll end up losing one of my legs…!” Jorge grinned, before shaking his head as if to dismiss the thought. “As if I’d let that happen- the bull can have my hand but I’d be damned if he took my feet!”
“Don’t joke like that you’re going to speak it into existence,” You lightly scold, earning a chuckle from the bullfighter.
“You worry yourself too much mi vida, I’m only joking,”
Your hold tightens on his hand- dully noting the tougher feeling of his palm against yours. No doubt worked rough by vigorous training. It was almost a stark contrast to the rest of him- he took such good care of himself otherwise to maintain his appearance. Yet there was that small part of him that one may perceive as a flaw.
Your fingers rub an absentminded circle against the skin in an act of comfort and self soothing as your thoughts try to spin what ifs and what woulds.
There was no convincing him to take even another week to himself to recover, something that you would have to concede to even if just for now.
“Well… you know it’s because I care for you- I love you so much,” You admit, holding yourself tighter against his arm.
“And I know that, but I need you to have faith in me mi vida, that’s all I need,” He reassured.
You raise a brow at him.
“Really? That’s all you need? Are you sure you didn’t get your head knocked during your last fight? Because I very clearly recall you practically begging me months ago to come with you out of town to an opera house,” You finally… finally… let your previous grin return to your face. Jorge falters for a moment, as if he were a child who was just caught in a lie.
“Well…!” He starts, and you widen your eyes expectantly. “Well I didn’t want to be lonely on the journey there of course,”
You only offer a hum in response, deciding to focus your eyes upwards on the stars decorating the stars above- large empty spaces were left as clouds lazily drifted across the sky. The empty spaces were the only real indication that the clouds were there at all… and the sky seemed full of them.
“I’m serious, it was a long trip,” He continued, before a dull plink cut him off in an instant. Something had landed on his helmet, earning a momentary scowl of surprise from him.
“Mmm… and I’m sure it wasn’t so you could use me as an excuse to Anita for you to slip away to go,” You teased, but…
You truly did enjoy both the journey and show.
Another soft plink, followed by a few more. Your hand raises in front of you- palm upwards and open to collect the drops of water.
A few more turns into a lot more as a light drizzle begins to pour down over the two of you.
“Rain…” Jorge hissed, letting out a soft hiss as he made a move to shield you from the rain, but you took a step forward and away from him.
“It’s been too long since it’s rained,” You murmured under your breath as you twirl- sending a few of the drops that settled on you flying away… not that it did anything to dry you off as they were nearly instantly replaced with new ones.
You… under the golden glow of the street lamps… looked almost glowing, further pushed by the new wetness adorning your exposed skin and hair. Jorge himself was in the same position, but his eye was fixated right on you as you smiled to yourself, still twirling in the rain under the light without a single care in the world. As if all of your previous worries had been washed away by the clouds.
You looked…
Jorge sucks a breath of air through lightly gritted teeth, and he’s left unable to fight the grin creeping across his face- his scowl of annoyance at the rain now long forgotten thanks to the mere sight of you in this moment.
He takes a step closer to you, and with his remaining hand he spins you a little faster- before tugging you to his chest. If he had been wearing his chestplate the coldness of it would shock you right out of your moment of joy… thankfully you were met with a rapidly dampening coat.
You feel Jorge’s chest rumble as he chuckles once more, humoring you with a sway under the light as the rain continues its downpour on the both of you.
“Is this your attempt to get me too sick before the fight?” He teased, though there was no accusation in his tone.
“Mmm… no… I know it would take a lot more than a little shower to do you in,” You shift your face out of his chest and rest your cheek against him. You sniff.
“Though maybe you needed that shower,”
Jorge scoffed, reeling his head away from you- far too committed to keeping you close to him to release you from his arms hold.
“I-” He started but you decided to continue.
“Maybe I’ll let you borrow some of my soap when you get me home, as a little reward,” You teased.
“Are you inviting me to stay the night?” Jorge tilted his head to the side, quirking a brow upwards. You purse your lips together in a mock expression of thought.
“Only if you wrap your sword, I don’t want to wake up to torn up sheets tomorrow,” You snake your arms up along his waist, bringing your hands up to rest your palms against his back. With splayed fingers, you felt every shift of his shoulder blades under your digits.
Jorge pauses, considering your offer.
“Well I make no promises, I keep it sharp- it could cut right through whatever cloth we wrap it in,” He relishes in the feeling of you against him for a moment longer before adjusting yourself to stand by his side once more. With some effort he shrugs off one side of his coat, before holding it up over your head in an attempt to shield you from the onslaught of water as the rain steadily grows stronger.
“Then you’ll simply have to sleep on the floor,” You pout, taking a step forward- careful to keep your pace up with Jorge’s to remain under his coat.
“You wound me, you’re so very mean to me,” He shifts his head slightly to glance at you, the eye on the side facing you having been long injured and removed, now covered with a patch.
“You wound my bed,” You shoot back, a weak remark but it earns a snicker from him.
“Hmm…” He starts again, rounding you around the corner and down the street as your home finally comes into view at the end of the road. “I suppose I can’t deny that, but I replaced your blankets didn’t I?”
You roll your eyes as you make it to the front door.
“Oh yes because that changes everything,” You hum as you run your hands through your hair and wring out as much water as you could.
“I’d argue it does,” Jorge shrugs off his coat and leaves it by the door… he hesitates, unsure if he should move and risk tracking water through your home.
“Come on, I promised you I’d let you use my soaps,” You lightly tug him forward towards the hall.
“You’re still on that…?” He shakes his head, though unoffended. “You know I bathe,”
“Well even if you don’t smell I want you to warm up before bed,” You glance at him over your shoulder as you lead him to the bathroom. He pauses for a moment.
“What about you?”
You only shrug, “I’ll go real quick after you, of course, I can wait- besides it’ll give me a moment to make us a drink,”
That… seems to satisfy him just enough for him to let his grip on you loosen and fall away.
“Very well,” He said softly, and you lightly shoo him into the bathroom. “I’ll be in the kitchen,”
And you walk away, leaving him alone in the hall for a short moment before he turns around and closes the door behind him…
Though as he strips and warms the water, he can’t help but find himself sniffing at himself to make sure he didn’t actually smell…

So… I actually had written a little more than that, but then Word crashed right as I was saving, so I lost everything I had done. So, I tried to rewrite it, but it’s not as good as the original version I had written, sorry!

“Hola, hermano,” Manolo greeted as he entered Joaquin’s house with you, his one year-old child, in his arms. Joaquin nodded in acknowledgement as he leaded Manolo to his living room. In said room, there was a small crib that had been made soon after Joaquin heard the news of Maria’s pregnancy and that he learned that he would be the godfather.
“I am happy that you accepted to watch over Y/N for us,” Manolo informed. “It is no problem. I would do anything for my favourite godchild,” Joaquin smiled at you as he took you in his arms, gently rocking you. Manolo lightly laughed before he continued: “Well, we know that Y/N is in good care.”
Manolo then greeted Joaquin goodbye as he left to go prepare for his and Maria’s date.
“What do you want to do, little one?” Joaquin asked you as your stomach emitted a small gurgled sound. “Hungry? What do you say about eating something?” he proposed and you happily nodded in agreement.
Manolo and Maria entered Joaquin’s house a few hours after they had left Y/N in their best friend’s care. They weren’t surprise to hear nothing coming from the house as it was already late in the night. As Maria entered the living room, she silently called out for Manolo. As the man joined his wife, he was greeted with a cute scene. Joaquin was fast asleep on the couch with you, happily snoring, in his arms.
Manolo and Maria subtly laughed as they realized that they would have something to tease their best friend about in the morning.
