I think one missed opportunity regarding Alberu’s dark elf side is the elementals. I know he’s only one-quarter dark elf and that the canon gives no indication that he can interact with elementals, but it would be so much more interesting if he could. He doesn’t necessarily need to make a pact with an elemental, but it would be so cool if he could at least hear them. With the elementals helping him, Alberu could have an entire network of spies that the vast majority of people wouldn’t be able to detect. That would definitely make his life a lot easier, starting from childhood.

But what would really make the elementals’ presence even better would be when he met Cale.

Imagine if one of the elementals accompanying Alberu had already met a dragon, and the moment the prince entered the banquet hall where the young masters of the noble houses were gathered, that elemental started chattering nonstop about how it was sensing the presence of a dragon. Alberu would surely freak out silently while trying to act normal—because, wait, there was a dragon in the banquet hall?? And our dear shining sun’s confusion would only worsen upon receiving confirmation that the dragon’s aura was coming from that piece of trash Cale Henituse of all people. It would be even better to fuel the misunderstanding if Cale were to glance at Alberu’s hair during their first interaction, and the prince were to notice it and take it as confirmation that Cale really is a dragon—a very strange dragon, by the way—with the misunderstanding lingering all the way until the battle at Death Gorge, where Alberu was finally introduced to Raon.

#I think that if Alberu had had the elementals’ help he would have grown up a little more peacefully #always able to count on their support #and would have had some friendly companions besides the disguised dark elves #even if he had to be careful when interacting with the elementals so that no one would see him and think he was crazy.#Not only that but he would be able to uncover information about his enemies much more easily #and thus deal with them more effectively.#And I think it would be hilarious if from their very first interaction #Alberu believed that Cale was a dragon posing as a human for reasons unknown to him.#Imagine Alberu talking with the nobles from the Northeast and trying to maintain his princely composure #while his elemental friend kept repeating that he should kneel #and show due respect to the esteemed dragon-nim before he ended up offending him.#And poor Alberu is struggling to keep the situation under control #while his dark elf side tells him to follow the elemental’s words and bow #and his human rational side is screaming at him not to do it #because there was no plausible explanation in that situation to justify a prince bowing to a count’s son #especially to a count’s troublesome son.#And while Alberu is dying inside #Cale is as oblivious as ever to the misunderstandings he causes #simply ignoring the little black dragon perched on his shoulder #who can’t stop speculating about what kind of magic the crown prince used to change his appearance #thinking the whole time about how he doesn’t want to get involved with the crown prince’s dark secrets.#tcf #lcf #trash of the count's family #lout of the count’s family #alberu crossman #tcf alberu #lcf alberu #tcf alver #lcf alver
