IRONY - Character Introduction

Kowari Chiya is a young, sickly boy hidden almost entirely from society, a pale child with albinism whose fragile health keeps him indoors and whose real age is unknown, online he appears as IRONY, a delicate 15 year old with long white hair and light skin. Kowari learned piano when he was very young, and now spends his days composing fragile pieces that blend classical music with the loneliness of his own life. He also plays the violin, finding comfort in its sorrowful voice. Hidden away in his quiet home, he fills his hours with old literature, illustrations and the refined beauty of 1800s European. He adores Europe with a romantic devotion, studying its art and architecture as if it were a homeland he belonged to in another life. Kowari believes deeply in justice of Greek mythology, seeing himself in fragile heroes who fight with intellect rather than strength. Offline, he barely interacts with anyone, living in a delicate state that keeps him hidden from the world. Yet online, his music videos have gained unexpected fame. Viewers are mesmerised by his pale hands drifting across piano keys and the mysterious boy who seems too fragile for the modern world. Some envy him, some romanticise him but Kowari only wants to create beauty while he still can, hoping each note carries a piece of the quiet life he admires.

COUNT - Character Introduction

Ishan Rajan grew up in India feeling like he was always looking at life from the outside, a quiet boy who escaped family conflict by burying himself in anime, concerts and sketchbooks. When he finally moved to Japan to study manga and game art at Kyoto Seika University, he thought he had found the place where he truly belonged, the birthplace of everything that shaped him. However, reality was harsher than the dream. Even though Ishan is fully proficient in Japanese, he faces constant racial abuse both online and off, from classmates who treat him like an outsider to strangers who assume he doesn’t belong in the place he loves. As a vtuber, COUNT, he hides behind a digital avatar, streaming late at night to avoid harassment and pouring his loneliness into his art. He works tirelessly on illustrations and assignments, terrified of failing because staying in Japan is his only escape from the family difficulties waiting back home: expectations he can’t meet, conflicts he can’t fix and a life he refuses to return to. Ishan fears being judged for his skin, his accent, his dreams. He fears that no matter how hard he works, Japan will never fully accept him. Yet he keeps going, because Kyoto’s quiet streets, the glow of anime shops and the sound of Hatsune Miku singing through his headphones remind him why he came: to live inside the world that once saved him and to prove he deserves a place in the culture he loves with his whole heart.

Yui (Previously known as Kage) Nakamura grew up feeling like a ghost in her own home. A quiet, observant child who knew from an early age that the gender everyone insisted she was never fit the person she felt herself becoming. Her parents weren’t cruel, just frightened, hoping it was a phase, while her siblings learned to avoid the subject entirely. By the time she reached adulthood, Yui had transitioned socially but found herself shut out of most opportunities, facing employers who saw her transness as “complicated” and her appearance as “unprofessional.” Unable to secure stable work, she retreated into the only world where she felt powerful... music. Yui built a persona that was equal parts visual‑kei and honesty, producing tracks late at night in her cramped flat, living off small donations from older Japanese men who admired her style, her softness and the vulnerability she never hid. She isn’t proud of relying on their money but she isn’t ashamed either. It’s survival and it’s the only form of validation she receives without judgment. Still, every time she finishes a song, she wonders if she’s creating art or simply trying to prove she deserves to exist. Yui fears being forgotten, fears never escaping the financial trap she’s in and fears that his family will never see her as anything but a complication. Yet she keeps making music and singing as VERDICT an exact version of her, because in those moments, she feels like the world finally listens to her without asking her to be Kage, the person she left behind.

MERIT - Character Introduction

Rui Saitō is a withdrawn young man who hides from the world in his bedroom, living almost entirely through the persona he crafted online: a visual‑kei, gyaru‑styled character - MERIT - who lets him express the femininity he’s too afraid to show in person. Offline, Rui is quiet, anxious, and terrified of disappointing people. He grew up in a family where expectations were spoken softly but carried enormous weight. His father believed in “proper masculinity”, his mother worried endlessly about appearances and his older sister excelled at everything Rui couldn’t: school, friends, confidence. His younger brother learned early to avoid conflict, leaving Rui feeling like the only one who couldn’t adapt. As he grew older, every attempt to socialize left him shaking, convinced he was being judged, mocked or misunderstood. Eventually he stopped going out altogether, becoming a hikikomori who fears crowds, confrontation and even simple conversations. But in the digital world, Rui presents as MERIT, a radiant, cross‑dressing idol with bond wigs, gyaru aesthetic and a beautiful visual‑kei voice. MERIT is everything Rui wishes he could be: confident, expressive, adored. Yet every time he logs off, he’s haunted by the fear that his family would never accept the softness he loves, that his siblings would see him as broken, and that the world only values him when he’s wearing a mask. Rui's story is one of longing, wanting connection but fearing he’ll be rejected for who he truly is, wanting to step outside but unsure if he can survive without the digital persona that protects him.
