Queer Cornley headcanons are making their rounds in the discord again (/pos) so here's mine in depth!
Annie
Pronouns: she/they
Orientation & gender identity: Sapphic nonbinary
- I feel like Annie identifies with being a woman but not strictly a woman. Sometimes their gender feels less binary or sometimes they just feel like they don't have one. It fluctuates for her. As for her sexuality, she just loves women. The reason I don't see her as a lesbian though is because I feel like she can be attracted to men, but it's more of a shallow, purely physical, attraction.
Sandra
Pronouns: she/her
Orientation & gender identity: Bisexual, cis woman
Not much to say about this one, it's just obvious and that's okay lmaoo
Jonathon
Pronouns: he/him
Orientation & gender identity: unlabeled, cis man
Everyone assumes Jonathan is the only cishet in Cornley, and he understands why. He's straight passing and most of his relationships and sexual endeavors have been with women, but he's not not attracted to other genders. He's just kind of into anybody who's into him and prefers not to tie himself to a specific label. Since it wasn't something he explicitly ever made known, the rest of Cornley found out about it when they went to a party together and him and another man were making out in the kitchen and half of the group walked in on it.
Chris
Pronouns: he/him
Orientation & gender identity: bisexual, cis man
Chris struggled a lot with his sexuality in his youth but when he went to uni, he slowly started to become okay with his bi-ness and let himself explore. Nowadays he's very casual and comfortable about his orientation.
Robert
Pronouns: he/him
Orientation & gender identity: a fucking gay mess, cis man
Robert is mlm, he's felt attraction for men for as long as he can remember. He knows this, but it's a big point of discomfort for him due to experiences in his childhood. He's fine with anybody else being queer but when it comes to himself, he's got major internalized homophobia. It does not help that the long-term subject of his attraction is one Chris Bean. He hates the complicated way he feels about Chris. He equally wants to punch Chris in the face as much as he wants to kiss him within an inch of his life. There is a part of him that is genuinely attracted to women, but only in specific circumstances. One of the main reasons Denise left him is because she figured this out, he never really loved her like that. He loved her in other ways though, but the reason that her leaving him affects him so much, is because she was a protective blanket and a comfortable lie. With her out of the picture, the parts of him he was desperately trying to repress are more persistent.
Max
Pronouns: he/him/any
Orientation & gender identity: pansexual, cis(ish) man
Max just loves people, but mostly his sexuality is; Sandra. He's just so madly in love with her. Though, I do think they would have a more open relationship, in terms of physically anyways. Max and Sandra are each other's #1's but they are alright with the other kissing, having hook ups, or other things, with other people; they also will include others in their ~spicy times~
Vanessa
Pronouns: she/her
Orientation & gender identity: lesbian, cis woman
I also don't really have much to add to this, but to me she'd be the epitome of a Useless Lesbian™️ (/aff) Vanessa is madly pining for Annie and vise versa.
"I just think that women." - Vanessa at least once a day
Trevor
Pronouns: he/him
Orientation & gender identity: queer, binary trans man
As a certified trans man*, Trevor is a fucking trans man lmaoo. Just like, look at him. For his orientation, I was torn between gay and queer but ultimately decided on the latter cuz I can just see him working in a lot of different dynamics
Dennis
Pronouns: he/him
Orientation & gender identity: panromantic asexual, cis man
Personally, I just can't see Dennis as allosexual, but romantically, I think he'd be open to all genders
Pirate!Cornley AU Braindump
Crew Positions and tasks
Chris - Captain; navigator, steers, general management, communicator
Robert - First mate; "the muscle." Spends most of his time by Chris' side, backseat captain-ing. In charge of a lot of tasks that require physical strength.
Vanessa- Crew therapist and head chef; also knows how to sew.
Sandra - Master combatant
Max - Look out; helps with physically demanding tasks. The crew's "bird guy."
Annie - Doctor and co-chef; also helps Trevor with his chores.
Trevor - Boatswain and Carpenter; has the most chores out of the whole crew but he sees himself as the only person able to keep the ship functioning.
Johnathon - Sailmaker/tends to the sails; also helps with everything else when he can.
Dennis - Barnacle boy, deck scrubber
Combat skills, best to worst:
Sandra
Strengths: Technique, precision, agility, manipulation.
Info: She learned from a young age what the world expected her to be and how she was "supposed" to behave. She made it her mission to reclaim those stereotypes/expectations and use them to her benefit. She can literally seduce people to death, which has won her the nickname of "The Siren." But if you think for one second that that's all she's capable of, you'll be sorely mistaken. She can be both the kindest and scariest person to exist, sometimes simultaneously.
Weapons of preference: sword and daggers
Annie
Strengths: brutality, well educated on anatomy, can take a hit well and hit back harder, uses a mix of traditional and "dirty" methods.
Info: Similar to Sandra in that she's reclaimed labels to benefit her. She was always seen as scrappy, and somewhat crass and was often treated poorly because of it. She always had multiple interests growing up, one of those being medicine, particularly anatomy.
She knows the most vital/vulnerable areas of the body and will target them with incredible force. Can also be completely unhinged when upset.
Weapons of preference: daggers, gun, or flail
Robert
Strengths: physically strong, brutal, anger issues
Info: He's lacking in technicality and can be bested by more agile/intelligent opponents; that's only if he hasn't severely wounded them already. Likes to fight dirty and intimately, rules are beneath him. His fights are often bloody. He is a good dueler but finds duels boring. Only enjoys sword fighting with Chris but can't place why. He also likes to goad his crew mates into play wrestling with him.
Weapons of preference: his hands/body, always carries a gun
Trevor
Strengths: Above average fighter. Physically pretty strong, can be both brutal and technical. Decently familiar with a variety of weaponry.
Info: Has a tendency to be clumsy which an opponent can use against him. He is short tempered and goes feral in a real fight. He's not afraid to be bloodied up but also doesn't enjoy fighting. When in a fight, he'd like to end it as quickly as possible so he can get back to focusing on his plethora of responsibilities.
Weapon of preference: gun
Max
Strenghts: solid dueler; high stamina, bounces back quickly, finds the fun in it, treats it like a dance- even if it's real combat. Is Sandra's boyfriend.
Info; only slightly better than Johnathon.
Enjoys practicing with Sandra, she always wins. Only really knows how to duel. He doesn't like to use his hands to hurt people if he can help it. He's easily distracted and wounds by accident more often than purposefully.
Weapons of preference: sword, and Sandra.
Johnathon
Strengths: Decent stamina. Works better as support as he can use the fact that he's often overlooked to catch oponents off gaurd. More willing to kill/injur than Max is. Resiliant and able to roll with the punches, often having to make do with the bare minimum.
Info: Average combatant, self taught. Has the potential to be better but seems to be cursed with bad luck. Often gets his sword stuck in surroundings.
Weapon of preference: gun, rarely gets to use one though.
Vanessa
Info and Strengths: Below average at hand to hand combat. Easily frightened. Can hold her own, but not for very long.
Really good at executing pre-made battle plans, but you can't pre-plan for most fights. She's unsuspecting so can make for a good hit woman. Mild tempered and somewhat meek most of the time, only snaps on rare occasions; but when she does, it's terrifying, and often lethal.
She's also one of the main reasons Dennis has stayed alive.
Weapons of preference: ship cannons and poison
Chris
Info and strenghts: definition of "bark is bigger than his bite."
If looks and words could kill- Chris would be at the top of the list, but as that's not the case, this is where he ranks.
What he lacks in combat skill he makes up for by being competent at basically everything else - or at least, being able to carry himself like he is. Robert has attempted to "teach" him on several occasions by starting fights with him but it doesn't help. He prefers to keep physical altercations short, impersonal, and to the point; so he uses a gun. He technically knows how to duel and can act like he's better than he is at it, but that facade is easily breakable.
Weapon of preference: his brain and words.
Dennis
Info and strengths: For the love of God, please keep this man away from a fight!
He only can damage others by accident. Everyone on deck has tried to help Dennis improve his combat skills but have all failed. Max got the closest but Dennis started crying at the thought of hurting him on purpose and they had to stop.
If ever in a fight, he closes his eyes, and swings around a sword, or flail, whilst screaming at the top of his lungs. Surprisingly, and accidentally, he has killed oponents this way. He's good at hiding because he's so small. He also can be used as bait to lull oponents into a false sense of security, but none of his crew mates would actually ever let him die. In fact, him being harmed by any enemies will make the crew go apeshit. Especially Vanessa.
Weapon of preference: PLEASE DO NOT ARM DENNIS
‘Wolf what’s the curiosity project/demon split’
Take Pokémon Blue Rescue Team’s plot, the general setting idea of Fallout, Homestuck quadrants iirc?, smash it with talking animals and furries and humans, add a bit of fucked up scientists, and a dash of weird meta bullshit.
Please note that all aspects of this were first created in like ...2011 which explains. A lot.
Pondering if The Curiosity Project/Demon Split would also be a workable thing to ‘port’ into twine; I’ve had the whole worldbuilding and the plot for years but never actually written it ...
