Part 2
Okay! The Gwent stuff is over with, and I can move on! Starting off where we left off, we move on to the next episode, which is…
…
*groans*
…
Episode 7: The Chefshank Redemption
…
God. DANGIT!!
Welp, we just HAVE to start off this next part with, what I consider to be, the absolute worst episode of the season.
Maybe even out of the whole original trilogy.
Not All Stars or Paketiew bad, but still very much just disgusting, unfunny, miserable to watch garbage.
The ONLY redeeming thing in this episode is the fact that this might be the only episode where Justin actually does something effective as a villain. Other than that, this might be me in my most miserable state when rewriting an episode for this project…
Frankly, I should be thankful I can get it out of the way 7 episodes in instead of dreading it for later down the line.
So…
Let’s dive into this heck of a fix.
We start off the episode with the remainder of the western night, right where we left things off from episode 5.
On a flimsy section of the western set with flickering lights, the Gaffers Duncan, Leshawna, Harold, Heather, and Tyler are hanging out at the cider table. Heather is noticeably away from everyone with her cup, not even drinking it and watching bitterly at the others laughing, specifically Duncan, Tyler, and Leshawna, where Duncan is proclaiming “You know one thing I learned from Juvie was that the drinks don’t actually come from refreshers?”
As he drinks his cider, Leshawna points out “That is disgusting, why would you share that?” To which Duncan answers “Cause the rule is that if you don’t stand for yourself, you’ll get a lot of things to the gut.”
“Like what?” Harold asks, which prompts Duncan to elbow punch him in the gut and get him to spill his cup over his clothes. Duncan then smirks, “Like asking stupid questions.”
“Yeah…” Leshawna gazes at that and nods no, deciding “I’m not taking advice from you Duncan.”
Tyler then looks over the table, calling out “Hey DJ! Are you done with the trays?” Indicating that DJ has been the one in charge of taking care of the beverages.
We then zoom the camera away from the party and onto DJ near the barn, looking over at his friends. Chef then snaps him out of the daze by scoffing that a real man does the work, and saves the ladies for later. Chef is chopping up rotten fruit that he picks up from a garbage can, blending it into the cider, essentially giving the same ‘no more mamas boy’ pep talk to DJ. This is basically that same scene but with the cider instead of the soup from canon.
We cut back to Tyler seeing DJ walk in the barn and out of his sight, where he shrugs and decides “Suit yourself man.”
Harold is walking away towards Heather to deal with his soaked clothes, where he looks over at her and asks “You've been thrown in the bin too?”
“I live there now,” Heather scoffs sarcastically, sighing as she adds “Seems like it, anyway.”
“You know…” Harold tries to be sincere with her, reminding her “If you ever want to talk about something, like back at the river with the whole ‘I was mean and fat in my past’ thing, I’m your guy.”
“My guy would be way more intimidating than you,” Heather scolds, rolling her eyes, “And we don’t talk about that! Okay?! I know exactly what I’m doing here.”
Harold gives an iffy handshake at her, giving a disbelieving look, which triggers Heather as she stands up and scolds him to not look at her like that. Harold doesn’t stop, still staring her down as Heather scoffs at his silence “Look, if you’re trying to make me feel bad for being me, if you’re-if you’re trying to recruit me in an alliance, forget it! I would never surrender to a dweeb like you!”
“You realize how much that phrase has been overused in my life?” Harold asks, still keeping the disbelieved face.
After a few seconds of letting his words, and his eyes sink in, Heather growls, trying to pull her hair to calm herself, only to remember she’s bald. With no other option she takes the cup and throws it in Harold’s face, soaking the guy even more. To that, Harold is only able to mutter “gosh…”
Heather grabs him by the shirt and demands “Okay! You want an alliance? We’re in one! You do what I say, I don’t do that again, and you stop looking down on me! At this point, I will NOT take no for an answer!”
“What if no is my only answer?” Harold asks, which prompts Heather to let go of him and try to come up with an insult, only to be out of them and have her angrily stomp away.
We then get a confessional from Heather where she openly admits “You know what it’s like, living in a bin and trying not to lose challenges cause you KNOW you’ll get a hard boot?! And Harold’s the LAST person I WANT to work with, but he’s the only person I CAN use in this case. If I don’t use someone, then I’m gonna lose more than what’s on my head!” She tries to put something on her head to cover that up, only for the wig to be nothing more than a dead fish. Realizing, she slaps the fish off and yells at the makeup artist in the back that “What do you mean you don’t have a wig?!!”
Tyler comes back over to Duncan and Leshawna, openly asking “Hey, has anyone seen Gwen?” “Gwen?” Duncan asks, where Leshawna tells him “She said she was getting Trent to come join us… I don’t know what’s taking them so long.”
That’s when we cut over to the new moon in the sky, with clouds over the stars preventing any light of comfort. We zoom down to a campfire by the trailers, where Justin is holding Gwen in place on top of a soapbox, where she blankly stares at the other Grips sitting on logs and staring her down, them being the jury, and Gwen being on trial.
After a few seconds of uncomfortable silence, Gwen sighs and asks “What do you want?”
“You should already know that,” Beth scolds, with Lindsey adding “Cheater!”
“What exactly makes me a cheater to you?!” Gwen defends, crossing her arms where Noah raises his hand and declares “I’m calling myself up.”
Noah stands on the other side of the campfire to Gwen, openly asking “So you know the facts of the game, and how things are played between teams?” “I’m surprised you care,” Gwen counters, where Noah proclaims “I don’t.”
Noah continues, explaining that there are two teams, one wins, another loses, teammates look out for each other, enemies prevent each other from winning money. Trent however, has forgotten that… because of Gwen.
“Wait, you know about that?!” Gwen gasps, where Justin steps in to calmly wave Noah away, claiming she needs some space.
“Yeah, we know, it’s not exactly subtle grace,” Justin claims, standing in front of the campfire, saying “And we also know that you two are going behind EVERYONE’S back to help each other, and screw over us. Well now gothie, your boyfriend’s out of the game, you’re on your own now.”
Gwen defends herself, saying back “I will have you know Justin, that I had nothing to do with that. I never asked Trent to throw anything for me, he did that on his own terms, and when I found out, I called him out!”
“And how do we know this isn’t a trick?!” Beth jabs, guilt tripping Gwen by stating “You two thought we were some nobodies on the field, and that your popular good playing team can hog every ounce of camera work! Well as someone who never had a taste of that, I can safely say that you’re in the wrong missy!”
Gwen stands her ground, and openly claims “You want proof that I wasn’t in on it!? I broke up with Trent!”
This causes attention from the others, who are shocked to hear this.
“But…” Lindsey doesn’t get it, asking in confusion “But I thought you two liked each other… you were all gushy and everything last season, why would you-?” She’s cut off by Owen’s loud bawling at the news, crushing Noah in a hug to try and calm down.
“Lindsey, not every couple gets along greatly like ours do,” Beth assures her, where Lindsey asks “Wait, I had a boyfriend?”
Which makes everyone scold in unison “And his name is Tyler!”
Lindsey gives a quick ‘ooooooohhhh…’ before looking over at Beth, recalling her words and asking “Wait, since when were we a thing?”
“No, I have Brady,” Beth corrects, “This guy I met when I got my braces off, we are tight!”
Everyone stares at Beth blankly, with Noah only able to ask “I’m sorry, what?”
“That’s all nice Beth,” Justin gets everyone’s attention, making a charming face as he’s doing so to claim “But let’s not forget why we’re here.”
His charms make everyone but Gwen and Noah stare at him admirably, with Noah in a deadpan voice makes it clear without any stutter “Even if Gwen thinks she has nothing to do with it, Trent only started throwing challenges because he was attached to her, wants her to win, wants us left in the dust, and with our current track record foiled because of him, the very person who caused that is technically none other than Gwen.”
No one has any idea of a word he said.
“Thank you!” Justin says, who only half heartedly listened, and thus adds “Whatever you just said.”
Noah claims cynically, “It’s called being an executive.”
Justin ignores him, looking over at Gwen, who is left shocked at their words. “Guys…” she tries to defend, clearly lingering “I am so sorry about what Trent did to you, really, I am. But you can’t just blame me for this-”
“Actually, we can.” Justin cuts her off, “Look at the facts Gwen, this whole thing started because you put all your attention onto him, and left us in the dust. I’m pretty sure even Heather doesn’t go that low.”
“Trust me, she does,” Gwen counters, edge to her voice at the stretchy comparison, “And you shouldn’t compare me to her, when I stopped her!”
“Uh… I’m pretty sure we stopped her together,” Owen says, where Gwen is left silent at that, realizing he’s right.
“Owen, I didn’t mean it like that-” Gwen tries to stammer, only to see Owen looking away, guilttripping her.
With nothing else left for her to say, Justin proclaims “I declare Gwen, the team captain of the Screaming Gaffers, GUILTY. AS CHARGED.”
“I’m sorry, okay?!” Gwen exclaims at them, “But you can’t just throw me in jail!”
“That’s not what we’re sentencing,” Beth says, where Justin goes on to tell Gwen “You have to pay us back. And since Trent’s gone, you have to help us, pay us with a victory.”
Gwen processes his words, seeing that he’s trying to charm her and she only is able to realize what he’s saying, and goes “What?!”
To that, Justin makes it clear “Next challenge. The Killer Grips are gonna win it. Because YOU’RE gonna give it to us.”
“NO!” Gwen immediately shoots down, “You CANNOT make me throw a challenge for you guys, even if I feel bad for you, who do you think I am?!”
“An introvert dressed in black going around and breaking guy’s hearts?” Lindsey answers, which makes the others smile and nod yes to that.
Owen assures her “We’re your friends, Gwen, or we try to be, if we weren’t on different teams in a game show.”
This stuns Gwen, enough for her to be caught in Justin staring her down, seducing her as he casually proclaims “And unless you throw us the challenge, we can go ahead and tell your team what happened, they’ll also blame you, and then they’ll hate you, and you’ll lose all your chances at a million bucks…”
Gwen has nothing left to say, only able to look over her shoulder in complete guilt.
To her reaction, Justin grins sinisterly, asking her “So what’s it gonna be?”
We don’t hear her answer, instead we cut back to the cider party with the other Gaffers laughing at each other.
Leshawna looks over to see Gwen walking up to them, waving over at her and greeting her. She notices Gwen still looking sad, and she openly asks what’s wrong. Gwen takes a breath, unsure what to say. She does say a bit of truth in her answer, telling everyone “Trent’s not coming guys… he’s not in the game anymore.”
“Ouch… sorry girl,” Tyler says, where Duncan replies “Out of all the people the Grips could have eliminated tonight, they chose your guy. That sucks.”
“Makes sense to me,” Heather openly admits, smirking at Gwen to mock “The guy was gullible.”
Leshawna scolds “You can shut it, Heather! Can’t you see she’s not in the mood for you?”
“She’s in the perfect mood for me, what are you talking about?” Heather counters, which makes Gwen snarl at her.
Duncan brushes the whole thing off, handing Gwen a cup as he openly states “Look, we’re all sad Trent’s gone, but we also came here for a lame party, so how about we Gaffers put a toast for the dude, okay?”
He grins at Gwen in sincerity, making Gwen smile as she decides “Sure, sounds good.”
“For Trent!” Gwen raises her cup and drinks it…
Only to spit it back out.
“This is grease!!” Gwen is able to mutter as she tries to brush it off her tongue with her fingers. “Oh no…” Duncan realizes, clearly guilty of that, “I’m sorry, I-I got the wrong one, that was meant for Harold.”
“Yeah like I’d fall for that again,” Harold scolds in the back, which prompts Gwen to punch Duncan in the arm and scold “You jerk!!”
She still laughs that off, where the other Gaffers join in on that and enjoy the rest of the night.
We then cut to nighttime at the trailers, with the moon now a crescent, indicating it’s been a few days. Chris and Chef are outside with their police and military outfits on, laughing at each other as they press something on Chris’s phone.
Inside the girls cabin, all of them are asleep, with the exception of Gwen simply laying in bed gripping a nervous stomach. She’s unable to shake it off and sits up in stress, her eyes clearly having bags. She glances at a photo by her bedside, one of her on a bench with Trent, who is holding his guitar, the two smiling happily.
Gwen then has a confessional while she’s still in her pajamas and exhausted, needing to get it off her chest, “Ever since Trent left the game, my time here’s been a mess… no sleep, that grease made me sick, Heather’s somehow still here… and now the Grips are watching me like a hawk?! Are they watching me now?!” Justin is shown in the back spying on her, where Gwen can’t see and only admits “Now I’m just asking for karma to bite me in the butt and screw me over in this show… and it starts tomorrow, can’t wait.”
After the confessional, Gwen looks up at the trailer door…
And several bars show up around it, locking over the door, and all the windows, imprisoning everyone.
The other girls wake up shocked at this, Lindsey even falling out of bed. Gwen is the first to jump up since she was already awake, and Heather openly asks in frustration what Gwen did.
We then cut over to the guys, who are having the same reaction to being locked in. Duncan is trying to pull the door open, banging on it and screaming “Is this a joke, if it is, it’s not funny!! I signed on to get AWAY from Juvie! You can’t do this to me, Maclean!!”
Tyler is by a window, using his teeth to try and break a flimsy bar, only for the chair he’s standing on to drop him and break his teeth. “Yeah…” he mutters despite his pain, “That’s a no for the windows too.”
From there, the scene is mostly untouched, starting from where Duncan asks for help with the door. A tweak here where Noah denies before Justin, claiming that brutalizing doors are not his strong suit. Plus, DJ is with them, even if he doesn’t say anything. Other than those, this scene is completely untouched.
Same goes for the girls trying to bust things open, however we don’t get anything involving the trapdoors on the ceiling, because right after Lindsey thanks Heather, the door is busted open with Chef appearing by the steps with a flashlight and several pairs of handcuffs. He openly demands for them to come out with their hands up, and in fear, they all oblige.
Chris and Chef come out with every camper in handcuffs, and Chris from there openly explains how this episode's theme is prison, which is untouched. There’s only one tweak here with Harold’s confessional, where he says “I should be locked up for Leshawna’s sake” instead of “The ladies’ sake” because as I said last part, Harold isn’t attracted to Heather in this rewrite, given Leshawna is already enough of a focus for him. (Not saying Harold doesn’t have anything else going for him, far from it, as I have plans for him, but the Heather attraction stuff was just pointless through and through)
From there, we go to lockdown where both teams are forced to decide each other's prisoner. Just like in canon, the Gaffers choose Lindsey, but without Chris rubbing in the Grip’s losing streak, (cause it’s not necessary) the Grips choose Gwen. The wink from Beth indicates to Gwen that not only do they want her to pay them up, but also that they know about the grease incident and how easily she’ll fail even if she tries to get out of their deal. (remember, Justin caught her confessional where she mentioned the grease)
From there, the challenge goes on as an eating contest where teams have to make food out of the garbage for the opposite team in the hopes that they will be eliminated. There are some tweaks, like Beth and Duncan trying to comfort their teammates, Beth telling Lindsey it will be easy thanks to you know who, and Duncan giving Gwen quick advice on how to manage claustrophobia from his experience in solitary confinement, which doesn’t calm Gwen (because it makes her question that Duncan was in that), but she appreciates his attempt. There’s another difference here with Gwen’s confessional and what she says there, where she openly expresses that at least she could ‘throw’ the challenge without even trying in this case, sure Lindsey had that shampoo incident but after a lack of sleep and grease getting in her system, Gwen believes that she was doomed to fail, ending the confessional with “Thanks karma, for ruining my chances like this.”
But yeah, with the exception of the end result of this challenge, this is untouched. SURPRISINGLY. (Yes this scene is disgusting and hard to watch, but you can say the same things about a lot of Total Drama episodes, and for me at least, there are worse ones than this)
The result however is different, as GWEN is the one who pukes at the Beth brace, but clearly forcing it out. Which means that technically the Grips get the shovel, not the Gaffers. However there is another tweak in the dialogue after where Lindsey instead happily thanks Gwen, not sarcastically.
After the DJ and Chef scene (which is untouched, with the exception of the context that DJ DID let the team down, not ‘he could’ve’) we move on to the next part of the challenge.
The challenge rules are pretty much the same, only Gwen actually allows DJ to push the cart. (Why? Because she believes that since the Grips have the shovel, she’s done enough on her part) Heather in response to this, asks “You’re gonna trust her? After she blew us the advantage?”
Gwen hesitates to respond to that, her eyes darting to the side to see Justin winking at her. “What?!” she argues with Heather, “You think I barfed on purpose?!”
“I think you’re just being pathetic,” Heather claims, smirking at Gwen to add “That’s all.”
Leshawna scolds Heather, but her words get to DJ and he decides not to do it, making Tyler volunteer instead.
With that, we get a Tyler confessional. “It was an honor to be taking that role for the team, it’s one step closer to getting in an Olympics one day, from failing every fitness test in school to doing something honorable.”
For the Grips, Owen doesn’t make the same excuses, but is weary about the idea of pushing four people.
“Big guy, if the jock wannabe can do it, anyone can,” Noah proclaims in encouragement, but Lindsey realizing that Tyler’s in this, looks over at him where the guy gives her a friendly wave.
After that cute exchange, Justin argues with Noah that Owen won’t have the stamina to make it, where Noah argues back that if Owen is in the cart, it’ll be much more weight than what the Gaffers have.
“With their pusher?” Justin decides, prompting Beth and Lindsey to ask what Justin’s plan is, and he gives the suggestion of Lindsey since she won the past challenge. Noah tries to speak up about that, only for Justin to put a hand over the boy’s mouth, no one helping him, not even Owen as he is also entranced by Justin’s ideas.
There’s then an Owen confessional, where he openly admits “I know Noah and I are buddies now, and he said not to pay attention to the guy… but man is Justin such a great strategist AND is a better looking guy to be the leader of an alliance!” He realizes his words and awkwardly mutters “I hope Noah doesn’t get too upset with me saying that…”
After that is a quick Justin confessional where he’s only gazing at himself in a hand mirror. He looks over at the camera and smirks, asking “What? No one said you had to get your hands dirty to win.” To that, he takes a black cloth on the table and cuts it apart with scissors. (Guess what that means)
Lastly there’s a confessional from Noah, who openly admits “Sure people. Listen to the good looking guy INSTEAD of the guy who was in student council for three years. I mean, okay, from my experience, you may NOT have to get your hands dirty to win, but you also can’t be as attached as Gwen. Especially when Justin is the textbook example of a sabotager… I’m kind of jealous.” He realizes his last part, only to realize what he said as he threatens the camera “If you show that last part, I will gladly-” It’s cut off before we hear what he said.
We then start the race.
Just like in the original, the Gaffers are able to move further ahead with less weight on their hands, only since Tyler is pushing he does get some setbacks from being hit by a punching bag and Heather nearly falling off from a hit if it wasn’t for DJ helping her stay on. The Grips however aren’t able to do anything, thus Beth decides to taunt Gwen “I thought you changed Gwen, I thought you cared about us, but I guess you weren’t even good enough for Trent!”
With this echoing in Gwen’s head, she pulls out a pin from Leshawna’s hair without her noticing, calling out for Tyler to look out. She throws the pin at one of the police stands, and an arm there whacks Tyler smack in the groin, stunning him and allowing the Grips to pass by. Heather yells at Tyler to keep going, only for Gwen to assure her that it’s not a big deal if he slips up, the worst thing that can happen is that they lose.
Heather doesn’t buy it, and realizes “Did you and the Grips have a deal?” “Why would you think I’d do that?!” Gwen snarls, where Heather taunts back “Because Trent was on their team, and he was booted off last time, where you were late to the cider party that night… you can’t fool me.”
“Gwen would never!” Leshawna demands, standing up for her to say “We’re here to win, and only a moron would do something like that!” This gets under Gwen’s skin, even as Duncan protects her and claims “She can do what she wants, and if she’s minding her business, you should too.”
With that, Tyler gets up again and continues, where just like in canon, both teams are forced to dig down to escape. Only here, the Grips have the shovel and the Gaffers have the spoons. Just like in canon, Justin doesn’t help, due to the fact that Gwen is throwing the game.
With the Gaffers, using spoons is making things more difficult, but due to the Grip’s laziness, they are starting to get ahead. Gwen comes to the front to help out Leshawna, where the latter apologizes for the whole Trent thing if it’s getting in her head.
Gwen brushes it off that it’s not a big deal, as they’re here to win, and Leshawna agrees with that. Gwen decides to hand Leshawna back her pin, and Leshawna takes it, but hesitates when she wonders where Gwen got it.
Gwen makes the excuse that it fell out of the cart, and Leshawna tries to take that for an answer. However with the spoons, Leshawna groans “At this rate, we’re never gonna make it in time!”
This is where we get a hand breaking out of the dirt wall, revealing none other than IZZY,
who was living underground.
Just like in canon, she offers them a shortcut to the finish line, only for Heather and Gwen to say in unison a denial, which makes them both ask in unison
“What?!”
“No-”
“I mean-”
“We can’t-”
“Trust her…”
“Oh forget it, let’s get this over with!” Gwen decides, followed up by her confessional about how if she didn’t the Gaffers would know, and they’d hate her. Justin already kept his word that he wouldn’t tell them.
However, the results are the same, as the Grips had already won by the time the Gaffers escaped.
As well as the addition that Izzy has returned to the game on the Grips once more. (though without the flashback, it’s not necessary)
We then cut to the cafeteria, where Owen is flirting with Izzy. Noah is sitting next to Owen, and after the same flirt as canon, Owen mentions the ‘little companion’ he made after she left, and though Noah’s hesitant and tries to speak against it, Owen invites Izzy to join them in their alliance. Izzy instantly agrees with that, since she worked with Noah back in the Island, but after gazing at the other girls admiring Justin, Noah only has one requirement.
“Do you think Justin is attractive?”
To which Izzy answers, “Not at all, why?”
And thus, Noah decides “You’re in.”
Heather comes up to Justin, who looks over to ask “Something you want?”
“Yes I do,” Heather proclaims “What’s the deal with Gwen? She’s uh… she’s a little off her game today.”
“Gwen?” Justin asks, looking over to see the Gaffers in the corner as he says with exclamation “Oh, nothing, only SHE THREW THE CHALLENGE FOR US”
This stuns everyone, making some people spit out their food. Gwen especially is shocked, given this wasn’t part of their deal.
Gwen admits that in a confessional, that THIS is the karma she receives… Justin PROMISED that if she threw them the challenge, he would keep it a secret from the other Gaffers. She did what he asked… and now he just told everyone anyway. “Can you say COLD?!”
“Oh wow…” Heather can only mutter, grinning as she claims “I thought that would be harder to get out.”
“You can’t prove anything!!” Gwen tries to shout, standing up for herself.
“Oh can we Gwen?!” Heather looks over at her as she’s standing up from the table, “Then why were you late on coming to the cider party?”
“I told you, I was getting Trent, only to find he was eliminated!” Gwen defends, where Heather doesn’t buy that and proclaims “Oh and it takes your goth face THAT LONG to mourn the loss of your guy? I thought you were too cool for that.”
“I said no such thing!” Gwen proclaims, “You really think I would go behind your back so pathetically?!”
That’s when the Grips all say in unison “YOU DID.”
“You can stop, Heather!” Leshawna stands up, trying to defend Gwen though wavering herself “Gwen would never do that, they’re lying! We’re here to win! This is a play to make us go against her! I’ve seen it from you.”
Gwen smirks, though lingering and breaking harder, “Yeah, Heather. Even if you were right, no one would believe you.”
“See?” Leshawna decides, only for a pin to fall off her hair. She catches it in her hand, but looks at it in confusion, slowly realizing as she remembers the challenge.
DJ is calming Gwen down by giving her his plate, expressing forgiveness in her. Gwen thanks him, only for her joy to end when Leshawna asks quietly “Are they right?”
Gwen is stunned, shaking, as she looks up to see Leshawna’s eyes turning blank and cold. Leshawna asks again, her voice raising “Did you throw the challenge?!”
Gwen is left speechless, with all her teammates staring at her in fury, to the point where she’s completely guilt tripped from the sight. Gwen isn’t able to answer, only stressed enough that she grips her mouth and runs outside the tent, the others following her.
In the background, Justin is smiling at last season’s runner up completely crippled, thanks to him.
After Gwen is finished vomiting from a nearby trash can, Duncan and DJ grasp onto her back to try and help her. The other Gaffers aren’t that forgiving though.
“Why?!” Leshawna exclaims to her, “Why would you do that?! I thought you were better than this!!”
Harold tries to comfort Leshawna that it’s not a big deal, only for Heather to pull the string bean back and shut him up.
“Cats out of the bag,” Heather claims “Gwen’s a traitor. We should get rid of her.”
“It’s just a stupid game, Heather, give her a break,” Duncan claims, where Heather argues back “What?! You WANT to get screwed over by this prick?!” Duncan stands up and turns to Heather, snapping “I SAID GIVE HER A BREAK!”
“No, she’s right…” Gwen claims, still on the ground from getting sick, “She’s right, I-I don’t deserve to be here.”
Heather proclaims, “Yeah, you don’t, I tried to tell you guys since season one, and now you finally believe me!”
“I don’t side with you either!” Leshawna makes that clear to Heather, then pointing at Gwen in heartbroken betrayal (which will be explained later this rewrite why Leshawna would say the following stuff in this scene)
To Gwen, Leshawna proclaims “I came here to win, and so did you! Do you have any idea how mortifying it is to find out that YOUR TEAM CAPTAIN, has been working as a slave to the OTHER team and you’re being screwed over from that?!”
“I didn’t want to oblige!” Gwen defends, “They forced me to!”
“And you LET THEM!” Leshawna counters, where DJ tries to calm them down, only for Leshawna to continue shouting at Gwen that there isn’t an excuse for this, them briefly shouting over each other and Gwen being pinned to the trash can.
“And I’m not asking for one!” Gwen makes it clear, where Heather proclaims “Oh heck no, you wouldn’t deserve one even if you asked!”
“I mean… at least she’s apologizing,” Harold speaks up, only for Heather to demand he backs up.
“Wait, YOU hit me in the kiwis!” Tyler realizes, crossing his arms to turn away from her. Duncan defends, “Happens to everyone Tyler, shake it off! Do you really think she intended that?!”
“Leshawna, please…” Gwen begs, “Guys… I’m sorry, I-I was used, clearly I WAS USED, I wouldn’t ever go against you on my own free will, we’re friends!”
“Yeah, I thought you were,” Leshawna says, where Gwen argues back “Oh, and I guess your current friends are better?”
“You could say the same thing girl,” Leshawna scolds, where the two continue arguing over each other briefly. Leshawna brings up that she plays nice for a reason, and Gwen counters that she ‘plays nice’ because it’s herself, Gwen mentions that she and Trent broke up and she was mourning, only for Leshawna to counter that it’s not an excuse to turn on everyone else, where Gwen argues back “Like how you dumped Harold?!”
“That was a choice!” Leshawna claims, where Harold looks away distraught, only to be enlightened when Leshawna adds “And at least I’m still here for him…” She turns to Gwen and adds “UNLIKE YOU.”
“AND YOU PEOPLE… ARE THE ONLY…” Gwen tries to shout, only for tears to fill her eyes as she tries to get the sentence out, only to realize she can’t as she trails off,
“You guys are the ONE good thing that’s ever happened to me in this show and now it’s… it’s… sorry I can’t explain it any better than that…” she laughs at herself through her tears, adding “...I’m such a LOSER in your books…”
DJ hugs her tight as she loses her words, claiming he forgives her. Leshawna watches this, looking guilty for lashing out at Gwen. She tries to reach out, only for Heather to grab her wrist and claim they should vote her off.
“Go ahead…” Gwen claims under her tears, “Vote me off, I don’t care. I don’t care about this show.”
Leshawna shakes off Heather, where Tyler, Heather, and Harold (being gripped and forced to by Heather) turn their backs at Gwen and leave her.
Leshawna hesitates, only to wince and decide to turn away, proclaiming before she leaves “The thing is… being a loser is something that happens to the best of us.”
The other Gaffers go back in the tent, only for Gwen, DJ, and Duncan to overhear Chris exclaim “Izzy?! What are you-?! You’re out!”
Back in the tent, Izzy happily proclaims “Uh… yeah, thing is, you didn’t eliminate me, you eliminated Kaleidoscope.”
“Oh no, I’m not allowing that-?” Chris tries to say, only for a camera guy to hand him a script, where he reads it and claims “What do you mean we’re out of airing time?! Are you-?!”
After a few muffles from the camera man, Chris tries to argue that NO, he’s NOT cutting this juicy drama from the episode, it’ll get bad ratings if he cuts it, and after a few more muffles, he’s left to sigh as he announces to the Gaffers “Good news Gaffers, you just got lucky. We ran out of air time to eliminate someone.”
To which Tyler, Leshawna, and Heather groan at to protest.
We then get a Leshawna confessional, where she openly admits “Okay okay, I regret yelling at Gwen like that, but I AM right. Not saying Heather is, but I am. Maybe I did see Gwen as more than an ally in the past… but even casual friends don’t betray each other like that, they just don’t.”
We then cut to a Heather confessional, where she’s furious at this “That’s just GREAT. The one chance I get to eliminate her, and she GETS AWAY WITH IT?!” She smirks anyway, deciding “Ah well, at least the majority of the team are against her, I can live with that.”
The other three Gaffers overhear this news, where Gwen stomps in and tries to protest “No! No, that’s… I HAVE to go home! I can’t deal with this-!”
“Oh but you can,” Chris smirks, where Gwen scoffs “You just want me to suffer, don’t you?”
To which Chris smirks and admits “Maybe.”
Gwen angrily screams at him and stomps out of the tent, where Chris stammers “What?! I need good ratings for this show to get paid!”
Once Gwen’s back out, Duncan smirks and gives her a thumbs up, proclaiming “NICE game gal!”
“I…” Gwen trails off, only to look at Duncan and realize “Wait, you’re NOT mad at me?”
“What? Oh no I’m FURIOUS,” Duncan claims, only to add “At Heather for taking this game seriously. I could care less what you do, I’ve done worse.”
“Oh bet,” Gwen counters, where Duncan claims “Gladly, ever been in prison?”
“Why yes actually, it’s where I’m staying tonight,” Gwen claims, when the DJ comes in to say “Thing is, you better make it up to them…”
Gwen sighs at herself, deciding “Trust me DJ, I was better off solo anyway, it was easier.”
“If you’re solo, I’m solo,” Duncan claims, where Gwen smiles and proclaims “Keep telling yourself that.”
With that, Chris explains how much drama that seemed even without an elimination, but he does appreciate there being drama and how much money he gets from this goth. As he explains this, asking what’s with the raft between the Grips, and will Gwen be back to her loner goth state, we get a few shots of Noah Owen and Izzy walking away from the other Grips, Noah having to pull Owen along and away from Justin, as well as Gwen being locked out of the girls trailer, prompting her to decide to sleep in one of the cages on the prison set. Where she believes she belongs…
…
And before we continue, THIS is where the elimination order starts to change from canon.
I STRUGGLED with choosing whether or not I should keep Gwen’s elimination or keep her around to be eliminated later down the line, it kept going back and forth. I could not decide for the longest time.
And I know some of you are going to argue in the reply section that I should have kept her original elimination in this episode. I’ll be free to hear that out, but do know one argument I don’t agree with is that Gwen gets too much screen time in Island and therefore needs to be out early in Action. You can say the exact same argument about Duncan, a character who gets even more screen time than ANY other character, has made the merge EVERY SEASON, and yet no one seems to care about that. There’s also Heather making it as far as she does in canon in this season, Courtney being brought back in canon for fan service (which I actually liked the idea) and also Owen coming back in canon for fan service, you get my point.
Plus, I can name QUITE A FEW number of episodes in Island where Gwen had little to NO focus (2, 4, 6, 9, 10, 12-ish, 14, 15, 17, 18, and 22, to name) .
I don't really agree with this argument.
But while I do feel like I made the right choice keeping her, under different circumstances, I might have changed that.
Originally, in the first draft of this rewrite, I DID keep Gwen’s canon elimination, and believed that with her gone early, it benefited other characters.
While that IS true… after editing, looking at a lot of Action reviews for ideas, realizing that Gwen is kind of unphased by her canon elimination because BEING IN THE GAME is torture for her, and having to watch this garbage episode multiple times, PLUS what I set up in the previous part of this rewrite, I REALIZED that with Gwen’s kind of character, and the fact that in the original she had nothing to do BUT break up with Trent, causing her actions in World Tour to feel swallow and forced, her character would actually BENEFIT for her, and be a better PUNISHMENT, a better ARC progression, for her to STAY in the game longer and be forced to deal with this.
Not saying I intend for her to hog the spotlight though, as she’s STILL going to be getting 12th place in this rewrite as she did in Action (SPOILERS), so bear with me in this. And after this part of the rewrite is done, I think you’ll all know what episode specifically I plan to remove her.
So… BACK TO THE ACTION.
Episode 8: One Flu Over The Cuckoos
Episode 8 begins with the evening of another day (NOT right after the events of last episode) where Izzy laments how small everything seems. The only tweaks needed here are that Gwen, after Duncan’s phrase, claims “I told you a million times, I didn’t WANT to deal with them, they FORCED me to!” And everyone walks away from her. Other than that, this scene, as well as Chris giving them the books, and the confessionals, are completely untouched.
Same goes for the pizza night, and the DJ and Chef scene.
From there, we start our pizza night with all the campers. The Justin and Beth bit is untouched. Noah is with Owen and Izzy, and when Izzy gets the sauce everywhere and onto people, Noah sarcastically comments on top of everyone else “My sanity.”
After Izzy and Owen have their untouched confessionals, Noah tries to get the attention of his allies to claim “Okay so now that this is out of the way and we all have to do laundry, let’s continue…” He picks up his book to study with them, asking “What is the cure to nausea?”
Owen answers, “Love,” referring to Izzy.
“Trust me pal, love is the answer in fantasies only,” Noah proclaims, flipping the pages to add “I am so glad I don’t know what that is.”
(Which of course, this line would later turn to IRONY)
Justin teases, “Aw, what’s wrong Noah? Don’t have any friends?”
“Just because I don’t have friends doesn’t mean I slack off a council campaign,” Noah defends, picking up a pizza to eat it, only to realize it’s pepperoni. He spits out his bite and then asks “Okay, who ate the plain cheese?”
To his surprise, Owen takes out a spare box still filled with plain cheese pizza, stunning Noah. “I had to block out my brain to not eat this for you buddy,” Owen claims, smiling as he states “I studied your taste buds.”
Noah isn’t sure what to say, even as he takes a slice, watching Owen take one of his own and pop it in his mouth with no issue. “Thanks…” Noah is only able to say as he takes a bite of his pizza and continues studying the book.
We then get a confessional from Noah where he’s still studying the book, but admits “I will be honest, Owen is crazy and a ton, but I never thought he’d actually oblige with a guy with resentment for pepperoni… it’s kind of nice to have a guy actually get to know you outside of your job.”
Five of the seven Gaffers (all but Gwen pretty much) are in the tent eating theirs, and this is for the most part untouched except for one BIG part that I’m adding.
After Leshawna’s confessional, it’s shown she also has a photograph next to the book, one of her family, all of them dressed in rich elegant clothing, which contains of herself with her afro hair, her parents, and her older sister Leshaniqua. (Yes, I’m making this throwaway character a sister instead of a cousin, deal with it.)
As Duncan throws the pizza over to DJ, Leshawna moves the photo out of the way and saves it before sauce can fall on it. She scolds them to be careful, but seeing the photo makes Harold ask what it is.
“It’s me and my peeps at home,” Leshawna answers, showing him the photo. She points at the figures to explain her mama, papa, and her sister, who she briefly mentions has been in college for three years now. Harold smirks at her hair, prompting Leshawna to scold calmly that they don’t talk about that.
Harold instead says he likes it, which earns a blush from Leshawna.
“Yeah, well…” Leshawna brushes it off and takes back the photo, saying “Wealthy folks expect a wealthy appearance from their kids, and for them to win games.”
With that, Leshawna leaves, with Duncan following right behind her. However I am cutting out Heather’s confessional, because there is no point in what she says there.
We cut to Gwen sitting by a tree with her own pizza away from everyone else, minding her own business. She sees Leshawna and Duncan walk by, and she looks away, ready to get up and leave.
She has a confessional where she decides to admit “Duncan may be cool, but I really enraged Leshawna… I admit, it’s ALL my fault, I just… I don’t know how to make it up to her. Or if I should at all.”
Justin then shows up by her to ask how the pizza is, but Gwen gives him the cold shoulder. Justin tries to block her path and tell her not to be like that, as it’s no big deal if the team hates her, she can fend for herself, can’t she?
Gwen doesn’t listen to him, and bitterly asks “Is that what I am to you? A loner and a pawn?!”
“You know, you can always join us if they don’t want you,” Justin asks, trying to be nice, only for Gwen to shove her pizza box in his chest and scold “You want to talk about me fending for myself? Do it yourself, I’m done with you.”
She shoves him out of the way, and Justin is only able to mutter “So that’s why she left them…”
Justin has his own confessional, where he says that Gwen deserved to be betrayed, maybe even eliminated if it weren’t for sheer luck. “But do I feel bad? Absolutely NOT, she’s a jerk on her own terms, and that’s the only respect I’ll give. She’s unattractive by choice, I on the other hand actually put in the effort to keep my lips smooth after eating.”
Gwen walks by, accidentally running into Leshawna and Duncan. Duncan greets her, but Leshawna tries to give her the cold shoulder. Gwen tries to call after her, only for Leshawna to claim that whatever she has to say, she’s not listening.
Duncan tries to put a hand on Gwen’s shoulder in comfort, only for Gwen to put it off and leave, with Duncan calling out to her and wondering “Was it something I said?”
We then move on to the challenge itself, where it’s, for the most part, untouched in explanation. There is one tweak when talking about the ‘all for one’ thing, where after Heather’s confessional, Gwen claims she can live with that. “Well at least you admit it,” Leshawna mutters when looking away from her. Other than that, this is completely untouched.
Beth’s, Heather’s, and Owen’s rounds are untouched completely. Tyler does DJ’s part instead with similar results, and Lindsey gets her answer wrong. The montage is pretty good afterwards, only Noah has Owen’s heartbeat part, where he deadpannedly tells Chris “You’re a sociopath with mental health problems and should see a professional.”
Gwen does what was originally Heather’s second time in the pool, and she has the same results of obtaining the hand.
From there, we have Duncan depantsing Harold like in canon, and Leshawna tries to separate them. This is, for the most part, the same scene with Leshawna trying to recruit Harold and Duncan in an alliance, but Harold refuses. But I am adding a bit here, one is that Harold, HERE, makes it clear that if it was just him and Leshawna, it would be a yes, a hundred billion times yes, but with Duncan? That’ll never work. Heather makes the proclamation that Harold’s with her, and she drags him away, which shocks Leshawna, even after Harold makes it clear “I never wanted to oblige!”
Gwen also, from the pool, offers Leshawna to take Harold’s place, only for Leshawna to tell her to save it.
It’s untouched from there on out, both teams assemble their bodies, they start to raise them, only for Owen to show signs of a fatal disease, and Chris locks them in to be exposed to covid… I mean… ‘Moretotestico crumbles disease…’ (Pretty sure a doctor Youtuber reacted to this episode and said this disease was made up, so…)… okay.
Next time we cut to the campers after the Chris moment, Owen is already in the bubble as the others try to figure out what to do. Noah is leaning against the wall with the book next to Owen, and Owen asks for his help, where Noah stammers that he’s trying to help, he’s just trying to figure out some magic cure, he’s NEVER heard of this disease before.
“Wait, I thought you said there was no such thing as a magic cure,” Owen recalls, where Noah only says “I’ll make an exception for you.”
Owen has a confessional where he’s still in the bubble, and claims “Aw… he cares.”
Only for a confessional from Noah to say “I couldn’t lose someone in my alliance like this. Trust me, that’s all it is. This guy’s contagious craziness and care has already infected me.”
They start to panic when DJ also gets a ‘sore,’ and they bubble him up as well. From there, the scene goes mostly untouched, as Harold makes preprocautions to ensure no one else has been infected, with the only tweaks needed are the additions of the rewrite’s extra characters.
Explosive diarrhea for Lindsey.
Peachy lips for Justin.
Dizziness for Noah (who crashed into one of the pools when finding he can’t read the book.)
Sudden heat strokes for Beth.
Nausea for Heather.
Paralyzement for Tyler (who collapses.)
Tongue Twisting for Izzy… (which, you know, that’s just Izzy being herself)
And temporary blindness… for Harold himself.
Everyone but Leshawna, Duncan, and Gwen are comatosed from the disease. After the Duncan and Harold exchange (which is untouched) Leshawna proclaims they have to do something. Duncan makes the assumption that studying caused the disease, only for Gwen to be in a corner and say “Did you forget I was here?” Which de-confirms their suspicion, Leshawna muttering at her presence “At this time, I wish.”
Just like in canon, they agree to try to reach the ceiling and the chains. Duncan doesn’t claim he’s afraid of heights though, because from evidence of his audition tape, and episode 24 of Island… yeah I’m calling bs on that.
Instead he claims that the ducts wouldn’t go anywhere useful, only for Gwen to decide to climb anyway on her own terms. Leshawna asks Gwen what exactly she benefits from helping, and Gwen counters with “Staying alive, thank you?”
The three escape, and Gwen goes with Leshawna to the kitchen for evidence. Leshawna is hesitant about letting her come, but Gwen talks her into it, with the claim that if they don’t search fast enough, Leshawna could lose her boyfriend too. Leshawna proclaims that “He’s not my guy!” chasing after her.
Cutting out Leshawna’s confessional, Duncan briefly in the confessional booth has a scene where he looks into the textbooks, only to throw it away when he feels sweat on his face. He bumps into the camera, and decides that maybe there’s something in the tape that can help…
Leshawna and Gwen are in the tent trying to look into the pizza scraps. It’s an awkward short scene where Gwen tries to apologize to Leshawna once more, mentioning that she broke ties with Justin, only to fail at even saying the word ‘sorry’ when Leshawna completely ignores her.
“I envy you,” Gwen ends up saying, which stuns Leshawna and gets her to say back “Well, you shouldn’t.”
“So you don’t care about our lives, you just care about winning?” Gwen asks, where Leshawna goes “Uh.. we’re in a game show!” “And in that game show, you were booted because you were popular,” Gwen claims, prompting Leshawna to scoff at that and go “And you from experience are pathetic?”
Gwen isn’t sure how to answer that, only deciding “So what if I’m pathetic? That's all I really am now, I don’t even have a point to win anymore.”
Leshawna finally looks over at her shocked, unsure what to take with that logic “‘Don’t have a point to win?!’ Girl, how can you say that?! You wanted to leave the last challenge?”
Gwen replies, “It’s what you wanted, get me out of your face… sorry we both don’t care.”
Leshawna then digs into a nearby phone in the kitchen, going through any evidence she can find. She finds a video of Leshaniqua in the confessional, with a message below and her saying ‘You’re telling me Hatchet, that I can’t see my sister if she doesn’t get the reward? She deserves to win that money, the other teens in your show are pathetic!’
Gwen then mutters her name, prompting Leshawna to turn around and see Gwen rip off the paper of a shaker. The audience can’t see the label yet, only able to see Gwen collapse shortly after, prompting Leshawna to grab her in genuine shock as her ex friend had fallen to the illness as well.
Duncan barges in with a textbook and the confessional tape, only to see Gwen in Leshawna’s arms. He runs over to her, and in a parody-esque scene, Gwen mutters as if she’s dying, “Duncan…
…you have pepperoni on your neck.” Where she then fakes a death and Duncan dramatically screams “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!”
Where he’s slapped on the shoulder by Leshawna who scolds “Get a grip dude! No one’s dying yet!!”
We then cut back to the sick campers in the hospital, where there are some tweaks here in the Justin and Beth bit where after Beth asks for a kiss, Noah covers the pillow on his bed over his head, muttering “Bury me somewhere your graves won’t be.”
Tyler is next to Lindsey, and hearing her moan, Tyler reaches for her hand and grasps it, claiming that at least they die together, and that makes him a happy man. Lindsey is comforted by that, replying “Thanks Taylor.”
To which Tyler happily and calmly corrects “It’s Tyler.”
After Heather writes her will (which is the best part of the canon episode for me) Leshawna and Duncan barge in, Leshawna holding the book and the shakers, and Duncan holding a passed out Gwen in his arms. After Duncan gets diarrhea, he accidentally drops Gwen on the floor, and the audience can hear a bone crack from her after she crashes. “Yeah…” she accepts with a shaky voice “Yeah I deserve that.”
From there, the scene is completely untouched, as Leshawna explains the fraudness of the textbooks, and that they were poisoned with the pizza, thus everyone is cured, and the Gaffers win the challenge.
So basically, the diagnosis is that Chris is a psychopath.
(Oh wait, that’s typical, nevermind.)
From there, we get Leshawna trying again by allying herself with Duncan and Harold, and them both refusing. There are some changes here, such as Harold’s confessional is the end of the alliance conversation, and now Duncan figuring out Harold’s middle name actually makes sense.
(Oh yeah, I just briefly wanted to say that Harold might actually be one of the only characters with a cannon full name, and it’s… ‘Harold Norbert Cheever Doris McGraddy the 5th’ A) Who gives their kid that long of a name? And also… the 5th. THE FIFTH. There’s Four more Harold’s out there in the world?! That’s kind of scary)
Chris mentions that the reward is a trip to the spa with a guest, Leshaniqua, who has an honors degree and is a well known business woman in college. With the suggestion that ‘maybe the camper can learn a thing or two about being famous.’
Upon hearing her sister is here, the remainder of the scene is completely untouched, as Leshawna fake cries to convince everyone to give her the reward.
Upon reuniting with Leshaniqua at the limo, Leshawna expresses how it’s been years since she’s seen her. Leshaniqua is grateful to see her as well, but is confused about her crying like a baby considering she never cries, and Leshawna makes it clear that it was an act so she can see her again. To that, Leshaniqua is proud of her for taking her advice, and with this attitude, she can win this and be just as famous as the rest of them.
Leshawna in response, claims “Well with THAT kind of competition, I think I’ve already proved enough.”
Overhearing this, Chris makes his same speech, only instead of staying in the camera room with him, as he makes the speech, we get a brief clip of the guys trailer, where Duncan kicks over Harold, the camera showing that Duncan had soaked Harold’s bed with the liquid from the hospital where the soaked parts spell “Goodnight Doris.”
Harold leaves the trailer in frustration, and is invited by the girls to sleep with them, Heather shrieking when seeing he’s filled one of her spare bunks for a night.
Right as Chris claims ‘Tune in next time,’ we cut back to his face, and from there, the episode ends as normal.
…
And also for another brief commentary and a bit of a rant on this for canon. The point of introducing a major character’s family member is to have that character reveal or establish something about the major character’s background and flesh them out. In canon, what exactly did we learn about Leshawna through Leshaniqua??
That she has a cousin.
That’s it.
I mean, good god was this such a wasted opportunity, and a fun one to dive into at the same time. Yeah I know it’s a little weird to be giving Leshawna of all characters a backstory like this, but the canon show introduced this badly designed cousin character, gave me the opportunity, they established nothing, so I felt justified in giving Leshawna the backstory that I did here.
So anyway… again… BACK TO THE ACTION!
Episode 9: The Sand Witch Project
Episode 9 opens with every camper (with the exception of Gwen) playing cards by the trailer grounds. Owen peeks at Izzy’s cards, which drives a scold from Noah, who asks “Does the value of fair play mean nothing to you people?” Prompting Izzy to steal and shuffle all of their cards. Harold’s confessional about such is untouched.
Lindsey lamenses about how DJ stole the sandwiches for lunch, and when the others steal them from Beth, Tyler offers his to Lindsey. Leshawna asks why he’s bothering, and Tyler makes it clear that he can help whoever he wants just fine.
It’s also followed by a Tyler confessional where he claims that on teams or not on teams, people can play fairly and have a good time as one big family. So he doesn’t see the problem with being there for Lindsey.
After the confessional, Heather asks how DJ got the sandwiches, where he doesn’t answer, and instead we get a flashback to the tent. DJ is putting up a small camera of his own asking if it’s on, where the screen is shaky and static as he offers to tell the audience his own ways of making sandwiches, only for the camera to fall on the floor when Chef shows up in the shadows. From there, it’s mostly the same scene, only the screen is sideways and even more filled with static, and we can only see DJ in the frame.
(Yeah, writers, are you aware that IN UNIVERSE this is a TV show, and thus it makes NO SENSE how the audience can see inside a character’s head?! Just to say)
We cut back to the present, and DJ decides that he’s done with the game, making his leave.
As he’s leaving, we can see in the corner Gwen, who is chilling in her cage by the prison set. DJ lets her out, only for Gwen to close the door again. In confusion, DJ asks if things are okay, and Gwen only scolds “What? You can’t let a criminal be rightfully locked up?”
“You’re not a criminal,” DJ makes it clear “You just… made a mistake.”
“What? And you haven’t made any yourself?” Gwen asks in annoyance, where DJ sits on the outside of the cage to express that yeah, he does make mistakes of his own… he could potentially regret so much in the future.
Without Gwen knowing what he’s referring to, Gwen asks him “How do you do it?”
DJ is confused until Gwen clarifies “How do you stay all sweet and grounded even with the insanity of the game?”
DJ isn’t able to answer, only hearing Gwen look away from him and claim “Maybe fame just isn’t my thing… maybe I really am just meant to be in the shadows, away from people.”
DJ looks at her with guilt on his face, caused by the fact that he’s on a mental leash from Chef, preventing him from being able to help her further.
After the untouched Beth Lindsey and Heather exchange, and Lindsey confessional, we get the announcement of the challenge.
Thus the Chris fakeout death is completely untouched… I mean, it IS Chris Maclean.
When Chris asks about any horror movies they’ve seen, on top of the untouched bits of that, we also get Gwen mentioning she’s seen the entire ennealogy of ‘Chainsaw Hook Wars’ though critically the first two were the only good ones, she and Duncan also have a brief gush about the bloodbath in the sixth film. Other than that, this challenge explanation is untouched.
Heather suggests right away that their killer should be Duncan, but Gwen is hesitant to agree with her given her track record. “Oh and you have a better suggestion?” Heather wonders, which silences Gwen and prompts Harold to claim he’s scared of Duncan on a daily basis and for Leshawna to second that Duncan is a great actor.
“Glad we can agree,” Heather claims to Harold, who makes it clear that he’s not ‘agreeing with her’ he just said his own opinion.
However, just like in canon, Chef forces DJ into taking the role.
After Duncan’s confessional, we cut to the Grips where Justin volunteers to be the killer. Noah however objects and tries to think strategically about their ideas, writing it all down on the wall with a rock, which everyone else falls asleep to.
Noah however wakes them up through his strategies where he accidentally roasts everyone “Well obviously Lindsey’s too stupid to know what horror is, Owen’s way too bubbly and nice to be scary, the only thing scary about Beth is her dentals, Nutsy is… I don’t think she knows, and Justin is 4000% more attractive than he is terrifying.”
This prompts everyone to back away from him and for Lindsey to ask in concern “Who hurt you?”
This prompts a confessional from Noah where he explains “Who hurt me? Knowledge. That’s what. The only thing terrifying about Justin is his whininess and his laziness in school. Trust me, I should be leading this team, and yet everyone here is more interested in the jerks of the election!”
After the confessional, we have Izzy volunteering and Lindsey snapping a sense into everyone that BETH should do it, considering she’s a non-screamer. Which is untouched.
We then cut to the scenes where Harold and Justin are preparing to enter. Heather grabs Harold by the arm, making a strategy that he fake screams. When Harold claims he knows what he’s doing, Heather makes it clear that they had a deal, that the dork should listen to the strategist.
“I can be a strategist if I wanted to,” Harold claims, where Heather only groans “And to think I let you sleep in my bed the other night…”
Harold however stands his ground and claims he has mad acting skills, and in a confessional he briefly mentions that the only thing scary enough for his shrieks to be genuine are Duncan, and beavers, maybe even Courtney if you get on her bad side.
Justin is ensuring Owen and Lindsey that things will be okay, and that he can be a good screamer, only for Noah to step in and roast “As long as you don’t break a nail, then you’ll be whining instead.”
With that, (WITHOUT the Justin and Harold exchange) we begin. And it’s completely untouched with their performances. Though I will say if I could I would redirect the not so believing voice acting in this scene…? Like Harold’s acting scream sounds WAY quieter than Justin’s to me, and we’re supposed to believe he did it louder. That kind of direction is out of my power though as this rewrite is a script, not a show… at the end of the day. *sad*
The Leshawna and Lindsey round is completely untouched… writing wise, because we awkwardly cut back and forth to them. So after Leshawna and Lindsey give their opinions about the setting, we just do the Lindsey part first and then when that’s done we do the Leshawna part.
From there, the tiebreaker goes with Izzy, Owen, Lindsey, and Noah for the Grips, and Gwen, Heather, Tyler, and Duncan for the Gaffers. Just like in canon, Owen and Izzy make out, which causes a jab from Noah to ask “You guys ask for death, don’t you?”
But Heather and Duncan are resilient on the scene set up. Tyler makes it clear that his heart belongs to Lindsey, and sports, where after he sees Lindsey they both leave their spots to make out on their own merits, Lindsey asking how a guy like him can be so sweet.
There’s then a quick Tyler confessional where he admits “And she doesn’t even remember my name half the time…” he sighs at that in disappointment, but decides “Oh well, at least she can remember my taste.” (I said it once I’ll say it again, this show brings out your inner fetish)
And after the failed make out scene between Duncan and Heather, Gwen makes it clear “Duncan’s heart belongs to Courtney, honestly Heather, don’t you have the decency to respect that?” (Which, you know, is FORESHADOWING)
Regardless, the rest is untouched, as the Grips are only able to give sarcastic screams, and Chef grants the Gaffers the win and causes DJ to faint.
When it fades to black and comes back in, we don’t get anyone asking if he’s okay, instead we get another flashback with the static camera, DJ giving his own little video documentary late at night about how his mama would always say that doing this would help cope, and he needs a lot of coping and time away from Chef, who is scaring him. He shows a phone in his hand, claiming that he stole it from Chef so that he can call some support in the situation. Specifically, his mom.
He gets on a call with her and expresses how great it is to hear from her, expressing how he misses her, she however doesn’t turn her head to the phone camera, clearly ashamed of her son’s actions. DJ uses what is essentially the same dialogue from the canon scene, but his mom puts it simply that the son she knows would never lie.
DJ apologizes to her in guilt, claiming he doesn’t know what to do now… “You asked me before high school what I wanted to be in my life, and I have that path laid out from Chef, but…”
“And what do you want to be?” His mom asks with aggressiveness “My son, or someone famous?”
The scene cuts when DJ steps back in confusion, accidentally bumping into the camera and dropping it.
The clatter noise of the camera transitions to Heather slapping DJ awake in the present. The rest of this scene is completely untouched, as the Grips are sent to sleep in the dining hall. There, just like in canon, the ghost story and the explanation of roles in the next challenge goes completely untouched. There really isn’t anything else to add here.
With the ghost, just like in canon, Lindsey is able to stop them in savage moments, able to counter it. (Like dang girl, what did they do to you in All Stars?)
From there, Duncan claims he knows a better trick when he says he’s taking charge, asking a trivia on what do people find gross and scary about horror movies? Gwen instantly says blood, knowing exactly where he’s going, and from there they both take charge in making the fake blood mix. After Duncan tells his story about this trick, Gwen rolls her eyes and calls it old school, proclaiming how she used to do this as a prank for her classmates, spreading it on their desks. Duncan laughs at that, even though no one else follows, making Gwen mutter despite her laughter “No wonder they hated me…”
However, just like in canon, Lindsey is able to be savage and counter the attempt. The only tweak needed is that in response to Owen licking the ketchup, Noah points out “That’s just wrong.”
Just like in canon again, the others pressure DJ into doing his own trick despite how it’s against his moral compass. Harold steps in and assures DJ that it’s called acting, and thus things will be fine. Duncan scoffs at his warmth and calls that a pathetic excuse, where Harold stands up and claims “I’ll have you know that I know what I’m doing here!”
Heather proclaims “Please, You’re even less scary than the big guy.” Before any further arguing can go on, DJ puts a hand on Harold’s shoulder and assures him that they can do it, they’ll do his plan, and DJ will back him up.
From there, they essentially try the same trick as in canon. It seems to go well until Lindsey is the last one in the tent, refusing to flee. DJ is readying the fork to throw at the device, only to hesitate when he remembers his mom’s words from the flashback earlier in this episode. Lindsey is able to step out of the way of the shot when stepping back from the sight, and seeing DJ’s discomfort, Harold tries to counter it on his own by leaving his position and throwing a nunchunk from his pocket to hit Lindsey in the head, knocking her out.
From there, we get DJ coming out in confusion and Heather asking if he’s okay. Cutting out the mama flashback in the scene (because again, logicwise, the audience shouldn’t be able to see this) the exchange is untouched. From there, Harold from the ceiling asks if they got it, only for them to see the sun crack of dawn. Chris comes into the tent to see the results, and thus claims that the KILLER GRIPS win immunity.
Everyone is confused, only for Chris to clarify that the goal was to get ALL the Grips OUT of the tent. Harold knocked out Lindsey, (who is just waking up to hear this) but she technically didn’t leave the tent, and technically survived the night. Which means that the Screaming Gaffers are going to be sending someone home.
Everyone looks at Harold in fury over this, where the guy nervously backs away to his corner of the ceiling, only to misstep and fall off, Lindsey dodging just in time before he can crash on top of her.
As everyone leaves, Heather jabs at Harold “Should’ve known you’d cost us the game. Why did I bother?”
“Because you need me,” Harold counters as he gets up, “Otherwise you’re just… bald.”
Heather is strictly offended by that, only for Harold to nervously shrug “That was… the best I could come up with, but you get my point.”
“I like it,” Lindsey envies, and the two share a high five at the Heather roast.
Tyler comes over to congratulate Lindsey, trying and failing to lift her in his arms. She thanks him anyway and they talk away through the morning as they leave the camp, leaving DJ the only one to hesitate in leaving behind Harold.
“I shouldn’t have-” DJ tries to apologize, only for Harold to say “It’s not your fault DJ, I got out of line, I-I guess I just thought I was good at everything.”
“Which you are,” DJ says back, finishing his first sentence with “I’m sorry about this.”
Harold assures him, “Worst thing that happens is that I get voted off, you’ll still get a chance to be all tough and famous, right?”
Harold leaves the tent with acceptance of that, only for DJ to see him go and mutter “...right…”
We then cut to the elimination ceremony.
So now we reach the voting sessions, where the votes have been casted, and losers have been selected…
The awards go to DJ…
Duncan…
Tyler…
Leshawna…
Surprisingly Gwen…
…
And the final award goes to…
…
…
Heather.
…
Which means that Harold is left without an award, and thus…
…
Is handed an award.
By DJ.
Everyone is left shocked at this, asking what DJ is doing, Harold even protesting that DJ can’t do this…
DJ however says that he can, and thus he stands up for himself, claiming that HE will be the one leaving tonight.
Chef tries to stop him, but DJ stands his ground, and confesses to everyone that he was in an illegal alliance with Chef. He gave him the shortcuts to winning the game… but it’s not what mama wants, it’s not what HE wants…
Because ultimately, if being famous means he has to give up his love for his mama, animals, and his entire identity in general… then he does NOT want to be famous.
Harold tries to protest and give back the award, claiming that HE screwed over the team, and DJ deserves a million bucks over him any day. To which Duncan scoffs “That’s just a fact” Earning him an elbow jab from Gwen. Gwen stands up as well to claim that DJ can’t quit, especially from how much he worked to get here…
But DJ snatches the voting papers from Chris and rips them apart, with the parting message that he should have done this long ago…
“Cause hey, famous or not, we all can be whatever we want to be.”
This leaves all the Gaffers confused on the meaning of this.
(And this line will be apparent to most of these character’s arcs later in the season)
But with that, DJ quits the game, says his farewells like in the original, and leaves, proud of himself for doing so.
Episode 10: Masters of Disasters
Episode 10 opens with everyone in the mess hall, forced to eat disgusting food once more. To Harold’s reaction, Noah insists without a care about the food that “Hey at least it’s better than the cafeteria lunches in school.”
Which prompts Owen to chow down at his bowl without issue, claiming “Right back at you!”
This leads to a cute exchange between the two gushing over the rotten sludge, Noah saying how bad it is, and Owen countering with how great it is. At this point, this is the first actual time where Noah is seen laughing and being happy socializing the whole season.
Owen ends up spitting out some food while laughing, getting it in Noah’s hair, ending their exchange as Noah claims he’s leaving to clean up again.
Justin watched it suspicious, and he has a confessional “So Noah and Owen have something going on with them? Noah’s no threat on his own, but if Izzy’s also with them, that could be an alliance that could overpower mine… but I know a thing or two about Noah’s reign, he was my secretary in middle school.”
Noah in his own confessional makes it clear “Owen and I aren’t friends. Not at all. I don’t need to deal with that. What I do need is to converse with him and Izzy on how to get rid of Justin.”
Justin leans over to Owen to ask what’s the tie between him and Noah, where Owen claims that they’re great buddies. “Funny…” Justin digs into it “Last time I remember Noah doesn’t have any friends.”
Beth then counters that it’s possible for someone to not have friends and then get a boyfriend. She uses herself as an example, telling her story about how she met Brady at the dentist. Izzy seconds that, after all, it’s not like romance starts with an alliance.
“What alliance?” Justin wonders, where Izzy replies digging into her food “With the heart.”
Justin then uses his charms to get through to a stammering Owen at that, and he ends up admitting that Noah said something about a code to their friendship, but he doesn’t fully get what that means. Honest.
A brief Owen confessional states “I know that code is meant for me to be loyal to Noah… but Justin is just too hot to resist, if I could, I would kiss him!! … Don’t tell Izzy that.”
Gwen then wonders what they’ll do without DJ, and Heather claims that “He did what the rest of you should be doing, I don’t see why you’re hesitating.”
Gwen shoves the bowl away in disgust, where Leshawna, in a surprise turn, makes the statement that “Giving up is an option for the people in the trash, I respect DJ but it was uncalled for. Simple as that.”
In a Gwen confessional, she wonders “Simple as that? Dude literally gave up EVERY chance he had to be a celebrity, and you just say ‘simple as that?’ And you want to know why I’m sticking? It’s because I can, and also… I’m not sure how to finish that sentence.”
From there, starting with Harold and the straws, the rest of the scene is completely untouched, as well as Chris’s introduction to the Disaster movie theme.
(Heh, Disaster Movie.)
The explanation of the challenge goes untouched, only I am cutting out the Beth part entirely, since it comes out of nowhere given the context of the scene. Instead we get Noah grabbing Owen and Izzy’s ears to get them to hear his whispering, explaining that Izzy takes the front and clears for the rest of them, as she’s the best with this context, and Izzy in a short story claims that she’s dealt with an actual gizzard bath once. Justin comes in to annoy Noah by saying he wants to whisper too, but Noah tries to back him away with “Do you know anything about respect?”
“You don’t know it yourself,” Justin claims, where Owen defends that both Noah and Justin are great allies in the grand scheme of things. He pulls them both in for a tight hug, which only prompts Noah and Justin to snarl at each other.
Cutting out the dialogue from all the campers at the starting line, we begin. On this course, we get the ground shaking as things go on, with Izzy doing as Noah says and clearing ways for the other Grips, only for her to get hit by something from Chef, who starts throwing things. Tyler is able to dodge plenty by getting hit, even if he ends up being stuck on the monkey bars over and over again from this, as a simple visual gag.
When Owen collapses like in the original, Noah falters back to try and pull him up to snap sense into him, which catches Justin’s attention. After Justin’s confessional from the golf ball hail, he’s visibly as injured as there, where Noah gets past him to scoff “What? Too much for your precious beauty to handle Justin?”
From that, Justin grabs Noah by the leg to stop him, scoffing back that he doesn’t know the value of skin! Noah shoots back in an argument that he does, only for Justin to mock that he’d rather get Owen’s hands dirty than his own. Noah claims that “So what if? We’re still in the game at the end of the day!”
“And what happens when he leaves your grasp?” Justin proclaims to get to him “Will the rest of the team just ditch you like last season?”
Noah scoffs at that, claiming “Oh yeah, that wouldn’t happen, I’ve moved past your rulings in council Justin! I got a great position without you!”
After that revelation, Chris cranks things up, prompting NOAH to be the one to fall through the cracks and Justin catching him, but only so that Justin can wonder “What did you say?!”
In a Noah confessional, we hear his story where he has a clear bandage on one of his arms. “I was president all my years in high school, before that Justin would always have that position and my hard studies to get there went to waste, all because the staff only wanted the good looking and popular guys. He didn’t have to try to screw over our education, and without him in the picture, I didn’t have to either to make it better!”
However, Owen crashes into the cracks to trap all three of them, and in the process Justin decides to call out to Owen about the situation, asking if he knows what a code is. Owen says he doesn’t, prompting Noah to admit “It’s an alliance! Say no to Justin!!”
“Why would I say no to Justin?” Owen asks, where Noah claims in stress from being dangled over an edge “Because he only wants to stop ME!”
“Wait? Me?” Owen asks in confusion “You mean, ‘we,’ right?”
Beth and Lindsey get through to help them out, and with an idea from Lindsey, they use one of the tires as a splint. Tyler crashes close to them at the suggestion, and immediately decides to help, claiming that Lindsey’s smart. The three of them, using Lindsey’s plan, are able to free the three guys.
The Grips try to keep up when the Gaffers are seen in the lead. When Owen blocks the golf balls, Noah stays behind and demands he keeps moving, only for Owen to ask “So we’re in an alliance, eh?”
Noah again demands they keep moving, and Owen asks again what exactly this alliance means for them both, and Izzy. Only for the golf balls to stop and prompting them both to start moving, only for them both to get stuck in the pipe from going in at the same time.
As the Gaffers finish, the Grips make it to the wall, where Izzy Owen and Noah are the only ones left behind, unable to get over. Noah tries to get the three of them to listen to them on a plan, only for Owen to ask if this is why Noah hates Justin so much. Noah asks “What does it matter to you?”
To which Owen says innocently “Well nothing, I just wanted to see that if my little buddy is being hurt by a hot guy, I could fix it.”
“You can’t fix it Owen,” Noah ignores him, claiming “Listen to me, that’s what you can do.”
“Okay, I’m listening,” Owen claims, where Noah gives the idea to try and catch the items, like books or bricks for them to step on. Owen does and looks over, only to be distracted by asking Noah if he’s okay.
“No I’m not okay!” Noah puts it simply as he’s handed a book, “I’m in the middle of a death trap!”
“I was talking about this alliance,” Owen clarifies, still innocently and friendly asking “So we’re all buddies in this case, and if we need to take out the Gaffers or Justin, then-”
This puts Noah over the edge as he blurts out “I’M NOT YOUR BUDDY!”
His arm gets put over the wall and a pot hits it, forcing Noah to hide back over the wall, Izzy trying to make sure he’s okay. Owen is confused by this, as Noah clarifies, Justin from the front smirking at his rival admitting to it,
“You know what assets are, right?”
“Wait, what kind?” Owen asks, where Noah cuts him off by claiming “The kind where you use someone to get somewhere, and you use them for your gain… THAT’S what this is, Owen, okay?! I’m not your friend! Leave if you want, but the truth is, I don’t need you to get through this game! I thought you knew something about winning… but you’re just an idiot in that regard, and annoying, and sweet, and you seem to care WAY too much about me despite this… I’m not helping my case.”
Owen is stunned by his words, looking over the wall to ignore Noah further to try and get over the wall himself. Noah looks up to see Owen try to go, deciding it doesn’t matter…
That is until a massive textbook hits Owen right in the jaw, and the big guy is flown over Noah and Izzy, crashing on his back on the log.
Izzy immediately runs over to Owen to see if he’s okay, and Noah is left shocked to see that Owen’s teeth are shattered and that his jaw is broken badly. If anything, it hurts Noah the most, due to this essentially being HIS fault.
Justin, before the confessional, grins at this sight, looking in the mirror and claiming “And that’s where those people end up… always.”
We get the untouched Beth and Izzy confessionals, but there’s a last one from Noah, where he realizes “I never thought THIS would happen from my own plan… Owen’s a piece of work, but he was MY piece of work and… I let him down.”
The Chris scene and the knowledge of the Grips winning the challenge is completely untouched. Changes start to happen again when the ambulance shows up. Noah tries to walk alongside Owen despite his own sprained arm, trying to assure him that it’ll be okay, they’re gonna patch him up, they’re gonna be able to eat rotten sludge again when he comes back… but nothing gets through to Owen as the ambulance leaves, with Izzy putting an arm around Noah’s shoulder to walk him back in line.
The other campers are left waiting by the docks to hear the news about Owen. Lindsey is in Tyler’s arms, where Tyler tries to assure her that he’ll be okay, Tyler himself broke his entire spine once.
“He was my friend Trevor!” Lindsey cries, where Tyler hugs her further.
Gwen, in her own shocked state, asks Duncan and Harold if they think Owen will be okay. Harold claims that even if the worst happens, Gwen herself should still have memories of him, them being finalists last season and all of that.
“Honestly…” Duncan admits, “I just wish it was Harold instead.” Which offends Harold greatly.
Leshawna scoffs that now isn’t the time, only for Heather to look at her and for Leshawna to take it back and stammer. Heather finishes her sentence by claiming “It’s one less guy in the way of the million.”
“How can you say that?!” Gwen stands up to scoff at her, attempting to walk away.
She’s stopped however by Chris coming back with a paper in his hand, saying the news. He reads it,
“The jaw has a comminuted fracture, we wired his mouth for measures, however even if we do the best we can, it’ll take about… five to seven weeks to heal! We recommend he stays in the hospital for three, and rests as much as he can, thus we unfortunately cannot allow you to bring Owen back in the game show.”
“Whoa whoa, hold on!” Chris is shocked at the last part, “You can’t just do that! What are we going to do about the ratings?!”
Regardless, the news had been spread to the other campers, and it made Noah (with a cast over his arm) turn away in shame.
Owen had been medevaced.
He is no longer in the game.
Noah and Izzy are shocked especially to hear this, where Justin grins at this news. Izzy jumps in front to snatch the paper and read it herself, not believing it. After the Chris confessional, Lindsey and Gwen both come up to try and comfort Noah, only for him to shove them away at it, telling himself that it’s for the best, that Owen did that himself, that he never cared about Owen anyway… but his voice suggests the exact opposite.
Regardless, Chris forces upon the next challenge anyway.
Trapping campers in a tank with slowly rising water that will totally NOT backfire in the slightest and potentially kill them.
(FACT: Chris is a psychopath)
With the water rising, Justin asks Noah cheekily what they do now, where he asks back in annoyance “I dunno… do you know?”
Beth instead tries to take responsibility for the lock herself, claiming that Brady knows plenty about busting open lockers.
Instead of awkwardly cutting in between, we just do the second Grip part right away as Beth is trying to use the wrong lock, confusing them on what to do.
With the Gaffers, Duncan does his canon flashlight part and they wonder what parts to use. Gwen suggests they use the lock on the floor first, prompting Harold’s canon part.
As he puts his hand on the lock, it transitions to Beth trying the same thing with that same lock. This is untouched for the most part, only instead of Lindsey fighting over the lock paper, it’s Noah. They continue as Izzy, after storming away, tries to hold her breath underwater to break the lock herself, without much prevail on her part.
Justin and Noah both decide to try another locker in the process, but they pick opposite ones. After a brief argument of such, Beth is forced to help Justin, prompting Noah to ask for Lindsey’s help.
“Funny,” Lindsey refuses, saying “I thought you only wanted to use us.”
To that, Noah exclaims “Would you rather DROWN?!”
“Depends,” Lindsey wonders, “Would I get your shampoo for a week?”
“What?! I don’t use-” Noah tries to object, only for the water to nearly get on his cast. He decides to groan it off and accept “Fine, but help me with this!” To which she does.
From there, Izzy comes up to catch her breath, asking how they’re doing, prompting Beth and Justin to accidentally open the shark hatch.
The Gaffers next two bits are completely untouched. As well as the Chris and Chef bits, as they’re failing to find the exits, and thus the campers could potentially die.
Back with the Gaffers, they’re starting to grasp that this might be the end for them.
“Any last regrets?” Tyler asks in worry, where we have a brief exchange between all of them on what regrets they have. “For me it’s Lindsey not knowing my name and no one will probably ever know me!” Tyler expresses.
For Duncan, “If I’m honest, I regret not asking my mom for help on my homework before I set fire to my school to skip a test.”
For Harold “Never being good enough for Leshawna or any of you guys in your books!”
For Leshawna “Wait what? All I regret is that my sister has everything easy for her and I can’t get her help to have the same! And also maybe what I said about you Harold.”
For Gwen “You think that’s bad?! I regret ever betraying you guys or-or breaking up with Trent, or… maybe that was for the best, but I still don’t want to see my dad yet if it means leaving this world!”
For Heather “I regret not shaving your heads.”
Which grants everyone a death glare at her.
From there, Harold figures out the straws and plans to dive down and pick the lock. This moment and this save goes COMPLETELY untouched. I don’t care what anyone says, this Harold moment is just so fantastic and so intense that I cannot bring myself to change it, let alone remove it.
Harold saves everyone with his mad lock-picking skills, and all the campers are saved. The Grip’s reactions are completely untouched, but we also get the Gaffer’s reactions as well. On the surface streets, most of them are coughing up water and trying to catch their breaths.
Gwen flops on her back from such, where Duncan looks down on her face to smirk and ask “First time avoiding death, how does it feel?”
Gwen pokes the tip of his nose with her finger, smiling and admitting “It’s too dangerous for my taste, thank you.”
Heather comes up from the water, with a passed out Harold over her shoulder. She drops him back first on the ground and under her breath, she mutters to him “You’re an idiot, you know that…? Next time you try something like that for me, I won’t let you in any alliance again.”
Heather is shoved over by Leshawna, who’s terrified at the sight, only for Harold to immediately wake up and cough up water. He glances at her smiling, greeting “Glad you’re in one piece, m’lady…”
As he starts to cough again, Leshawna squeezes him in a tight hug, clearly upset and relieved over what has happened. “Don’t you scare me like that, okay sugar?! I kinda want you around, you know?!”
Harold’s face flushes red at this as he hugs back, trying to calm her and assure her “I’m okay Leshawna… we’re all okay… you don’t have to cry.”
“Cry?!” Leshawna scoffs, wiping away her eyes and parting with the hug, scolding him “I never cry!”
This, however, is what grasps everyone’s attention, and with similar dialogue to canon, they find out that Leshawna fake cried to get the spa award.
After the flashback that indicates such, we cut to night with every camper in their robes, Heather muttering her canon line about how Leshawna tricked them into getting the spa night.
Leshawna tries to assure them that it’s not a big deal, only for Gwen to snap back “Not a big deal? You lied!”
Leshawna scoffs that she’s one to talk, and Harold tries to defend Leshawna by claiming she’s the one who’s caring for the team, but no one buys that.
Chris however brushes off the entire incident with a reward that no one wants, which is completely untouched. But without the Owen bit, since he’s not here, Chris makes his speech and ends the episode.
Episode 11: Full Metal Drama
Episode 11 opens with Gwen sitting on the treeside watching the sun rise, with her diary in her hand writing about everything on her mind. (I WAS gonna be poetic there, but it didn’t turn out as good as I hoped)
She writes about how her time on Total Drama still sucks for all she knows, bad food, dangerous challenges that got the other finalist medevaced, and Heather is still here being Heather. Truth is, though she wants to leave, she’s glad she’s sticking out to watch the other’s drama unfold. Justin and Noah are at each other’s throats, DJ ended up quitting, her and Duncan are still getting along well, and then there’s Leshawna…
She looks up to see Leshawna walking by the washrooms with the other Gaffers following her. She’s stammering at them from a distance and promises that ‘it’ is not a big deal, but the audience can’t hear much at the moment.
Gwen finishes writing, saying that Leshawna’s still mad at her, she doesn’t blame her… but she does feel bad for what came out the other night.
With that, Gwen puts the book away and walks over to see what’s going on.
There’s only one working shower stall now, and Leshawna is trying to offer it to the other Gaffers as an apology. This is, dialogue wise, the same scene but with this context instead of the bathroom stalls, and instead of Owen being in the stall (because he’s not here) it’s Justin, who had been in there for over an hour. Duncan scolds that, but Justin claims that it takes effort to keep his image. Heather ends up agreeing with that. The scene ends with everyone backing away when Justin casually threatens to take off his towel.
So yeah, for this episode, there is NONE of the smoothie, and absolutely does Leshawna NOT drink or eat stuff that could potentially sicken her. Given the previous episodes clarified that Leshawna had digestive problems and avoided this kind of stuff, WHY the hell WOULD SHE OBLIGE WITH SOMETHING LIKE THAT?! (I cannot express enough how much this part of the canon episode gets on my nerves, it was literally just done for a plot device, and a gross one)
When leaving the stall, Leshawna tries to talk to Tyler about the incident, but most of the Gaffers brush her off in neglect. With no other option, Leshawna is left seeing Gwen in the corner of her eye, sitting in the back of the washrooms alone.
“Hey girl…” Leshawna greets, slowly walking up to her to see Gwen eating her own porridge away from everyone. Leshawna doesn’t know what to say to her, other than to ask “How are you doing?”
“I’m alive,” Gwen says back without looking at her, “How’s the betrayal?”
Leshawna defends “It wasn’t a betrayal, it was an act.”
“Yeah…” Gwen counters, “Like how Trent’s stunts were acts. I get that.”
Leshawna tries to get to her and make Gwen look at her, but she’s refusing to. She assumes “Sorry things have been ugly for you, you and Trent I mean.”
“Did you know that the ugliest part of last season was when I thought Trent cheated on me with Heather?” Gwen asks her, “And how so far the ugliest part THIS season is you screaming in my face and shutting me out of your life?”
Leshawna “I overreacted, They’re overreacting. It’s a game, they can get over it.”
Gwen hums at that sarcastically, putting a spoonful in her mouth and saying “Tell yourself that when you win this game and no one wants you around.”
“That’s impossible,” Leshawna proclaims, coming over to sit next to Gwen despite Gwen trying to scoot away. Leshawna begs that at least give her some of the bowl, the others won’t let her sit with them and she needs to eat. Gwen sighs and obliges, and as they eat, Gwen asks what would Leshawna do if she was famous.
Leshawna answers that she would be sitting on the same throne as Leshaniqua, her parents, getting degrees, good jobs, a good family, what more of a goal is it than that? Leshawna asks the same of Gwen, remarking how she was a finalist last season, and she said something about going to a university. Gwen however shocks Leshawna with the answer that she… doesn’t know.
She doesn’t know why she’s doing this. “I guess it’s… I guess I didn’t want to leave us on bad terms, I don’t know.”
“Girl, we’re not on bad terms,” Leshawna makes it clear “It’s a game. Drama happens. Best we can do is hold our own until the end.”
Gwen then asks “‘It’s a game,’ huh? Is that what your people think? Life is a game?”
“Well… yeah,” Leshawna answers, which makes Gwen tell her “Did you know that I broke up with Trent right here, behind a communal bathroom? I met him on the show, I fell for him on the show, I lost attraction to him on the show, I broke up with him on the show, I was blackmailed to repeat his mistakes ON THE SHOW.” She scoffs, mocking “‘It’s a game.’”
Gwen looks over at Leshawna, seeing a small paper in her pocket. Smirking, she snatches it from her and opens it, and immediately she starts laughing as Leshawna tries to take it back from her and fails.
“No way…” Gwen asks in her laughter “You actually KEEP the dork’s crappy poems?!”
“They’re not crappy, okay?!” Leshawna scolds in embarrassment, “They’re… poetic. Well written, besides, it’d be rude to throw them away.”
“Wow…” Gwen still laughs at it, even after getting the letter snatched away “And to think you’re HESITATING to ask him out?”
“I DON’T want to ask him out!” Leshawna scoffs, where Gwen recalls “You kissed him! Ya had no reason to kiss a guy like that, but you kissed him.”
“He’s not my type!” Leshawna defends, crumbling the paper to try and stand her ground “He’s… strange, scrawny, gross, sweet, smart, way more talented than I initiated and he actually LIKES my afro… he’s-he’s probably sad and broke anyway, explains his lust. I’ll probably marry some hot celebrity anyway.”
Gwen still looks at her in disbelief, claiming “Sure… turn down a guy who cares for you, sure. ‘It’s a game.’”
She walks away to take the bowl, leaving Leshawna stunned at her words. She picks up the card and un-crumbles it, seeing the heart on the front of it. She blushes and holds it to her heart, admitting to herself “I don’t care what’s in the heart Harold… no one expects this of you or me.”
We hear the horns sound, prompting Leshawna to join Gwen as Chris begins to explain the war theme of the episode, where it’s all untouched.
Tyler openly questions if war is the same as a sport, to which Duncan tells him “No.”
From there, Harold tries to encourage it with his gaming logic, where most of this dialogue and scene is untouched. Duncan mocks him, Harold pulls out a num-yo, only for Duncan to pull a counter attack to have that num-yo hit Harold IN the num-yo.
(That’s like, the one thing Duncan and Harold have in common, the fact that they are NOT having any kids)
The only change here is that after Duncan walks away, Leshawna comes over to help Harold up. It prompts a quick Gwen confessional where she teases “‘He’s not my type,’ eh Leshawna?”
Without the blindfold part (because it’s pointless) We move on to the plane jumping challenge, where it’s untouched, until after Lindsey claims she wants to be the boss of the team. Noah and Tyler both come over to her, Tyler encouraging her by scooping her up in his arms and claiming she’ll be a beautiful general. Lindsey asks if he really thinks so, to which Noah proclaims “No.”
Justin comes over to the girls to give them his proposal, and Noah snarls back at the fact that they’re actually three MILES up, not kilometers, only for Justin to snap back with his claim that math is for ugly people.
When Justin asks the girls to give him a soft place to land, Tyler steps in front to defend Lindsey with the claim that she’s not his slave.
“She can if she wants to,” Justin smirks at, where Lindsey calmly backs Tyler away to claim to Justin that she might have an idea on how all the team can land softly. Noah asks if it involves crashing in trees, and to his shock, Lindsey says yes.
“That’s all good numb-skull, but I think we need an actual strategy,” Noah dismisses, trying to take charge in claiming “I need to charge this. We need to scan our land, analyze our parachutes, make a good angle to jump safely, and-”
“Why would anyone listen to you?” Justin asks, where Noah tries to defend “Because I’m the actual smart one on this team!”
“Smart?” Lindsey asks, “Or self absorbed?” Which earns an ‘oooooooooooooohhh’ from Beth and Tyler at the roast.
“And another thing,” Noah casually jabs at Lindsey and Justin “Don’t be snarky with me.”
Chris from there declares that they’ll be jumping right away, and it’s for the most part untouched, except instead of Owen saying “We die?” It's Beth.
Izzy is ecstatic about fighting in the war, and though Noah tries to contain her, after Chris throws off the parachutes, Izzy ends up picking up the small Noah and throwing him overboard, jumping right after. From there, the plane leans over and everyone falls off, with the untouched gag that it was actually an inch foot drop.
Next we go through the paint challenge, and the Gaffer’s set up is completely untouched, except for at the end we get a Harold confessional where he makes it clear “To be fair, war-wise, Duncan is a decent fit. He’s scary, a backstabber, brooding, and extremely brutal. But does he HAVE to be all those things towards me 24/7? I’d REALLY like to know!”
With the Grips, Lindsey takes charge as Admiral like in canon, only here when she asks everyone to oblige with ‘her’ plan, Noah asks in concern why they’re going with Lindsey leading this instead of him? To which Izzy innocently answers “Because you’re lazy, bossy, manipulative, and you cost Owen the game.”
“You’re not helping,” Noah claims, where Izzy makes it clear that she envies him, except for that last part, it was uncalled for.
Beth snatches the book out of Noah’s hand that he’s reading, demanding he gets to work. Noah obliges, only to ask “Wait, what about him?” Referring to Justin on the hammock. Beth claims that the paint will damage his skin, but regardless of that, Noah stomps over and shakes the hammock to get Justin off. He asks what gives, and Lindsey watching makes it clear that they ALL need to cooperate on this. Noah however ignores her and continues to argue with Justin about a certain paint box, and their patheticness causes them to continuously slap each other.
“Are you sure you two aren’t the morons here?” Lindsey asks, and as Noah is shoved on the ground, Justin asks smirking “Wait, are you referring to me or him?”
In response to them continuing their petty session, Lindsey takes the box and opens it, pulling out a small paint nuke to put in front of the boys, forcing them to separate to prevent it from exploding.
“Hang on…” Lindsey realizes comedically “How unstable is this thing?” Causing her to accidentally blow up paint on her face.
From there, the scene is untouched with Izzy’s set up, only in replacement of Owen’s canon line, again, is Beth.
Both paint explosions are completely untouched, and the Gaffers win it for the same reason, and are given the box to defend.
We don’t have the Owen and Leshawna scene at all, for all the reasons I said before this episode, so instead we just jump right into the next part of the challenge. Rules untouched.
The Gaffer’s plans and exchanges for the most part are untouched, only Harold does add a few positions in his plan on the girls being on the offense of the exit to add layers to their defense. And the only other change needed is that Duncan recommends a spy on the outside of the base, where Tyler volunteers.
The Grips watch this, Beth specifically, informing everyone that they’re digging a hole. Lindsey questions what it’s for, only for Noah to recall that SHE’S the admiral.
“Then we… attack?” Lindsey wonders, where her confusion is seen by Tyler in a treetop, who decides to help her out. He throws an acorn her way, and it hits her head, making her look up and see. She’s about to give him away, only for Tyler to do hand signals that are MEANT to indicate that she’s a great captain and he’s fallen for her, but all Lindsey gets from it is “We need an early fire before we… spread the attack all over and surround them… in the shape of a heart!”
Tyler face palms at that, and Justin realizes “That’s… actually not a bad idea.” “Yeah but what do we use to get them out of the hole? Our looks?” Noah asks, which prompts Izzy to make her crazy idea about the Mexican food, only change being that instead of explosives, they explode them with… prompting her to speed away and grab some skunks from a burrow, holding them by the tails and laughing sinisterly at the idea.
Lindsey wholeheartedly agrees with that, especially if it means the Gaffers will be spending DAYS recovering from the damage. Izzy is proud of herself for the idea, and with that, they all go on, with Lindsey giving the directions that Izzy lays down the skunks in the hole, and on Lindsey’s signal, everyone comes out on their own side, Beth North, Justin South, Noah East, and Izzy West, and they STRIKE!
With that, the Grips charge away, with Lindsey staying behind. Tyler has a squirrel attack him and he crashes to the ground, Lindsey gazing at him and thanking him for believing in her, expressing how crazily divided her team is… but Tyler is now her prisoner. To which Tyler is okay with.
We cut over to the Gaffers where their hole is fully made. Harold is sitting on the box with his num-yos out, and Heather Leshawna and Gwen are peeking out for anything.
“See anything?” Leshawna asks Gwen, who snarkily remarks “I don’t think I would even when they come, not from this angle.”
Heather scolds that Gwen would obviously think of something better, where Gwen teases “You’re right Heather… Do you?” Which roasts Heather and makes Leshawna laugh.
“Oh like you two are any better!” Heather scolds, where Leshawna defends that she’s said a million times that she’s sorry for lying, it wasn’t fair, but they gotta understand that they’re all playing here.
“That’s not an excuse,” Heather tries to say, only for Leshawna to counter that it’s also not an excuse to read a diary in front of the world, brutalize everyone, and SMILE at it. That’s just what she can think of at the top of her head, what about Trent?
“And I guess I got a pass?” Gwen asks, where Leshawna and Heather both whisper-scoff “NO!” Which gets Leshawna and Gwen both laughing at that and Heather to roll her eyes, but she gazes at them in sorrow as Leshawna admits to Gwen “Guess we’re all messed up from this game.”
“Then we’ll be messed up teens fighting for money together,” Gwen smirks, where just as she says the line, Izzy gets behind their heads and drops the skunks right on them.
All three Gaffer girls are shocked at this, with Gwen in a brief confessional exclaiming “THAT WAS NOT WHAT I MEANT BY MESSED UP!!” Just as the confessional ends, the gas goes off.
Heather is the only one far enough away to avoid the blast, as Leshawna and Gwen have fallen over from the hit. As Heather starts running to try and escape, Leshawna tries to crawl out but fails, she tries to help out Gwen but is unable to carry her from the weakness of the smell and gas filling the hole.
“So this is how it ends…?” Leshawna asks (again, in a parody-esque moment) “Death by skunk bomb?”
“What a great way to go out,” Gwen smiles at her, “Am I right?” And the two share a friendly smile before they both pass out.
Izzy cackles that her plan is working, only for her to get stunned with Duncan’s trap, and just like in canon, he launches her back where Lindsey is. Izzy immediately gets up to claim she’s fine, only to see Lindsey and Tyler making out. Lindsey asks in a flirty tone what other information she has to pry out of him, which prompts Tyler to kiss her once more.
Izzy backs away from this, and as she’s running back down, she gets a walkie talkie with Justin, who is complaining about a splinter. He asks for her advice on how to cope with this, and Izzy is only able to respond “Uh… deal with it?”
From there, she and Justin have the exchange where Izzy expresses that she doesn’t think Justin’s cute, and Justin’s confessional about it.
Izzy switches over to Noah who asks for the plan, Izzy asks that Noah apologizes to Owen after the game in exchange for her help, where Noah claims that she doesn’t have to tell him twice to do such. She gives her canon Explosivo monologue to Noah, who afterwards asks “So… the plan is that the Gaffers go boom?” To which Izzy confirms.
Duncan is sliding in the hole with his own walkie talkie, trying to get to Tyler, with no answer, leaving him to believe they got him. He slides under near Harold to see what’s happening, and that the skunk situation is filling the entire hole. Heather slides through a tunnel coughing, trying to mutter what happened, only for her to collapse from the stink. Harold goes up to check on her, only to be forced to back away as the gas comes towards the boys, with the skunks crawling out.
“Are we the only ones left?” Harold asks, where Duncan instead shouts “Get out of the hole!” Harold asks why, where Duncan shouts at his face “THE HOLE’S A SKUNK BURROW MAN! EVERYWHERE’S A SKUNK, EVERYWHERE’S THE SMELL, THEY’RE TAKING OVER THE COUNTRY, RETREAT! RETREAT!!!”
They both start running out the exit, only for Harold to linger and decide to block the exit, claiming they need to figure out what to do together, especially if they’re the only Gaffers left to stop this and the Grips could be waiting outside.
From there, Duncan asks what Harold’s been doing all this time, where Harold defends that he’s been trying to hold the team together, NO THANKS TO DUNCAN.
Duncan scolds “And yet you let this happen?! You can’t do anything right, you’re an idiot!!”
Harold defends himself that at least he’s HERE, at least he’s TRYING TO HELP! What sort of Marine leaves their scouts behind like Duncan does?!
“Because I know how to play the game a tad more than you do!” Duncan defends, stammering in the process that they have to escape.
Harold doesn’t move, straight up asking Duncan what’s the deal. Duncan tries to change the subject from the poisoning happening, but Harold puts his question in more detail “Is there a reason why you kept pranking me even after I promised to be a better roommate?! Is there a reason why you’re always being so brutal with me, not giving me a chance?!”
“Cause you’re a dork and a sabotager!” Duncan makes it clear, demanding they leave NOW.
This is enough for Harold to put the pieces together, realizing “Courtney…”
To Duncan’s face, Harold confesses “I regretted it, you know? Using my mad skills for that was selfish and… it didn’t benefit me at all. I know I don’t know what I’m doing in this game, but that’s why I’m trying to be better now! I just… look, I’m SORRY Duncan, I hurt you, I hurt Courtney, this won’t fix things, but at least I said it!”
Duncan doesn’t buy the apology, and only scoffs “You know to the cops, a sorry doesn’t amount to anything, right?! Or any excuse you may have-”
And Harold cuts him off with an angry shout “It was because of YOU, that I did that to Courtney!”
Duncan is left silenced by that as Harold, for the first time we’ve seen in the show, is straight up furious with his words out of control, and stammering it out “Sure, you were right to call me out for my clothes, or whatever, and you’re right to call me out here, but you still treated me like dirt since day one! You-you think I’m just some personal plaything to you and you can just go ahead and push me around and expose my life to the world and LAUGH at it! You have it easier, you don’t get punched in the face everyday, you get along with everyone, you have a girlfriend, AND I DON’T GET IT AT ALL, HOW YOU CAN JUST… GET AWAY WITH SO MUCH SH-!”
He’s cut off from swearing by the ominous warning that the skunks are gonna blast them if they don’t escape, and after realizing it, Harold’s anger is snapped away as Duncan instead shouts back “Well I don’t have things easy! Okay?! I WAS IN JUVIE FOR YEARS!! You can’t just say that!”
“Say something?!” Harold decides, “Say we’re working together, say you value my contribution.”
Duncan tries to decline, only for Harold to cut him off and make it clear “Do it, or we’re both going down!”
With that, and after a few frustrated groans, Duncan decides that FINE, he does value Harold, even if it’s a small atom sized bit of him, he values Harold TRYING to make things up.
With that, they both retreat.
They climb out (without the awkward cut edit in canon) and as they get out with the box, they see all around them the Killer Grips, surrounding them, ready to charge. They see one pathway out for them to escape, only for Lindsey to stand in the way and on top of that hill, holding a dazed Tyler as she announces “I, administer Lindsey her hotness, hereby sentence you with treason, and that the box belongs to us!”
With that, all the Grips begin to charge at Harold and Duncan, ready to take them out. “Tyler?” Duncan scoffs briefly, “So much help you are!”
Harold pulls out the num-yos, asking Duncan what the plan is. Duncan scoffs that what is Harold going to do with those num-yos, and what follows is script wise the same scene where Harold uses the num-yos, plus Duncan using a blast from a crawling out skunk, to take out all the Grips at once, with the cloud of gas preventing the audience from seeing who caused what.
The change here is that since the Grips are coming from all sides in this version, Harold and Duncan don’t leave the box, instead circle around each other back to back in sync with each other.
Where just like in canon, the results are that the Gaffers win, and the Grips will be sending someone home, as well as the Gaffers receiving the treasures of the box, which is pretty much the same over the top parody scene that’s just hilarious to me and I’m fine with keeping it in.
We then cut to the elimination ceremony.
So now we reach the voting sessions, where the votes have been casted, and losers have been selected…
The awards go to Beth…
Lindsey…
Justin…
And Noah.
Which means that just like in canon, and FOR THE LAST TIME, Izzy the E-Scope Explosivo is OUTTA HERE.
I’m cutting out Justin’s confessional, because what he says there doesn’t make sense. Like, if Lindsey and Beth voted for him, that would mean Justin got two votes, and I highly doubt that in canon or in this rewrite, Owen and Noah would vote off Izzy when she’s a part of their side, with that logic, Justin would have been voted off unless Izzy voted off herself, which… I guess she IS crazy so it would make sense, but they never establish that. You get my point.
Regardless, Izzy’s out. For the last time. I’m serious this time. She’s out, she’s not coming back-
OKAY YOU GET IT. END OF EPISODE.
Episode 12: The Aftermath 2
The second Aftermath show begins similarly to the original, only with this context that Owen is here instead of Gwen. Yeah, because these Aftermath shows aren’t very plot driven and are just the characters hanging out, this dialogue is completely untouched until we reach ‘That’s gonna leave a mark.’ We don’t have Gwen hitting Harold in the head with a shovel as an example, because in this version she didn’t do that. Other than that, this is for the most part untouched.
We then cut to DJ who’s nervous about going out there. Owen is seated in a wheelchair with his teeth wired, where DJ is left pacing around unsure what to think about this. The producers have gone mad. Owen assures him they’re not gonna kill them out there, where DJ blankly stares at him, silently reminding him of his broken jaw. However, DJ’s attention is brought to camera when Bridgette tells him that his mama is here.
From there, Geoff and Bridgette go on to tell the story about DJ’s journey. He started out as a great contender and a strong man with such a big heart, that is until Chef recruited him in an alliance to change him in the promise he’d win. However, the guilt of the show got to DJ, to the point where he took Harold’s place and eliminated himself from the competition.
“If you ask me, it’s kind of uncalled for,” Geoff adds, “Chef was offering him an easy win and he declined it.”
DJ comes out on the stage, and Bridgette asks the same question about his integrity. DJ gives the same answer, but Geoff’s response to that answer is different. Instead he asks in confusion why a million bucks seem to mean NOTHING to people, or the game in general, granting Trent a nervous chuckle at that.
Unfortunately this means I have to cut out the cute Ezekiel moment since there’s no prompting for it here. As much as I like that for him.
Bridgette looks over at the script to wonder what time it is, only for Geoff to be revealed to have memorized everything on the script and asks if DJ really is being honest, prompting the anvil challenge.
“Wait, since what happened to the hammer?” Bridgette asks, where Geoff makes it clear that the producers thought an anvil would add more drama. TOTAL drama. They gave them both the new script. “You didn’t have to MEMORIZE it!” Bridgette counters in shock, prompting her and DJ’s ‘I’m not cool with this’ exchange.
Geoff asks the same question, DJ gives the same answer, and Bridgette stops things by running the untouched clip shows of DJ’s luxurious life. (I will say that I kind of wanted to emphasize this more, and tried to in the first part with the better food part, however this kind of wasn’t a focus of DJ’s arc this season, rather he was learning to stay true to himself, so I ended up not doing so.)
It’s untouched here though, especially with DJ’s mama giving Geoff what’s what and forcing the reveal of the truth clip.
Gotta love mama DJ.
After the clip, DJ helps out Geoff, who assures him that it’s a show, and thus a game. He doesn’t have anything to worry about, he’s just doing what the producers say. DJ then reminds Geoff that this is EXACTLY why he LEFT the game, to get away from control like this. Geoff however only recommends that DJ just be honest so that the anvil doesn’t hit him, it’s the least he can do.
Bridgette then stops the madness with the chef kid’s clip, (without Geoff complaining otherwise) And we also get the surprisingly untouched question and result of the secret ingredient.
What’s also surprisingly untouched is the Geoff and Bridgette sandwich exchange, UNTIL the ‘a minimal on the lips a lifetime on the hips’ line and Bridgette tackling him, which yes, is CUT.
Instead, Bridgette stammers that she thought Geoff loved these, only for Geoff to walk off the stage to get some air, with Bridgette following him, and thus DJ recommends the break.
Instead of the gross Chefshank Redemption clip, which… NO! We get a behind the scenes look in a makeup dresser where Geoff is looking through the scripts again, trying to memorize them. He tells himself that it’s just a game, that no one’s actually being hurt, and this gives views.
However, after accidentally dropping one paper, he picks it up, only to find some old scripts on that shelf. He looks into it, reading it to see a similar script of a young producer’s first show, being recommended to do several stunts to get high reviews. The person who received this old script used to be young and naive, as an aspiring celebrity who wanted to make a drama show of people in the world to film their compelling stories…
(I will give you guys a minute to figure out who this person is)
Bridgette knocks on the door to come in, and after she does she asks if things are okay. Geoff hides the script and claims that he’s fine, this is their dream he just… he just wants to make a good impression on tv. Bridgette assures him that they can just be themselves and not worry about the scripts, but Geoff counters that nobody… WANTS a simple party dude. Nobody finds that character compelling.
Bridgette claims that SHE wants a simple party dude, and kisses Geoff to calm him down, only for Geoff to back away soon after the kiss to express that he isn’t against the scripts as much as he thought. There IS something satisfying about a brutal edge to a show where people are put in danger.
“You’re not Chris, Geoff,” Bridgette proclaims, “You’ll never be Chris. So please don’t try.”
They get a producer off the camera telling them they have to come back, and as they do so, Bridgette asks “Have you been filming us the whole time we’ve been here?”
We cut to static, and we then cut to the stage where DJ is taking over the show by making a sandwich, proclaiming “And THAT’S how you make a delicious mama sandwich surprise. Thank you for all your support!”
Geoff and Bridgette come back, asking who the audience knows would love the sandwiches more than they do.
We then get a clip story regarding OWEN’S time on Action. (So far) The lovable guy was Island’s victor, and a fan favorite among everyone. Which certainly caught the attention of several campers, where everyone wanted a taste of his care and massive appetite. One of these campers was one of Island’s background characters, Noah, who took advantage of him to put Owen in an alliance against the other Grips. Owen however had his big heart overpower the manipulation and the thought of such, and valued Noah as a genuine friend… that is until Noah revealed his true colors. And OWEN had to pay the price of such revelation, receiving a broken jaw and was medevaced from the game.
“It’s such a shame,” Geoff claims, “I can’t believe Noah would sabotage poor Owen like that!”
Bridgette corrects, “He didn’t ‘sabotage Owen’ Geoff, It was an accident, they happen.”
To which Geoff counters “It was an accident that happened BECAUSE of him!”
With that, Owen comes out from his wheelchair, still with his teeth wired. He shakes it off and happily greets everyone, the camera guy pushing him out offering him a small shake and patting him on the shoulder in support before he leaves.
Immediately, Bridgette confesses that she is SO sorry about what happened to him, he deserved better. Geoff adds on that, saying that being robbed of a million bucks from an injury is uncalled for.
“Oh please, I already won last season,” Owen claims, “The only bad thing about this is that I can’t eat anymore and it’s…”
The camera man clears his throat as such, where Owen tries to apologize and make it clear “Your smoothies are great, man!”
Izzy then comes up to sit on his back and comfort him, with Owen accepting her company despite Geoff and Bridgette’s protest. Owen instead expresses how Izzy’s the best meal to soothe a broken jaw.
“How did you get through the doctors to come here?” Bridgette asks, where Owen explains that he didn’t. Chris loopholed their note and here, he technically isn’t in the action. Plus (with a brief camera shot to them holding drills) the doctors came as well.
Geoff changes the subject that it’s a shame he let a little guy get the best of him and brutalize him this much. Owen however acknowledges that it wasn’t Noah’s fault, the incident was an accident. “Even if he was using me, my little buddy would never hurt me.”
Geoff however isn’t cool with that answer and instead decides to prompt the anvil to spill more juice and drama out of that. A doctor comes over with a note to hand to Geoff to protest the use of the anvil on Owen, however Geoff crumbles the note and claims that Owen can handle anything they throw at him, and if they play things safe, they won’t get good ratings.
“Who cares about ratings when our friend’s already injured?” Bridgette protests, where Geoff makes it clear that as long as Owen gives them what they want, nothing’s gonna happen to him.
Owen is completely cool with an avail, telling a brief story about how a ton of frozen meats fell on his head in a grocery store as a kid when he tried to take some, and he was fine.
Trent recommends he speaks the truth, and ONLY the truth, prompting the cute Owen imagination confession about all the stuff he did as a kid (that in canon was in episode 18.) Which is cute and innocent enough that I’m perfectly fine with keeping it in. As well as everyone’s response to that.
Geoff asks who Owen blames for his broken jaw, and Owen says that he blames no one. He doesn’t really have an opinion of the event aside from the fact that his jaw HURT. And the anvil doesn’t budge.
Geoff tries to push it that he must have at least blamed Noah when he found out he was using him in an alliance. Owen says no. The anvil doesn’t budge.
Geoff asks if he blamed Chef. Owen says no. The anvil doesn’t budge.
Geoff becomes paranoid at this, the guy GOT HIS JAW BUSTED, WAS ROBBED OF A MILLION BUCKS, and he’s NOT mad in the slightest?!
Bridgette tries to stop this, but Geoff promises that one more question and he’s done. He then asks what Owen thinks his biggest problem is, and Owen confesses that his biggest problem might be that he doesn’t live up to he strategic standpoint of being a winner that anyone thinks. Or perhaps if that’s not the case, it’s probably his obsession with dairy.
Geoff however doesn’t take that answer, and tells the story about how his mom blew fifty grand because last season she thought Owen would win the money, and we also get the untouched guest exchange with Owen’s mom, that again, in canon, was in episode 18.
Geoff, like in canon, freaks out about how Owen isn’t mad at all, only here after Owen’s response to that, Geoff brings up that Owen was USED. Noah USED him just to get back at Justin.
From there, we get a brief recap about how the brains and the beauty of the Killer Grips have been at it since episode 1, and made their own alliances to separate the team. These two are equally lying, manipulative, ruthless schemers who destroyed several relationships, like with Trent’s elimination, Gwen and her team, and Justin and Noah both removed Owen himself from the competition entirely.
Owen however claims “Noah’s not that bad. Schemer, true, but he’s such a good friend.”
Geoff asks if that’s true, showing an unseen clip of Owen and Noah.
In it, Owen, Izzy, and Noah are by the trailer grounds, Noah standing firm as a military captain, strictly ordering the two and poking a stick at them for not paying attention. Both Owen and Izzy laugh off this behavior and even talk away about Noah’s plan to prank Justin and put mold in his bed. It gets to a point where Owen and Izzy chat happily about that idea and how hilarious it’ll be, and the two make out. Noah again pokes them both with the stick and then snaps it in half, bitterly demanding them to listen to him!
The clip pauses as Geoff expresses that “Yeah, you guys seem like GREAT friends. Slapping each other with sticks, bossing them around…”
“Okay, sure…” Owen decides, with Izzy happily nodding at his words “But he’s smiling around us.” “It’s such a rare sight to be seen!” Izzy exclaims happily, “Almost like when I saw a Griffin!!”
They play the clip further, and Owen instead laughs off Noah and claims he’s funny. Noah only acknowledges that he’s just being honest, he doesn’t get why he won if he’s this… immature.
Owen however claims that he doesn’t know how he won last season himself, instead telling Noah that he just values everyone, including Noah himself. Owen grasps Noah’s hand as a sign of friendship, and Noah ends up smiling genuinely at that before telling him “Praise any aspect of me, praise my skills as a leader, that’s what everyone else does.”
“But that gets boring!” Izzy compliments, wrapping her arms around Noah. Owen then pulls them both in a tight hug, and all three of them end up smiling.
“See? We’re all buddies here!” Owen tells them in the present. “Really, the one thing I don’t get is his beef with Justin, like, who could hate someone as hot as that?!”
The tv shows several sexy poses of Justin, which Owen admires. Izzy wraps her arms around Owen’s neck, and in response, he hugs back and tells her that he still values her love for Izzy.
The audience ‘awwww’s at that, prompting Bridgette to recommend to Geoff a tame lookback at all the couples on the show, which they oblige.
Bridgette and Geoff themselves,
Owen and Izzy, the crazy but delightful duo,
Lindsey and Tyler, despite being on opposite teams, they do everything for each other without a second thought, maybe because their brains don’t process a second thought,
Beth and Brady… who cares?
Leshawna still can’t make up her mind about Harold, who’s still head over heels for her, “I mean she keeps the letters but doesn’t ask him out?”,
And there’s also Duncan and Gwen-
“Wait…” Bridgette realizes as she stops the camera, with the Tv paused to the image of Duncan and Gwen locking eyes and dancing in each other’s arms back in episode 4 of this rewrite.
“Did you add that?” Bridgette asks, where Geoff claims “Uh… maybe?”
Courtney immediately gets up in anger to protest that NO! THAT SHIP IS NOT CANON.
“HE HAS ME! Remember?!”
Trent also gets up to agree with that, claiming that Gwen told him they were just friends.
“I mean…” DJ speaks up, “I don’t completely approve of Duncan’s… antics, but if Gwen’s happy, then who cares?” Owen also chimes in to agree with him before grabbing another smoothie.
The two are stopped however by the anvil crashing, and DJ is barely able to push Owen out of the way in time.
Courtney however decrees that NO, she’s WATCHED this show for TOO LONG. Those two are NOT A THING, and no twisting of logic can convince her otherwise!
“Not like you can do anything about it Courtney,” Bridgette remarks, where Courtney then pulls out her phone and claims “We’ll see about that…” Before storming out the door.
Watching her leave, Brigette decides to hang things up for today, as they all do so.
However as the show fades out, we have a brief staticy camera from outside the studio at night.
Courtney reveals herself as she’s recording this on her phone, holding several papers in her other hand. In it, she threatens,
“I made it a part of my lawsuit to put this in the episode. I was robbed last season, I was cheated out by a dork, and now that I’ve been gone, Duncan’s lost his way. He’s LOST who he is, I could blame her, I couldn’t, either way works…
…but the point is, I need to set things right. STARTING NOW.”
The camera cuts off, end of the episode.
And that’s where we’re going to leave things for today. As you can probably tell, there’s no set schedule for these parts to come out, and I want to thank you all for the support given to this project. Also know that you guys are free to reply down below any friendly notes, criticisms, or just something you want to say. I will do my best to address anything you guys say, whether I admit that you’re right and that I goofed somewhere, or defend myself and some of my more… controversial writing choices. Courtney, BY FAR, is the hardest character to write for this project, but I am excited to start with her inclusion and how she shakes up the game. So feel free to tune in next time on TOTAL. DRAMA.
