THE MOON DRAGON TURNS HIMSELF INTO A CONVENTIONALLY ATTRACTIVE ELF TO FUCK CLAUDIA IN THE NEW SEASON
As someone that never finished the series pst season 2 (or maybe it was 3? It was the season where everything seemed kinda wrapped up when they got Zym to the border and the cliff hanger was Claudia reviving her father) I am SHOCKED to learn that show got SEVEN SEASON?? On NETFLIX????? The site INFAMOUS for killing shows in the second season??? Idk why but for some reason I thought the secrets of aavoros was a one season spin off an never watched it or paid attention to closely but with The Dragon King trailer coming out I was like “oh wow they’re making even more spin offs let me check out that other series” Um. No so who was gonna tell me that there was no spin off just a weird time skip and direct continuation of the original story line but. Worse??? I’m probably preaching to the choir here but for a show with a shit load of seasons the politics and world building are cold spaghetti bland. ALSO SOREN MY BOY??? The fandom infantalized him…BUT IN CANON??????????
Anyhow even when the show initially came out I feel like it/its reception took itself too seriously, like it was trying to sit on the foundation of “These are the people who wrote Avatar!!!” But then never quite delivered anything as interesting (or, quite frankly, as *good as*) as ATLA. In fact, I’ve discovered that anytime ANY show tries to “be as good as” another show, they end up missing the mark because the writers try to prop themselves on the assumption that they can write something with more complexity because they “did it before” but they then fail to build the essential traits of a good story because they’re too busy trying to piss around writing fantasy racism or trauma arcs to be more adult and edgy and complex and cool. Anyhow it’s not the worst show I’ve seen but I see your Hazbin Hotel comparison soooo well your opinions are correct and gold standard
Indeed, 'twas s3 that ended that first arc! After was when most people jumped ship because of the 3 year hiatus between seasons, and, yes, the confusing pivot into incomprehension in s4 (arc 2, AKA The Mystery of Aaravos) turned a ton of fans away as well, including me. Imo you're right, you could tell Netflix and Wonderstorm were banking HARD on the ATLA branding, what with the entire TDP show constantly making references to it, so they greenlit the 7 seasons right away (allegedly, according to an ex-Wonderstorm-employee, the creators claimed they were getting renewed season by season). However, at the same time they acquired the ATLA rights, and years later TDP was not renewed for the extra s8-10 they wanted (arc 3, AKA the possible new show The Dragon King). As of right now, ATLA has 61 episodes and TDP has 63. ATLA managed to tell three entire arcs and conclude the series wonderfully, while TDP "completed" 2 arcs but somehow failed to conclude most of the basic storylines from arc 1 properly, and they keep saying they will do it next time, so please spread the word so we can get renewed for the next 3 seasons!!! It took us SEVEN SEASONS to establish basic rules of the magical system. SEVEN SEASONS for the big bad to be killed, only he isn't killed, he is gonna be back for TDK. Watching the writers pretending like they have a plan where this story is going is like watching headless chickens running around.
And you said it so well, the creators are so high on their own ATLA success (it has been 20 years since then, mind you) that they forgot to like. Write a good show. I don't think anyone in the world can watch TDP and properly recount the moral lessons the show is trying to convey, because it is such a hypocritical mess of half-baked ideas about the cycles of violence and environmental issues that even the characters themselves can't keep track of their own opinions. It's oh-so-deep and thoughtful and needs a TV-14 rating, BUT the writing itself is aimed at 7 year olds, because I don't think Soren's character decline from "unloved son willing to murder children for his father" to "overgrown 3 year old" could possibly apply to any other demographic. Truly, the same goes for all the characters, I don't think a single person in the show managed to fulfill their original potential and they only became more and more boring as time went on. I can't wait to see them dabble in adult writing, I truly cannot
Anyway can you tell I have a lot of thoughts and opinions and spend way too much time thinking about this show haha it is not obvious at all huh
That creature in the silver queen teaser is the beloved pet of the dead moon archdragon Luna Tenebris. Idr how Callum and Rayla calmed it down from its grief-fueled rampage I think it the power of love or some shit. But seeing Claudia create an elaborate illusion of this pet's owner whom it misses dearly and thus bonding this creature to herself is like ok girl WHAT are you planning. Idgaf about the other trailers I'm here for Claudia
Yeah, I remembered it was a pet, but all else was GONEEEEE from my brain lololol. It was the same arc as the candy decoy plot, and I spent all my brainpower on waiting for the most obvious switcharoo ever to be revealed. It was also the ppwer of love TM bullshit arc and I was just. Sitting there. Wondering if the writers understand that keeping Rayla safe can't be both Callum's reason to be immoral AND to keep his morality in check. ANYWAYYYY ayyy I hope you get more Claudia in the future then!
I can't believe they waited 6 more seasons to do anything interesting with Ezran
Ikr, this season he finally felt like a character instead of a plush toy!!! Wow!!! It was so funny bc last season I kept expecting him and Callum to fall out... I had this feeling that that was where it was all leading... And NOTHING happened... So when it happened this season and for such a dumb stupid reason I was like. Well. It's clear this is gonna last like 0.5 seconds and then they will be bros again. I feel no tension or wonder at this, too little too late. But that is basically every relationship on the show summed up, they all have interesting setups, but the story is too scared to show the "good" characters making real mistakes to actually weave any compelling arcs or relationships out of it. I can't believe they set up Ezran building anti dragon technology and Zym being afraid of it and then it was never addressed again
I am glad I forgot to keep watching TDP because wow does it sound like they made the worst choices for a lot of characters TT-TT
Your sacrifice is appreciated
I wouldn't even say ''the worst'', since I can see what they WANTED to accomplish, it's just that they forgot that the journey from point A to point B is way more important than the points themselves. The characters are just ragdolls thrown down the stairwell that is the plot points and character moments the writers want to accomplish. But yes, I was ready to check out of this hotel like 3 seasons ago, so thank you for appreciating my sacrifice 🫡
So I haven't seen tdp in a long time (gave up after season 3 I think?) but it sounds like the show is going off the rails and does want to be like animated game of thrones. Or at least wants to be seen as an adult show despite it originally being for kids? They even have an EP called "the red wedding".
You are correct, I can't find the interview but they have been branding themselves as "GoT for kids" since s1, and also said this. When I saw that episode title I was like "If this wedding ends with every single attendee dead, I will take back everything mean I've said about the show" and then not a single person was even hurt, and that is this show in a nutshell
