Hey, Portland folks! Curious Gallery hasn't yet arisen from its ashes, but another great local event is returning for a one-day appearance! GEAR Con, Portland's Steampunk convention, will be featuring a day of mad art, weird science, and adversarial tea-time (attention, tea duellers!) this upcoming Saturday, September 30, from 12pm - 9pm. Tea Dueling? Tea Dueling!
Maybe you've heard of Dame Ursula Whiffenpott, the extraordinary Tiffenmaster of Denver and the surrounding areas? Perhaps you've always wanted to try your hand at Tea Duelling?
Look no further! AnomalyCon hosted the first Tea Duel of the United States back at AnomalyCon 2012 under BB Blackdog's tutelage, and we're proud to uphold the tradition. If you want to watch but don't wish to participate, on Saturday afternoon our celebrity authors and artists will battle to the DEATH (or to the biscuit, at least). Trophies and prizes will be awarded.

My mum and dad visit Steampunk fairs (fayres?). I knew they were working on costumes, but now my mum has taken part in a Tea Duelling Competition.
The rules are basically: the Pot Master pours the tea, the Tiffin Master provides a tray of biscuits and asks the Dunkers to “choose your weapon”, the Dunkers take a biscuit, the Tiffin Master commands “Dunk”, biscuits are dunked for the count of five, biscuits are then held before being "Nomed”. The winner is the one who gets a clean Nom last, or the one whose biscuit does not crumble.
That’s obviously the brief version. It is far more serious than that. You need an Honourable Association of Tea Duellists, for example.
My mum apparently made it through to the finals, and just lost out to a previous winner!
