Three years ago, my dog went viral on Imgur and Reddit, thanks to this picture I took right after she’d yanked down a post from the front of our house with her bare strength.
But like the image above says, this is not a good post.
That dog above, the one that made so many people laugh, her name is Eva, and she’s my 7-year-old lab. She was just diagnosed with canine lymphoma.
Without chemo, she only has 3 months left with us. But her oncologist has given her a good prognosis with chemotherapy. She could live to see her 9th, 10th, and even 11th birthday.
Which means more years of this happy, ridiculous puppy.
The price to extend her life? $8500.
I nearly died when I saw the number. I’m paying off 4 student loans right now, and my parents are in insurmountable debt. I thought, this is it, we’re screwed. In between crying spells and anxiety attacks, I realized what my choices were: give up and let Eva go in the next 3 months, or crowdfund my ass off.
Internet: you’ve done it before, now I’m begging you, do it again. Spread Eva like wildfire. She deserves a second chance. She deserves the extra time, and all the fun and happiness she’ll have in that time.

Just make sure you iron them out before the final draft. Make sure you do your homework. Make sure your early readers include people who are a part of the culture you’re writing about. Make sure your editor has the insider knowledge to help you out. If they don’t, consider hiring a freelance editor who does.
Also, it’s okay if stereotypes emerge in the first drafts of your colleagues. Correct them – definitely correct them – but do so in a spirit of generosity. Remember how soul-wrenching the act of writing is, how much courage it took for that writer to put words down on a page.

luke only knew ben for like twelve hours, how could he possibly have gotten good enough in the force to bullseye the death star exhaust port, at speed, while taking enemy fire, in so short a time
for that matter how could he even fly an x-wing into combat and survive without relevant experience, with or witbout the force
like, sure he used to bullseye womp rats in beggers canyon at speed in his little snub plane, and technically those are directly comparable skills, but it can’t be that simple, can it?
oh wait IT TOTALLY WAS, BACK IN 1977
and technically it’s not even that he had to learn how to use the force to augment his existing skills, but rather, all ben had to do was show him that he had already been doing that the whole time
and that’s why, even as a young man - like his father before him - he had unnatural skill at the things he was doing anyways, and was able to translate that preexisting ability with using the force //unconsciously// into some truly impressive directed actions

anyways i wrote this on christmas and the movie had only been out a week so i didn’t want to spoil ‘rey gets the lightsaber and WHUPS HIS ASS’ but yeah, so many ppl all ‘rey could not possibly have done these cool things just like luke and anakin did’ meanwhile poe dameron shoots down eleven tie fighters and takes out a dozen specific dudes on the ground in maybe thirty seconds, and nobody ever said a word about how ridiculous that was.
tldr everyone is force sensitive until luke skywalker says otherwise.
