Update: 1st Week As A Teacher's Assistant At Astor Elementary In North Portland Y'all are probably going to have to get used to these, but i'll try and keep them timely and infrequent. Pretty much everyone who works w/ kids in any way seem to have the, "Check out how weird/awesome kids are!" post, once a week (at the least). So far, my TA job is going swimmingly, and i am loving it! i'm learning to be patient, understanding, firm & in control but never harsh, direct, un-nervous, cool, interesting, and fun. It's good practice, for pretty much everything. So far, i've: - had a child ask me, "On a scale of 1 to 10, how creepy would you say this is?" (It was an 8, and I was proud) - had another child draw me a green reindeer, my first drawing, which went immediately on the fridge. Already amassing a collection, and i'm stoked like crazy! I could never dream of getting rid of any of them. (that'll likely be different in a month) - Helped create a hoodie fort on the playground - Played "color tag" - Helped dig up dinosaur egg-sized stones out of hills of dirt and cedar chips. There's also this little boy who's super sensitive, and basically just walks around at recess wailing and weeping, while going about his business. Playing tag and collecting rocks, sobbing the whole time, might be the closest equivalent to my actual life. I feel ya, kiddo. Stay posted, y'all. #jsimpson #teachersassistant #kidsaremagic #fun #imagination #inspiration #NorthPortland #AstorElementary #personal #notesfromtheroad #firstdayofschool #firstweekofschool #growingup #foreveryoung #friendshipismagic #creepy #colortag
