ooc;; trying to get more active on here! If you and I had an old thread together, and you are interested in continuing it, hit that heart!
If we had an old thread, and you’re not feeling it anymore, no need to interact at all! No worries.
If we don’t have any threads yet, but you’re interested in interacting or plotting, drop a comment or shoot me a pm!
Teaching is
Needing a wee for 8 hours straight but not having time to go.
Teaching is
Loving all the children in your class - even the one who kicked you so hard it left a bruise.
Teaching is
Leaving school at 5:20 with 3 class sets of books still to mark. Stopping working at 5 to 10 after a hasty dinner because you need to wash your hair and get a good nights sleep ready to go again tomorrow.
I’m not sure if I like having so many epiphanies at 5 in the morning @.@
I truly feel that [teaching] remains a great career for those with the heart, time and patience for our youth. It is a career where you not only teach, but you are also an advocate. I love my career. I still believe in teaching. I still believe in public education in this country. I became a teacher because I had to -- I have to teach as much as I have to breathe. Teaching, as crazy, challenging, frustrating and miserable as it can be, makes me feel fully me. It connects me to my students, community and the world around me in a way that nothing else can. Would I do it all over again if I knew what I know now? I sure would. I am a teacher and like all fellow teachers … we don’t give up easily! Maybe someday I’ll be ready to hang it up or advance, but even when that day comes, I won’t regret any of the days that came before.
Emily Rodriguez, 6-8 special education teacher at High Horizons Magnet School in Bridgeport, CT
