hello! I’ve had one (1) singular thought and I wanna tell you about it using the most atrocious language skills known to man :D
Tomorrow is L'Hopital day and one of the more experienced TAs pointed out that if you say dominant vs submissive when comparing the growth rates, your students *will not* forget. However, that comes with a price.
And. I mean. Can't disagree with that wisdom.
(He did not say whether that price is worth it or not.)
Guys, my heart is so full.
I'm doing a project with both my 9th grade classes in which they have to draw/paint/do a collage of something that represents who they are.
I was walking around the classroom to check on their progress and I saw that the quietest girl in one group drew the lesbian pride flag; one of the quietest boys drew a theater stage with a bunch of musicals written and so I found out that his favorite musical is Wicked (same as mine!) and he dreams of playing the role of Glinda (for real, guys, I almost cried because it was the first time he ever spoke in class! He was gleaming!!). And one other boy who barely speaks drew a man with a bow and arrow, and by talking to him I figured out he practices archery which I also used to do.
This is by far one of my favorite projects. I'm learning so much about my students and I'm loving it.

Man sometimes (like now, at 1:30am) I remember some of the absolutely batshit stuff I said to students in my first year of teaching, all delivered in the exhausted deadpan of someone who is just barely hanging on by a thread, with highlights like:
“I don’t have Snapchat, I only have Dogchat. It’s where you create a profile for your dog so they can chat with other neighborhood dogs”
“What if the moon is actually an egg and it’s going to hatch soon?” (don’t remember if I admitted to them that I’d just blatantly ripped this off Doctor Who)
“I only exist within the walls of this room. I just pop out of existence when you leave the room and then re-materialize when it’s time for class.”
A month ago my teen male student asked me (after asking my permission) how does sex feel like. I told him I’m asexual and he didn’t know what does that mean. I spent the next 20 minutes explaining what asexual is and he’s like: wow there are a lot that I don’t know...
