Paceline Practice in Portland
Well, I'm not much of a roadie. Either in strength or tequnique. Except when it comes to anything technical, in mtb or cross. Then the term "roadie" fits my skills.
But yesterday Sharon, Susannah and I joined the road and track team Word-RCB by Cyclisme on an hour-long paceline practice. We didn't push it, we just rode slow and practiced staying close on a wheel. Just like in track season, I'm still uncomfortable with riding that close behind another person. Oh, well, I'll catch on after a while. My only goal on the road next year is being in the pack till the sprint finish once at PIR.
We had a great time visiting with some friends we've barely seen since track season ended in August. We had fun practicing bunny hopping with nine-year-old Greg in a parking lot when we stopped for tacos (thanks, John, for the tacos).
Also, thank you John for being so supportive, encouraging, and giving us tips on becoming more smooth and comfortable with the peleton. Thanks, Tim for all the help with changing my tire when I got a staple in it near the end of the ride; I know how to do this stuff, I'm just really slow. Thank you Greg for your help with my brakes. You know a lot more about this stuff than me.
Overall we had a great day, and I hope to join you again sometime after cross is over. But for now, Psycho Cross here we come!
