Luigi's the real hero

I've been playing Mario Party on my 3DS for some time now (say, 36 hours) and one thing I notice is that when playing as Mario, Luigi's always second place. But when I play Luigi, Mario takes the last place ALL the time... I don't know if that's just the game programming or just the stats I've been rolled, but it seems too consistent to be just a random thing. Also, playing as Luigi gives me an intense hatred for any progress Mario makes, but I'm sure that's just a side effect.
