The fact that Steve is seen as the bad guy in s1 for two or three weird comments but no one ever talks about how weird Jonathan was for taking those pictures. And it makes me think just how much some people lack media literacy and just follow whatever the screen tells them is correct. Those people saw Nancy stay calm and forgive Jonathan for that way too fast and easy and they just assumed that meant it wasn't a big deal and made Steve the bad guy in that scene instead. But if you just think for yourself for 2s you can clearly tell Steve was 100% right. It shouldn't be up for debate? Jonathan invaded his and his friends privacy by taking pictures of them in his PRIVATE property and on top of that he also took a picture of his gf undressing??? Like breaking his camera was light work if you ask me.
Now I'm not saying Steve was perfect, he did say weird shit and those comments about Jonathan's family right before they fought were out of pocket and bad.
But I also think people exaggerate how much of a character development he has. You can clearly tell he has a good heart in s1 and just hung out with the wrong crowd. That's why his 'development' seems so natural, bc it was! Because that Steve was always there.
Stancy is bad but it has nothing to do with how bad Steve was in s1 bc if one thing's clear is that he always cared for Nancy. His issues in s1 were never about how much he loved her or how he treated her.
“that sounds like a nightmare.”
- Nancy Wheeler on whether or not she would like to have six children and live on a farm with Steve Harrington
I think one reason why some people (not at all so please don’t attack me) is because people find Steve to be more attractive than Jonathan. I’ve seen so many comments like that and it’s bit sad honestly. Like when season four dropped and some people were going feral over Henry before learning he’s Vecna. Steve and Nancy both have grown, but they are better apart and make as good friends despite being exes. Being friends after being exes is different and they show it a nice respectful way. I also think they see Steve as the hero that can save Nancy as he’s always saving the kids. Even though Nancy has shown she can handle herself in most situations.
While I will occasionally agree the chemistry with Nancy and Jonathan may occasionally seem dry, but I think this is more a writer and decisions thing. To me they just seem like a couple comfortable with each other and trust one another. As if you think about it, Nancy and Jonathan knew each other through their brothers. Not close friends, but Jonathan clearly had a crush on her for a long time before the events of season 1. Because as well the two actors are a committed real life couple, but they may also play the angle of who will be Nancy’s final choice just to tease the fans from photos and show direction. As well the two characters were doing a long distance during a time where they only had phone calls and letters. Second, their relationship, neither is the love triangle, is not the main plot so of course we are not going to get EVERY aspect of their relationship. Throughout the show we see Jonathan letting Nancy shine and supporting her in her aspirations. His main goals are somewhat similar to hers as they both want to college. Different colleges sure, but they have experience with long distance before. Or they may change their minds as if you remember Jonathan originally wanted a college in New York over California. Hell there may not even be a college for Nancy to go to by S5. Personally I feel some of the fandom wants Steve and Nancy together as they may find Steve more conventionally attractive than Jonathan.
Steve deserves love of course, but if he’s with Nancy I feel it would be like how Nancy’s parents are. Especially after seeing his little confession in season 4. Which first that was out line and disrespectful towards her relationship. You wouldn’t want your friend even if an ex basically saying they still love you as your in a little distant and rough patch in the relationship. But Steve’s future dreams does not align with Nancy’s with the big family and big house. This is something Nancy and the show made clear back in season one it is not something she wants. As well he should move on. She wasn’t the first girl he dated but she was more likely his first love. While Nancy and Jonathan were each other’s first love.
And before anyone brings up the whole photograph thing and Steve going along with the slut shaming of Nancy. Yes they both hurt and insulted Nancy in a way. But it is clear Nancy has forgiven them both even if the writers chose not to go in a deep dive of the photos and the slut shaming. The photos were bad, but so was Steve allowing his friends to insult his current girlfriend/fling just because his ego got hurt and he didn’t even talk to Nancy about it in the morning just did what he did at the theater. As well Steve did could not understand Nancy’s pain in S2 as he just wanted to move on. He had a good idea but he went about it wrong. Jonathan knew how Nancy felt. He probably felt similar when he lost his brother and understood the need for answers and getting something out there to warn people.
Jonathan and Nancy do have a little rough patch in S3 but both had understanding points. Jonathan comes from a tax bracket where you have to work and it can difficult to get a good job. While Nancy can get in doors, but she will always be held back for being an independent woman. But then when shit hits the fan Jonathan helps Nancy again and even tries to get her out before El took care of a part of the midnflayer. And they could have broken Nancy and Jonathan up when he was moving to Cali. Instead they wrote it to where they have a long distance. And to me it seems Nancy hasn’t seen Steve a lot from after that to when she does see Steve in S4.
Either way both guys, would die for Nancy if it came to it.
"The Steve/Nancy/Jonathan love triangle is the reason I watch and enjoy Stranger Things"... SAID NOBODY EVER!
Please release my girl, you don't deserve her.

If you think Nancy should be endgame with steve or Jonathan respectfully shut up because that woman does not want to settle down early she wants to build her career and be independent before even thinking about marriage
i HATE whatever jonathan and steve have going on in season 5… atp they can both serve as a snack for the demogorgon
