Second Biggest Wasted Opportunity in "Coda"
There are many things I would change about the mid-season finale. MANY THINGS.
But taking the episode at face-value, and going with the assumption that Beth is dead, why didn't we at least get a scene between her and Carol after Carol woke up? That is the second biggest misstep in the whole thing. Regardless of how it ended, this was the scene that we were waiting for - Beth reunited with her family - and we were denied it.
Now, maybe that was the point, but why? If Beth is dead anyway, why not show us the one person that she did get to speak to before she died. Carol was like a mother to her. At the very least like an aunt or older sister. They loved each other dearly. If we have to be denied Beth reuniting with Maggie and Daryl and Rick and Carl and Judith, why couldn't we have at least gotten a scene with her and Carol. Carol letting her know that Maggie was okay. That all of her family was okay. That Daryl was moving mountains to get her back.
Honestly, it would have made her death all the more poignant. Knowing that she was going to be able to see her people again.
The only reason I can come up with, is it would have made her choice to try and kill Dawn appear that much stupider. Because why would she risk anything knowing that all her family is so close by.
But it doesn't lessen the stupidity. At all. Just because we don't see it, we still have to assume that the reunion scene and Carol filling her in took place. SO WHY NOT SHOW IT TO US. I'd much rather that scene than the ten minutes we had with Father Gabriel.

If you know every actor in this post (like I do), we officially become besties.
Mom: *noticed me in a daze* “Maddie, what’s wrong?”
Me: “Nothing.”
Mom: *gives the famous unimpressed look*
Me: “All I want is to become best friends with Norman Reedus, meet the whole cast. I MEAN THE WHOLE CAST. I want to have a thing with Chandler because we’re almost the same age and Norman is out of the question even though I would do amazing things to that body, have fun on set, get a part on the Walking Dead (even if it was just for one episode), sing with Em, drink apple cinnamon tea and have a British conversation with Andy, go shopping with Mel (because she’s so fab), crack jokes with Danai (because she seems like the type who loves a good joke), hang out with Greg, tell him all about my fantasies and wishes, hold Sonequa’s baby, do the dougie with Chad let’s be honest, every black guy knows that dance, play bored games with Alanna and lose every game (because she seems like a competitive person), talk about relationships problems with Steven (because you know that guy has no problem sharing that), go to an amusement park with Lauren (because that girl has balls of steel), go paint balling with Micheal, Christian, and Josh and watch Josh run and hide like a little bitch, become the half sister of Madison and take a bunch of selfies together, go to the medieval times festival with Andrew J. West and Lawrence and eat a massive amount of turkey legs and scream "TANITED MEAT" before each bite (TOO SOON?), go to Monster Jam with Micheal Rooker and Jon Berthal (because you can tell they like that shit), go with Scott to the mall around Christmas time (preferably on a Wednesday) and take a photo with Santa, then make awesome spaghetti and post it on Instagram with the quote "I hereby declare we have spaghetti Tuesdays every Wednesday.” Go crash a wedding in Vegas with Seth, Sarah, Irone, Jerffery, Laurie, David, and Lennie. Go on Talking Dead, play the walker game with Chris Chadwick, fangirl about Caryl with Yvette. Oh and take Emma to go see Ed Shreean with me because everyone loves a ginger who can sing. Is that too much to ask?”
Mom: “Yes, yes it is.”
I just keep thinking about all Beth and Carol and everyone has done to survive. And all the people that they have had to fight through to keep alive. And Rick's words just ring so true. "You're screwing with the wrong people."
I have more friends on tumblr than I do here in New Orleans. Because these chicks here in New Orleans treat me like some backwards hick from Alabama who doesn't know crap, and they don't invite me to any of their parties.
But you know what?
I may be some backwards hick from Alabama, but by George I know how to shoot a gun, hunt/grow my own food, store/preserve my own food, how to make my own clothes, and how to build shelter.
SO YEAH GUESS WHAT I'LL HAVE MY OWN TEAM PRISON WHEN YOU STUPID PURPLE PEOPLE EATERS ARE STICKING PEOPLE IN TRAIN CARS AT TERMINUS.
Yeah, suck on that.
Defending Team Prison
I like Beth. She's one of my favourite characters on The Walking Dead, and a lot of it is because I think if I were thrown into a zombie apocalypse, my skill set would be close to the same as hers.
That being said, I don't think Maggie and Team Prison Family is at all wrong for not going out looking for her. Why? Because where would they look? Seriously. The only clue they currently have is that she was kidnapped by a car with a cross on it. Okay. Say there was a car you saw two weeks ago about 15 miles (25 km) from your current location with a bumper sticker on it that you liked. Go find that car. I'll wait here until you get back.
That's crazy talk, yes? So why do people think that it's reasonable for the family to go look for her? It's completely unreasonable.
And as for Maggie and Glenn, I am upset at them for splitting off. Not because they haven't found Beth yet, but because they're willingly separating from the family in a world where it's not just possible, but entirely likely that they'll NEVER see their family again. They didn't know that when Daryl and Carol took off they were chasing after Beth, so I don't blame them for that, but this is their family. Even if Rick's being slightly insane, they shouldn't break up the group. Especially when they JUST got back together earlier this week.
I wanna talk about Team Prison and how goddamn resilient they all are. They needed Carol's help to get out, but it's not like they didn't fight their way out of Terminus all the same. Rick, Daryl, Maggie, Michonne, Carl, Glenn, Bob, Sasha, Abraham, and Rosita [though not technically team prison]... not so much Eugene, but I'm sure he has his uses. They all fought like hell, fashioning makeshift weapons to use to escape. Terminus really was screwing with the wrong people.
And let's raise a glass to Beth, who we know would have fought just as hard to escape with her family or to help free them, if she'd been there with them. I'm sure that she is going to make her family proud when we see her in her own episode (I think it'll be her own episode).
