“The Riptide Crew”

Wanted in each of the 4 Kingdoms to at least some degree, The Riptide Crew is a Sky Pirate group that travels Remnant pillaging and terrorizing civilians and public authorities alike.

They recently crossed paths with a Hunting-Group named “Queen Victoria”, and had one of their vessels stolen by the Huntsmen. Said vessels served as storage to stolen Atlasian Weaponry, and now the Riptide Crew is on the chase to get their goods and aircraft back.

And get even too...

Team Placement + Travel Mapping

Team VCTA: Introduced in Volume 1.They had a rocky start in the beginning of the school-year, mainly due to Aias refusal to accept Viola’s assignment as  Team Leader in his stead.As the months went by, it became increasingly more obvious Aias was holding his team back and, during VCTA’s first mission, he is forced to acknowledge his leader after Viola’s leadership saved the team from a possibly deadly situation.

Volume 4: After the fall of Beacon, VCTA ops to not seek further training in the other Hutnsment Academies and become an official Hunting Party by the name of “Queen Victoria”, recruiting Fenris Arguros from LASL and traveling the kingdom. 

Months later, a particular mission causes them to clash with a Sky Pirate crew, resulting in Queen Victoria stealing one of their ships and setting to Atlas to return stolen weaponry the Pirates had in that ship. 

There, they are warned by General Ironwood that the people behind Beacon’s fall might attack Haven next, and they should stay at Atlas Academy. Refusing the offer, Queen Victoria sets sail to Mistral, to warn both Mistral’s council and and Viola’s adoptive father, of the danger.

Team LASL: Introduced in Volume 1. Sister team to VCTA, but unlike their other half, LASL never did take off as a team.As Mundo would painfully learn down the line, Professor Ozpin had chosen Donna as LASL’s leader(Team SFOM, at the time), but Donna herself had convinced the Headmaster to pick him prior the ceremony.

Being childhood friends, Mundo and Donna worked well together, but Mundo was never able to get Fenris or Lilly’s to listen to him. The Breaching before their first mission came almost as a blessing, as teams that had yet to leave  were ordered to stay and protect the city, saving Mundo from more failure.

Volume 4: With no Academy to hold them together, Team LASL disbands. Lilly returns to Atlas, Fenris joins VCTA, and while Donna and Mundo stay together, Mundo’s feelings of failure and regret cause him to leave on his own, as to spare Donna of the burden.

Team ELFN: Introduced in Volume 2. A 4th Year Team, they befriend VCTA and LASL after watching one of their sparring sessions. ELFN is a very promising and well-regarded team among the Academy’s Staff and Students, and are a strong contender to win the tournament at the end of the year.

Their leader, Edward, tries to be a mentor to the new trainees and takes a special interest in Mundo’s predicament. Sadly for the pair, missions and training keep Edward from preventing LASL ultimate demise.

Volume 4: As the last graduating class Beacon Academy would have, possibly forever, a lot of responsibility fell upon that year’s Senior students. That was specially true to ELFN, as they were the biggest asset that class had to offer.

ELFN had barelly any time to breath after the Academy’s destruction before they were buried in missions, putting their Team Leader under massive pressure and stress.

Team OSRS: Introduced in Volume 2. One of the several exchange-student teams to travel to Vale for the Vytal Festival. Right off the ship, they had problems that quickly escalated. OSRS arrival was an untimely meeting between the Luna twins, and a great source of grief for the pair’s teams. And family.

As luck would have it, OSRS and VCTA were pit against each other during the tournament, serving as an opportunity for the twins to vent their feelings towards each other. Their fight did not heal all their wounds, but served as a first step.

Volume 4:  Lucca was reluctant to return to Vacuo and leave his brother behind with all that chaos, but with the intervention of their father, he was persuaded to resume his training at Shade Academy. Yet, Lucca and his Team still felt unease, fearing Shade Academy might be next on the terrorists’ list.

Team RBCT and Team HBNR: Introduced in Volume 4. Ramon was a close friend to Team VCTA, knowing Fernando most of their childhood and meeting the other members through that friendship. After Beacon’s Fall he managed to convince Queen Victoria to let him travel with them, as his dreams of entering Beacon were dashed with the Academy’s destruction. Helena, Aias’ little sister,  simply sneaked into the Queen’s ship when they left for Atlas, not giving them a chance to turn her down.

Volume 4:As Queen Victorial Traveled from Vale to Atlas, then Mistral, they picked up more wayward kids in their various stops, ending up with enough members to form two teams by the time they got to Haven. Thus, RBCT and HBNR were formed.

At the Academy, Queen Victoria planned to entrust the two groups to Professor Lionheart whom could provide them with proper training, instead of the limited second-hand knowledge the members of their team had. Sadly, they arrive only to find the academy empty...

Team RPTD: Introduced in Volume 4. Your run-of-the-mill Sky Pirate Crew, they travel all of Remnant, terrorizing kingdoms and villages along the way. Led by “Jolly Roger”, the group unknowingly aided in the fall of Beacon, working with Roman Torchwick to intercept and acquire Atlasian weaponry as it traveled to Vale for the festival. Deciding to bail once finding out what they helped accomplish, the group quickly left the kingdom, making a few stops along the way...

Volume 4: After Vale’s fiasco, the Riptide Crew flees to one of their hideouts north to Vale. There, they raid a nearby village for supplies, which Queen Victoria happens to visit while searching for missions. The rookie Huntsmen succeed in taking back the stolen crops and Dust, and transport the loot to its rightful owners in a spare air-ship the pirates had in their hideout.

What Queen Victoria would later find out, is that that specific ship stored Atlasian weaponry Riptide had saved from the attack, and already sold to very powerful people. Not wanting to lose the deal, The Riptide Crew started a manhunt on Queen Victoria, following them all the way to Mistral.

Douglas Luiz da Silva Barros | “Ocean”

Background:

In his youth, Douglas got into a motorcycle accident with his little brother. He came out reasonably unharmed, but his little brother lost his right leg. 

The boy’s dream had always been to grow and become a Huntsman, but losing a limb seemed to make it impossible for him. Plagued by guilt, Douglas did his best to help his little brother, but the emotional toll on the boy was to great.

A prosthetic limb was an option, but one that would make it possible for his brother to pursue his dream, added to the cost of the surgery and other expenses, was out of their family’s budget.

In his search for money, Douglas became involved with an unsavory bunch, resorting to crime to “fix” the mistake he made.

During one of his illegal efforts, his group got caught, but Douglas alone managed to escape. Now wanted, he gave his parents all the money necessary for his brother’s procedures and disappeared.

He soon became partners with a man named Thistle Laguna, after the later rescued him after a deal gone sour with a local Haven Mob. The two joined the Riptide Crew to disappear from Vale for a while, until the dust settled.

Weapon:   “Kraken”

Kraken is a hybrid weapon in relation to both combat and environment, working on both land and water, and transforming between a Sniper Rifle for ranged combat and a Trident.for close. The weapon is also able to shoot fast-spreading ink that creates a blanked of smoke and blind foes.

Semblance: “Camouflage”

Manipulating how light reflects off off his Aura, Douglas can bland in with the background becoming nearly invisible to the naked eye. 

Staying completely hidden limits his mobility and drains Aura constantly. While invisible, he cannot be detected by smell, sound or temperature, but certain specific means, like echolocation, as he remains material while cloaked.

Class: “Assassin”

Douglas works from the shadows, using his semblance to remain undetectable and take out targets before they have a chance to react. He specializes in fighting in unconventional environments, such as underwater, and carries equipment to operate on such(Goggles with multiple types of vision and oxygen filtring, Air Dust Footwear, Amphibian weapons).

Trivia:

“Douglas” means dark water.

Team RPTD’s theme song is “I Want Love” by Akira Yamaoka.

Team RPTD’s character inspirations com from the song’s Lyrics. They are “Cup”, “Barrel”, “River” and “Ocean”.

Douglas is the older brother of Ramon Antonio da Silva Barros, from Team RBCT.

He is a fan of motorcycles.

Despite his affinity with the ocean, he hates fish.

He is RPTD’s second-in-command.

Perry Winkle | “Barrel”

Background:

Perry met Roger Jollyman in the beginning of his pirate career, when he was still 16. Roger’s ship had been suffering with mechanical issues for a while before it finally gave out near Perry’s village. Arriving at the village, Roger learned that their only engineer died in a Grimm attack months prior, but his son was still alive.

Not having no one else to turn to for miles, Roger visited Perry’s home, or what was left of it. There, he found the teen living alone, surrounded by scraps. The villagers had tried to reach out for the kid, but after the invasion, Perry barely left his home, surviving off small repair jobs he did for them.

Not wanting to get tangled in the boy’s plight, roger paid upfront and avoided Perry for the duration of the maintenance. He, however, watched the boy from afar to make sure he didn’t steal any of his cargo or his ship’s parts.

And as he watched, he became exponentially more impressed with the boy’s work. Perry wasn’t specially clever, but he knew about technology more than Roger could ever hope to.

Considering the boy a valuable asset, Roger offered Perry a job as the ship’s mechanic, which Perry reluctantly accepted, since it meant leaving his village, and technically, his father behind.

Weapon:  “DDD” (Doomsday Device)

“DDD“ was born of several of Perry’s dangerous ideas combined in a quimera of destruction. It combines a grenade launcher and dispenser, a gattling-gun and a bomb, all packed in a neat little barrel-shape.

In its Passive mode, DDD serves as a simple container for Perry’s hand grenades. In its active mode, it can fire both gattling-gun and grenade launcher simultaneously. And in its final form, Overload, DDD can be planted in a location and set to detonate in an amount of time. The explosion’s size depends on how many grenades are still in the weapon by the time it is planted.

Semblance: “Destabilize”

Perry is capable of make his Aura unstable, creating small explosive orbs with his hands. He mixes his semblance with his grenades, controlling their explosions timing and increasing their potency.

He is also able to Destabilize his entire Aura, making it explode after several seconds. This application of his semblance costs him half of his current aura and the explosion’s size and potency increases the more aura was sacrificed for it.

Class: “Cannoneer”

Perry fights mainly with explosives, from mid to long range. his weapon is equipped with several types of explosives(average grenades, stun grenades, smoke grenades, incendiary...) and in a pinch he can explode it, or even himself to take out enemies.

Trivia:

“Periwinkle” is a shade of lavander.

Thistle Laguna | “River”

Background:

Thistle’s life was simple, he was born in a riverside sector in the Kingdom of Vale, and belonged to a family of fishermen. His sector was responsible for most of the the kingdom’s fish supplies and also exported to other kingdoms. They didn’t make tons of Lien, but they did what they liked and lived comfortably.

That until Grimm infested their waters.

No one knew how those Abyssals had gotten there, that species was mostly sea-exclusive, but their presence was devastating to their economy. Fish became increasingly more scarce, and fishermen were lost to the creatures almost daily.

As the situation worsened, so did the Grimm. Attracted to the atmosphere in the sector, more terrestrial Grimm showed up in the region.

The nail in that sector’s coffin occurred when the Grimm attacked their dam. Hunters werent able to act fast enough, and the barrier cracked. The water volume washed everything and everyone in its path.

Thistle was fishing far away enough to survive the flood, but his family and friends weren’t so lucky. He lost everything.

With no family or state to speak of, added to the lack of qualifications besides fishing, Thistle ended up accepting any job offered to him. And hunger spoke louder than morals.

He eventually met with his current partner in crime, Douglas Barros, and simply tagged along when the later decided to join Roger and the Riptide Crew.

Weapon:   “Sweetwater” and “Safe Harbor”

This Harpoon and shield combo puts together Thistle’s fighting style and hobby, doubling as a harpoon+shield and a fishing pole+chair. In its Fishing Pole Mode, Sweetwater can be still be used as a weapon. 

Using a Dust Crystal instead of a hook, Thistle can push his Aura through the line and activate it from a distance. Gravity, his main option, allows Thistle to grab and pull objects despite their weight, using the Dust to attack them to the line and reduce their weight to near nothing.

If an enemy manages to come into melee range, Thistle can convert his fishing pole into a Harpoon for close and mid-range combat, stabbing with and throwing his weapon. The line in the harpoon’s rear allow him to retrieve the weapon after thrown.

Semblance: “Bait”

Thistle can create glowing balls with his Aura, which have limited hypnotic effects. Looking directly into the “Baits” will cause any creature to fall in a trance and attempt to catch the bait.

Baits can only make victims follow them and can be manipulated remotely, and the trance is broken my any kind of Physical pain. They can also be infused with Dust to carry elemental effects. Fire turnes them into small fireballs, Light can make them blinding to even those not looking into them and Ice will cause those who touch the Bait to freeze into place.

Class: “Lancer”

Thistle prefers to avoid direct combat with enemies, chosing to stay at a safe distance to attack with his Fishing Pole. When cornered, he uses his semblance to distract enemies and reposition.

“Thistle” is a type of purple flower.
