Been a while since I showed off any videos. Here's a short realtime teaser of how the particularly dramatic scenes play out throughout the story. There's a lot of theater to it. Camera movement and lighting effects and foley. Feels a bit like organizing a little stage production. Paper puppet theater.

This scene is from a tense moment in the ambush job, where you're coming in being chased after the first part of the job goes sour.

I don't give this kind of treatment to every scene. Often the text is enough. But this one needed something a little more... flamboyant... to get the tension feeling right.

Narrator: You dismount and get yourself settled safe against the wall. Narrator: Then, after takin’ a deep breath to steady yourself, you roar down the draw at your pursuers Boss: End of the line, boys! Boss: Drop yer guns and you’ll ride out of here with yer lives! Narrator: ... Narrator: No response. Narrator: They’re still comin’. Boss: Last warnin’! Stop and drop ’em or— Narrator: ...Well... That ain’t the right response, but it’s the one you’re stuck workin’ with, ain’t it? Narrator: You grin mean and shout out your orders Boss: Light ’em up, girls! No mercy! Narrator: The ridges of the draw flicker and flash with the fire of all your muzzles crackin’. Narrator: Blackpowder smoke fills the windless little gully, and leaves you squintin’ and holdin’ your breath to keep from coughin’. Narrator: Gets to the point you ain’t even aimin’ at men so much as at shadows and memories. Narrator: When a stiff breeze finally comes along and lifts a bit of the smoke away, there are a few horses unmanned, confused and tryin’ to charge right on through. Narrator: You gesture madly at your girls to hug the wall and let ’em pass. Narrator: All the sound and smoke and chaos falls away as one of those horses gallops close by you. Narrator: Saddle, manned. Narrator: Man, armed. Narrator: Shotgun, brushin’ your nose. Narrator: ... Decision: Yell. Narrator: No time— Narrator: ... Narrator: A body tumbles to the ground. Narrator: ...It... It ain’t yours. Narrator: You only heard one shot, but the man’s got four holes in him. Narrator: You ain’t sure what you did to earn it, after lettin’ yourself get in so stupid a position, but your girls saved you.
