When you have the abused victim actually state heās depressed and has night terrors as well as revealing how unsafe he was in the prison environment
They also showed him with bruises on his face then the actual beating he got when he was in prison. He was curled up in a fetal position on the ground and was sobbing. How is that funny?!!!!
The prison episode was meant to be serious for the most part barring a scene or two which I prefer to ignore him completely.
It's very clear that all the Kev stuff was poorly planned from the start. They needed something to fill the time between the gorge and corriedale and it was like someone in the writers room was randomly like, "Oh I know! Prison husband!" but then there were too many cooks in the kitchen about how that would actually appear. So they just threw it all into a blender with sometimes serious stuff sometimes funny stuff and we ended up with what we got.
It's so obvious by how Kev just quickly disappeared right before corriedale that he was a last minute addition to that plot.
Just boggles my mind why they didn't use that time to build Robron's relationship up again organically. And they didn't need a third party. They had plenty to work with with both Aaron's trauma from John and Robert's trauma from prison to keep it an entertaining and beautiful story. And why they decided not to do that will always make no sense to me.
Laura just had a boner for Chris. Just like she obviously does for the guy who plays Graham too. That's the only explanation I can think of honestly - she just loves pandering to the old white dudes.
For me, the entire K plot is no different to what they did in hell year⦠the yuckfest that was Robert and Larry⦠filler⦠since they had to bide their time for what was coming next. Even the brief Sebastian plot was filler to give the lads airtime and a little bit of rare THEM time before Corriedale aired. And thatās the main problem⦠you had a fixed episode that would air on a specific date that was in the making for ages. So you had to fill those gaps somehow and unfortunately those gaps left gaping holes⦠Aaronās trauma with J was never really addressed, officially diagnosing Robert with ptsd and getting him treatment as well as addressed Kās control over Robert during the brief breakup was completely ignored in the end. When itās time to address those issues more closely, they for whatever reason get dropped. It comes off more like the show tires of a plot and just closes them sloppily without respectable resolution.
As for Ms. Powerpoint, she clearly has her favorites and sheās pushing them forward. And itās not really a new practice but here itās very blatantly done.
Genuine Question like could they not have written it as a comedy from the start ? Who was stopping them? I donāt understand how making light of abuse was the first thing that came to their head like how tasteless and talentless do you have to be to think a prison abused and traumatised man called a prostitute by his kid sister was a joke ?????????????????????????????????????????
Hmm, for whatever reason this didnāt post so, take two. I donāt understand the minds of either the producers or the storyliners if they consider trauma and abuse not a serious enough topic but to downplay as they moved forward with it. When you have the abused victim actually state heās depressed and has night terrors as well as revealing how unsafe he was in the prison environment then move on to have his so-called brother use it against him physically⦠and never actually address it properly later (he wound him up⦠really?!?), we shouldāve known, we were headed in the wrong direction then when K was gonna be introduced. To not understand it was life or death daily in there then grasp onto the irrelevant angle⦠money⦠which was clearly a front⦠just no words.
And then people act shocked that there assholes online who see abuse and violence and turn it into a joke š¤¦š»āāļø this is how you create incel entitled people. This is why you have people think what happened to Charity is ānot that badā because the show keeps showing bad things and rolling it as ānot that badā or turning it into a joke. They have a responsibility to educate people but no click baits and disgusting shock plots are what they are doing.
And this is why I am avoiding social media more and more because of these caustic and unsympathetic viewpoints. These are serious issues that should be taken seriously and not mocked/made light of whether you like or dislike the character. Itās no different with some belittling Mackenzie and ignoring the trauma he suffered at the hands of J because they hate the character and canāt see past that. And the educating part of it gets lost in it all especially when you donāt keep focus on the issue at hand but throw in twist after twist for the shock value of it all. They seem to fear staying the course wouldnāt be enough to keep you engaged but it usually is.
Sorry I have been spamming your askbox all day it must be draining to you but I appreciate your solidarity and thoughts it helps.Thank you šš» Sending you love and positive energy šŖš»šŖš»šŖš»šŖš» š„°
Itās the evening so trying to address as many asks as possible before itās time for sleep. And thank you for actually reading my babble š.
I donāt have Twitter, so I donāt really know the full context of what was being said, but she said that it was a joke from the start then either the actors did not get the memo or the writers because neither the acting, nor the writing was close to being funny. Sorry like what exactly, supposed to be funny, he stab himself to keep Robert in prison then he attacked him in his home with the sword and then didnāt call help, then brought a hunting gun??? like Robert saying āI am scared of him of how he will reactā some gag line Hhahahaha what a funny man he is make me sleepless because I am scared??? What the fuck is this insanity?
I āthinkā the funny bit might have been Robert having two āhubbiesā and running ragged to keep them apart which really wasnāt amusing one bit. It only put a strain on Robertās mental health which is always a low point for the show to address. After that, all I saw was K lying and trying to manipulate Robert to be with him and bringing up the scar/owing him. When all that failed, he became a tiny bit dangerous going after Aaron with his confrontations in the flat (which werenāt scary since he wasnāt the big bad in prison) and trying to rid him. Sure, thatās funny, trying to murder Robertās soulmate and heāll come back to him š. To each his own what one considers funny.
Journo Chloe replied to someone on twitter that Kev story was always a joke from the start??? Wtf ?
If this is official and not her opinion (I believe sheās a Robron fan and has expressed her displeasure about certain things in the past) then, Ryan did not get the memo. He played it straight and his performance of a man fresh out of prison suffering from depression, night terrors and PTSD was heartbreaking at times. How does no one take him aside and go, āoh btw your trauma is for laughs so try to add some hahas in thereā. I think it only became a comedy when Kev arrived and he made everything unserious.
Those first couple of months, Ryan played it perfectly with all the nuances of a man trying to readjust in a village that basically didnāt want him there while suffering the traumas of prison and being unable to talk about much of if. From what I gather, Ryan wasnāt aware of anything related to K (specifically him being his prison hubby) until he was. I also believe what he was hyped about at the time was scrapped for the K plot. His original interviews implied other things would be happening (but didnāt). The writing just seemed to fall backwards when they introduced K the way they did and making it less serious than it should ever have been.
I feel bad for the person who asked, because Twitter is not a place to be a Robron fan in peace you will always be called toxic for something or another š¤¦but I am glad at least someone is calling it what it is and reminding people that it is a serious issue that they are joking about and no a fucking funny one. Like honestly it is a soap what do you expect but all of us are only asking that they make him say what he did is wrong and move on with the story. No he insisted until the end that he will āget his own backā and just continued the terrorising what fucking world is that a joke? Give us peace and call it what it is and have your cake and lovely comdey warm arc all you want. Shame on them !
You know the most raging aspect of it all is when we called it out for what it is they told us we are being toxic wait for the writers to develop it. You Robron fans are always complaining. But it was a joke from the start!! What a sick disgusting approach to a serious matter! it was a joke all along.
Social media in general has become very toxic especially on Twitter. Instead of muting tags or accounts, you have those that have to have their say when we are in fact making legitimate claims about the show and the lads. I get you might not like them but stay in your own lanes. And itās the same ones that complain about us that turn around and do the same when it happens to the characters THEY like.
When this plot was first introduced, itās not surprising it was not well received first with the out of nowhere prison hubby and then how the plot played out, not as the serious one inferring Robert was a lackey from an earlier mention in the show (if we had to go there at all) but as stuck between two men he didnāt want to meet. All the careful buildup of trauma of months before to that? Of course weād want our voices heard.
Thereās nothing light to counteract the darkness
Quite frankly, Iām getting mixed signals about this. Heās a ābig badā but itās a funnier arc this time. Thereās a kidnapping, web of lies, Vinny will be triggered by his violent nature, a ālife or deathā situation for Lewisā¦ā¦. I watch dark comedies all the time. In principle, I donāt have a problem with mixing comedy with an otherwise serious story or scenario. I just donāt think it worked with this character in the last story he was involved in. The biggest flaw is they want to disregard the bad things heās done and pretend heās just some complex and quirky guy.
And that there is the problem. They are washing away the seriousness of what he did to the lads and Liam as well as the armed robbery as āinsufficient evidenceā when in fact there is more than enough evidence to lock him up once more but sure, letās have the funny bloke ābondā with the son who doesnāt know heās his psycho daddy (yet, we are STILL waiting for any kind of contact between the lads and Sebastian whoās barely, if ever, mentioned). Those first couple of scenes with him shouldāve have continued as his main persona⦠anger that was hair-triggered, physically violent (that shouldāve been shown on screen to reinforce) and having little respect for Robert (calling him āsheā, manipulating him with lies, etc). Bringing in the extra levels of so-called humor in what shouldāve been a serious story based on trauma AND allowing the actor too much leeway in molding him just doesnāt cut it. He is still tied to a horrible time in Robertās life and he still manipulated him into staying in prison longer than he should have. Itās hard to get past all of that and see a so-called funny guy as his main persona when the rest will more than likely be ignored. How a kidnapping and triggering Vinny falls under funny is beyond my understanding š¤·āāļø.
Journo Chloe replied to someone on twitter that Kev story was always a joke from the start??? Wtf ?
so like the self-stab was a joke and the sword and the rifle and the hostage situation joke ? Am I dumb as fuck who is not getting the joke here or is the show really disgusting? What kind of gaslighting is this ?
I saw that response and itās on the show for taking something dark and making light of Robertās time in prison (they did the same when he had been roofied). And even Vicās response to Robert wanting protection in there from the constant bullying and beatings was him prostituting himself which again was very crass writing.
At the time, they also had the slavery plot or some aspect of it going so another heavy plot (they are doing that now)? So Robertās next story, instead of the heavily anticipated ptsd one, was what we got. They could have easily shifted anything to do with prison for later or have it brought up in therapy and anyone actually from prison show up in the village a year or two later to regress progress heād be making. But to make light of it with Robert juggling two āhusbandsā that only Vic knew of⦠it was the wrong call especially with what we saw early on with the nightmares (one based on being touched), depression, J being able to manipulate Robert the way he did and so on. That is not something to make light of, itās legitimate trauma that shouldāve been handled with proper respect. But this Robert, so what else is new šš. No friends, no therapy or no understanding from others unless youāre Aaron and Vic (and not always from her even).
At least on my dash, when the Sadie return leaked, most were so intrigued or excited by the news. But when we found out Jimmy was being killed off and she will be involved, that quickly went away. The only thing Iāve seen people getting hyped about lately and Emmerdale found a way to immediately ruin it. There are no new stories to tease because this Cain and Charity dramas are never ending. They have Robron, a couple who actually generate buzz and theyāre nonexistent. Their returning āfan favoriteā is a buffoon and will be paired up with a barely there character. What are we doing?
Things can sour very quickly when it comes to this show. They did it with the news of J being cast as an unknown Sugden brother. The first articles were thrilling to read but when the real story was released hours later (that he was gay and Aaronās very obvious new love interest), all the excitement dropped dramatically and it was worse than expected (with the horrid remakes of the lad scenes). The same goes for Sadie. It was welcomed by most but as soon as it was tied to the upcoming UNNECESSARY killing of the one the last living Kings (thereās still Scarlett, please have the IIC forget she exists for her own safety š), once again the initial excitement has waned. Why sacrifice a longstanding character for what will more than likely be a short-term gimmick return?
And whatās been teased as coming up is once again centered on the unusual suspects/characters rather than spreading the wealth around with their cast. Cain and Charity are misery plots that will dominate the show as well as the powerpoint butler/Tates. Thereās nothing light to counteract the darkness (and I do not include that character that is turning up next week with zero remorse for what heās done in his life or to who heās done it to⦠you cannot rewrite the facts that were shown on screen and expect most of us to embrace him as decent and worthy of redemption without putting any effort into it).
I get it. ITV has had to make major cuts overall but with that the overall quality shouldnāt have dropped as much as it has. Basing the on-screen changes on external feedback rather than concentrating on the roots of the show and building off of that has failed. What also has failed is taking an umbrella story and integrating so many twists to it that the original concept has been gutted to something unrecognizable and unpalatable. Using the same characters day in day out, weeks and months on end also has been a poor decision. Rewriting plots that literally occurred recently is a major faux pas meaning the storyliners have limited imagination to outline the plots properly. The lads are the showās best assets with a big fanbase but they have been curtailed to supporting other plots (or used as springboards for them and disappearing afterwards). Ryan mentioned a while back that he was excited about what was coming this year but that was before all of these changes took place. I do wonder if what he had been excited about was postponed or totally scrapped at this point.
Something needs to change not only for ED but for Corrie from what Iām hearing. TIIC are forgetting what soaps are all about and that will not bring new viewers in (and live ratings will not increase much since there is the ITVx/YT early releases). Going back to basics will and that means looking back at their past and using it properly not twisting it into something it is not. Itās gonna be a hard lesson to swallow (pfft, if they even get there) if they expect positive word of mouth and awards for that matter.
