Windows finally lets go of Control Panel
Microsoft is continuing its long transition away from the classic Control Panel in Windows, gradually shifting more system settings into the newer Settings app. The company says this is part of an effort to modernize the experience and make options easier to find and use.
While Control Panel isn’t disappearing overnight, more features that once lived there are being redirected or rebuilt inside Settings. Over time, this means users will rely less on the older interface, even if it still exists in the background for now.
This change has been in motion for years, with Windows 10 and 11 steadily moving pieces over. The latest updates make it clearer that Control Panel’s role is shrinking, even if some advanced tools haven’t fully made the jump yet.
