16. What’s a theatre related inside joke you have?
I have so many. Like so many.
But here is one of my favorites: My ASM and I always had this joke one day we would throw down. So every time we’d get sassy with each other we’d just yell at each other, “Meet me in the pit! The orchestra pit!” as loudly as we could. Sometimes we’d chest bump to be extra dramatic or add a time like “5 o’ clock”. The actors thought it was funny. Especially during tech week.
Still to this day we will say that to each other when we see each other.
I beg of you all not to steal this, it is such a special memory and joke to her and I now <3
17. Favourite theatre ghost you have worked with?
Last theatre I worked shows at, our theatre had a ghost named Bobbi.
Bobbi was a gender neutral name because we didn’t want to assume the ghost’s gender (true story).
I had good experiences with Bobbi, minus the catwalk incident.
This is going to sound weird but I was working a show that everything was going wrong. One night I was in the booth alone before a show dreading the show and with my voice cracking I looked up to the ceiling (the end of the catwalk where Bobbi lived was above me) and simply said “Bobbi, please, save me. You know I love this theatre as much as you do.” I don’t talk to ghosts, that is not something I do. But I was desperate. Anyway, the show ran perfectly that night. In typical SM fashion I was the last one to leave that night and I went to set out the ghost light (the last thing on my list every night). I flipped on the light and looked out into the house and just whispered “thank you Bobbi, perform your heart out tonight” and I kid you not right as I finished those words the ghost light flickered.
Bobbi and I have been tight ever since.
18. Least Favourite theatre ghost you have worked with?
This one didn’t have a name but it was a very old community theatre I was SMing in. The ghost would make loud noises when I was alone in the theatre late at night. Lights would shut off. Doors would open by themselves. The prop cabinet on wheels once rolled by itself across the greenroom. It was sketchy. I got the creeps every time I was in the booth. Maybe it was a ghost or the building just being old. Never worked a show there again that was one of the reasons.
