I'm chatting about this with a buddy, and I'm unsure of what you would call this narrative concept. It's not quite 'breaking the fourth wall', but I feel like it's something in this family. Is there a name for this? That's the point of this post. But pokemon in particular, the world has this veneer of fun, adventure, and happy-go-luckiness, simply because we play as a kid. I would be highly interested in a protagonist being an older teen [ like in XD on gamecube ] just to see what they're willing to discuss, or how it changes how you interact. Though from a marketable product standpoint, I understand why they keep the main characters very young. Legend of Zelda, for example, Link is allowed to be an older teen to an adult man, and he's addressed appropriately by other characters because of it. The game can go into darker themes, or even have some suggestive moments, without pushing the envelope too much.
I think Larry, AZ, and Lysandre are good examples of characters that more blatantly reveal they exist on the layer of the world or awareness the player isn't allowed to have access to because the protagonist is a child. AZ tries to protect you a little, by speaking in a specific way about his troubles, or omitting things all together. Larry, disillusions you if only slightly, because of how direct he is about being a working adult. Lysandre confesses that he's in agony, because he can't die, or even laments on the greed and destruction he encountered through wealth and attempting philanthropy. Jauq lies to you in his class, telling you he has no idea where pokemon eggs come from. He knows where they come from.
What is this called...?
I just need a name for it.
Villain Butterfly Izuku, who I drew up half a year ago but only started posting his story. His name and design are based on a Glasswing butterfly, and as such his wings are transparent.
[Edit:] Bonus! Got the designs for Odyssey and Revenant done!
I’m redesigning my old suit redesign for Tommy (bc I’ve had the old one for a while, but also because it was designed to coordinate with Wanda and Billy’s costumes…….. both of which have been changed at this point whoops) so here’s a progress photo! I’m sure details will change, but that’s the general idea I’m going with lmao
